- So Floor Jansen has been participating in the Dutch program Beste zangers 2019.
This is a show from the Netherlands where singers sing songs from the other contestants.
Now as a native I can thankfully understand all the dutch parts including the beauty of mama that had me tearing up. I would advice everybody to look up a English translation to that!

There has not been a single day that I have not listened to Floor sing since I discovered her. And I doubt there will be a day I won't until I take my last breath. Just an amazing singer and performer 😍
I've never been a fan of technology, but I have to admit that thanks to RUclips the entire world can now hear and see a live Legend perform, instead of only hearing about it in Mythical books. All the other singers who are well known and pretty great themselves are in awe of Floor.
I don't see enough comments about the band and the back-up singers, though. They are all world-class. I mean, they have to be able to adapt to any genre in order to back-up the very different singers who perform on this show, and they do that astonishingly well. They would be first-rate and in-demand studio musicians if they worked in LA.
"Mama" really got me too. It gets me every time I listen to it, even I only understand the word "mama". This song is so full of strong emotions by the melody and by Floor that my face is all wet already during the first chorus. Make me remember my own mother who I miss so much.
Yes, I am also very impressed by her linguistic skills. I have heard her singing in English of course and along in her native language Dutch but also in German, Spanish, Italian and Finnish. I am a Finn and I became totally dizzy when I heard her singing a song in almost perfect Finnish some years ago in Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) tour here in Finland.
I think after this TV-show everyone in the Netherlands knows who Floor Jansen really is! Although I hope so.
This song "mama" made it to the iTunes number 1 spot in less than 48 hours in The Netherlands though poppy songs are mostly there to find. Singing perfect is the path, seeping into to your emotions is the only rightful goal.
Yes, this show is where I first heard Floor, and as I wanted to learn more about her I then also discovered Nightwish. It has elevated my musical experiences.
Emma Heesters did cover of Floor's song Strong. Its super emotional. Its about her mother having uncurable illness (reuma) and her trying to appear strong and not showing the pain for her sake. Floor started crying just by telling the back story of the song. Emma sung it for her because she could also relate to it. Her mother had cancer when she was a child. Its pretty amazing song and amazing cover.

Emma is the contestant that I TOTALLY underestimated.
I understand. Ever since I discovered Floor I've been on an emotional roller coaster ride.
First sorry for your loss and man that was brave of you to do the song especially in your native tongue, but I am glad the Salsa song followed that to change the mood!! This was 3 weeks in a row and in 3 different languages and 3 different genres that she has blown out the TVs in the Netherlands. They didn't know who she was before this show but they know now. She was on the honor couch this week and they sang to her but there are 3 more singers to go and a finale where her and Hank (the Opera singer) are to do Phantom of the Opera as a duet!! That was an amazing reaction and to do all 3 was really an accomplishment, feel better and get well as you have 4 more songs for Floor to amaze you on Dutch TV!!

Lets see how she compares to Tarja if she is doing Phantom of the Opera next... Tarja's version of that song in End of an Era show is perfection

Tarja's was great and I am sure Floor will be great too, not as good as Tarja but she had less training for the operatic genre than Tarja so it would be expected. As to perfection I am sure the Sarah Brightman/Crawford fans (ruclips.net/video/O5z_l6NE3qs/видео.html) and other soprano singer fans would argue that point, but that isn't fair to Tarja either and is a waste of time when you could be enjoying the various versions of a great song.
I've watched all of these shows with English sub titles. So far Floor is simply the most impressive performer there.
She kicked off the series with Vilja lied and blew their minds.
Some of these songs are now on the record charts for sales now.
I cant imagine what i would do if i lost my mother, and im 56 years old, my heart goes out to you and to every one who has to face life without their mother.

