Such’a testament to how music can evoke a sense of place, mood or energy. Without uttering a word, the theme “feels” like exciting things are happening “somewhere” - the very essence of reporting the news. Indeed, while it was used for an evening broadcast, to my ear the speed of the chorus and the power of the orchestra suggest a new morning, full of potential. A truly beautiful theme.
The worst mistake CBS News ever made was getting rid of Scott Pelley. He was a journalist everybody could trust. He's a journalist that politicians can praise. I miss the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley. No covid, No Trump, No agendas being pushed. Just straightforward and honest reporting.
Hey, the same goes with all past anchors too. Douglass Edwards, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather and Bob Schieffer also had that same rhythm the _CBS Evening News_ had promised. Another word to express it was: *Experience.*
I beyond love this! It rivals NBC"s "The Mission" by John Williams and the Meet the Press theme. Why in the world would CBS Remove this theme. This news theme would have been great with the greatest anchor of all time Walter Cronkite!!!
God this is so so lovely. I just think it has so much gravitas to it. The layering is just so majestic. There are only hints of some of it now left in the current theme.

One more comment on this theme, I promise! The Dan Rather theme is very good. The Katie Couric theme is very underrated, fits her and is good. But this theme is the only one in my opinion that would fit CRONKITE!!! It's hard news, power, serious, with class. It has everything. It meets John Williams 'the mission" at NBC and the classic ABC News theme. I would bring this form of it back, it's that good.

This was taken from the New Year's Day 2019 episode of the CBS Evening News. (The version broadcast on TV featured Mariah Carey's Auld Lang Syne in the ending, while the Facebook version featured this theme instead.) I really want to hear the Norah O'Donnell theme played on New Year's Day 2021 instead of repeating the Auld Lang Syne song.
What a waste of time and man power. It started with the Katie Couric theme and then everything else. The original CBS Evening News theme is the "Dan Rather" Trivers/Myers theme. I will write about that someday soon. So now we have this melodic composition return to CBS when it should have never left. It's 2022 and the Trivers/Myers theme returns again! Although this time, the theme as adapted by the wonderful sound designers at antfood NYC.
@@2listening1 I've seen that video, but there's a difference between the headlines theme and the main theme. The opening theme is part of the latter, and the headlines theme is *sometimes* part of the main theme, but usually they're different. So yes, but no.
Susan Zirinsky, you should order the news division to bring this back and use all variations on CBS newscasts. Except Face the Nation which has a very good theme. Forgive me for loving this! 3:05 closing piece is just classic.

Although ABC World News Tonight left the Classic ABC News theme, David Muir brought it back where it belongs! This is the best CBS Evening News theme of all time. Cronkite would have loved it! BRING IT BACK!