Floor Jansen had an emotional song too about her mother 'Strong', and also with Nightwish have a song tributed to parents 'Our Decades in The Sun' wich is for me it's emotional as well. The good news is both beautiful and emotional songs are performed in latest episode. Emma with 'Strong' and Samantha with 'Ik ben altijd dicht bij jou' (in Dutch version).
Yes, those were awesome, as was the best cover of "sound of silence" ever sung so far as well 🙂. Looks like folks in Netherlands loved this "unknown" singer's (Floor's) version of "Mama" too. The whole episodes are on YT too, worth checking out to get the stories and comments from the participants 🤗... texts also available in English, just put them on 🙂

The last song was a number hit in South America. I think if she records this version, it might hit the top 10 again, it was soo awesome.

Thanks for doing the 3 songs at the same time. You’ve already seen a few comments about this past week, where people did songs for Floor. She loved it and appreciated it. The other singers did well. Floor is amazing and versatile. I’ve heard Nightwish in concert here in the states and Floor and the band are brilliant and put on a great show.
Spanish is my native language and it's wonderful to hear Floor sing in Spanish!!!

Whenever I see Floor in this show I end up wondering what it must be like to be a talented singer and then hear Floor give you a masterclass in how to sing your own song!! (And I suspect singing it better than the original in some (most?) cases!
Floor's mother wept listening to her singing "Mama". It's such a beautiful song. I cherish the memory of my own as I listen to it each time, making sure I have tissues. Rolf Sanchez's original version of "Qué Se Siente" is so very different from Floor's he was really surprised and delighted by it.

Beautiful and brave reaction Jenn. Crying is a good thing especially missing the moment with your mom. Not being able to have a discussion is the greatest miss I feel. She did an amazing job singing in such emotional way. Everybody felt it.
Floor is awesome - and I must add that the emotion on your face looks beautiful, even if it is a sad emotion. Please don't avoid songs for that reason :)
I love Beste Zangers because it re-introduced me to Henk Poort, whom I'd previously seen (many years ago) as Jean Valjean in the Dutch production of Les Miserables.
I originally watched Beste Zangers for Floor, but I keep coming back to it for Henk.
I love how at 14:30 she couldn't quite hide her true metal awesomeness any more, mixing in quite a bit of grit and fry into her voice. I hope she's allowed by the producers to do a song where she really gets to show off all her skills and not "only" the belting.
Her singing style/genre has nothing to do with what the producers 'allow' but in this show the singing is meant to honor/pay tribute to the other singers, so usually the style is tailored to the singer that is the subject of that evening. So Floor does not sing a 'metal' song for herself ...

Each time the other singers are impressed BUT I do not think her goal is to impress them, hence why you didn't see all her skills in the show yet. And we probably won't. Song are shorts, etc. Loved your reaction! Very genuine.

I, too, lost my mother when I was young (just a teenager, almost 30 years ago now), and while that pain never truly goes away entirely, I can at least reassure you that it does get easier to bear over time. Get well soon, and I hope the pain of your loss soon fades into happy memories of the time you did have.

I kind of wish she had ripped out the hair band during the guitar solo to do some windmilling as a big surprise. LOL
I swear I'm telling the truth , I am very fond of this program I watched every episode from the beginning that it was broadcast. I never heard of floor jansen but i do know a couple of the singers that are sitting on the couch. but Floor really mesmerized Me by singing this song of Samantha steenwijk which is the original according singer of this song and I never heard the original song either , but when I hear floor singing this song I was immediately Blown Away , tears were falling down my cheeks when she screamed out loud for Mama. I never heard of her and i understoud every word bycause I'm Dutch to. now the internet is exploding , because of her version singing this song mama. WOOW , unbelievable artist is what she is and , now i have to listen to ALL HER OTHER SONGS because of her incredibly beautiful voice. :-) and i'm starting to like the metal music to. this song goes viral now and believe me , NOW the dutch people know , and never will forget the name " Floor Jansen " . my number 1 winner as best singer 2019 for sure.

Yes it is Spanish. And yes it is that guy's song (Rolf Sanchez), one of his biggest number one hits I am told. Must be scary to sing someone else's number one hit back to them, but Floor, as always, knocks it out of the park! He seems favorably impressed. So, Jenn, as a native Nederlander, maybe you can tell us why the five greatest vocalists on the entire planet (Floor Jansen, Simone Simons, Sharon den Adel, Anneke van Giersbergen, and Charlotte Wessels) are all Dutch? Villa Lied was the first performance of the 2019 season and she just blew them all away. They didn't expect a metal singer to sing like that. Henk Poort was the one the show was about that night and his Mother sang that song to him at bedtime.

Que Se Siente was a Number 1 song here in the states and Latin America, and it was a Salsa song and Floor turned into a Rock song.

Seriously, even the name "Vilja" is a totally unknown name . I think noone is named that way today.
For me as a German the Vilja lied was only slightly easier to understand than the "Mama" song in Dutch. Especially as the song was super close too everyday German.

there is a vlog up on youtube that cover a small part from the week in ibiza where Floor is wearing that dress out and about. ( only in glimps ) its the blond singer Samantas Vlog starts of at one of her shows than out and about than the flight to Ibiza than the out and about part and than the flight back home.

I think in the first one when she was dressed like a metal singer she surprised the hell out of the others by the way she sang. They did not know what to expect.
That's what's so nice about this show. Although alterations to the songs are allowed, they're trying to do the songs as much justice as poosible. But nevertheless they have to step out of their comfort zone one way or another to make the songs work. And Floor managed to do so every time. And is not just good, no, she hits the ball out of the park every single time. Last week Floor was the guest of honor, and there are still two more shows to come. Can't wait for those.

I just wanted to hug you during mama. I lost my little brother when I was 18 and some songs still break me when I hear them. A few years ago I was at an Alter Bridge concert and they started playing "you will be remembered". It's not even a song I relate to him, but I cried all the way through that song. It's weird what music can do to us.
If you're looking for more Floor to react to, I can highly recommend "the poet and the pendulum" and "the greatest show on Earth" by Nightwish. They're both epic songs
On a side note. I don't know if you watch Beste Zangers or just checked Floor, but Henk Poort with "sound of silence" was really impressive last Saturday as well

@@JennThePandaa Definitely. I discovered Nightwish and Floor only last week and I've been on a musical high ever since. It's crazy to hear her sing and the band play. It tugs on my heartstrings everytime. Can't believe I haven't heard of them before, because they are everything I love about music.

That's the way to go & react to them all in just one video. Last Saturday, Sept. 13th, it was Floor's turn to be amazed by the other singers performing songs that are sung by her or otherwise meaningful to her. All the other participant singers did a really good job, but two of them made a bigger impression on Floor. You just have to react to both of them:
1. Samantha Steenwijk - Ik ben altijd dicht bij jou | Beste Zangers 2019 ruclips.net/video/6kxocWr0YHI/видео.html singing Nightwish's beautiful ballad "Our Decades in the Sun" with Dutch lyrics
2. Henk Poort - Sound of Silence | Beste Zangers 2019 ruclips.net/video/q_BJaM-UrXc/видео.html, a way better live performance than that of Disturbed's David Draiman's heavily autotuned one.

Totally agreed with your recommendations, but as a matter of fact it was Emma Heester's rendition of Strong that moved Floor the most as she stated herself at the end of the show.
I think Samantha should have done it as written.
I can't agree with you that Henk's was better than Disturbed. Both excellent versions. If you're referring to the performance I tbink you are, David was unaware he'd be autotuned, and was angry about it when he watched back.

Esta mina no habla castellano, para nada y no canta en castellano tampoco. Apenas nos dijo gracias en Buenos Aires el año pasado. Así que se la aprendió para cantarsela a Rolf Sanchez que es medio holandés y medio dominicano. Por eso tiene un gran mérito.
