17 U.S. Code § 107 - Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.
In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include-
(1)the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

Such’a testament to how music can evoke a sense of place, mood or energy. Without uttering a word, the theme “feels” like exciting things are happening “somewhere” - the very essence of reporting the news. Indeed, while it was used for an evening broadcast, to my ear the speed of the chorus and the power of the orchestra suggest a new morning, full of potential. A truly beautiful theme.
The worst mistake CBS News ever made was getting rid of Scott Pelley. He was a journalist everybody could trust. He's a journalist that politicians can praise. I miss the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley. No covid, No Trump, No agendas being pushed. Just straightforward and honest reporting.
I watched Scott every night, now I haven’t watched any CBS News broadcast in years. He was amazing!
Hey, the same goes with all past anchors too. Douglass Edwards, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather and Bob Schieffer also had that same rhythm the _CBS Evening News_ had promised. Another word to express it was: *Experience.*
Nothing is being pushed with Norah, quit your BS.

My favorite sign off quotes “that’s the way it is”,”from all of us at cbs news all around the world good night” & “I’ll see you soon good night” I really miss Walter,Scott and Jeff they were my favorite journalists they did great wonders for the evening news

I beyond love this! It rivals NBC"s "The Mission" by John Williams and the Meet the Press theme. Why in the world would CBS Remove this theme. This news theme would have been great with the greatest anchor of all time Walter Cronkite!!!
The new theme has elements of this. But I can't find the full theme online yet.
God this is so so lovely. I just think it has so much gravitas to it. The layering is just so majestic. There are only hints of some of it now left in the current theme.

Edit: It's a faster version of the 2016 theme, which is great, because this theme lives on!

One more comment on this theme, I promise! The Dan Rather theme is very good. The Katie Couric theme is very underrated, fits her and is good. But this theme is the only one in my opinion that would fit CRONKITE!!! It's hard news, power, serious, with class. It has everything. It meets John Williams 'the mission" at NBC and the classic ABC News theme. I would bring this form of it back, it's that good.
This was the best evening news theme of all. CBS erroneously modifed it to its detriment!
Do wish that the CBS Evening News would bring back the older theme song?
This theme was used from 2016 to 2022 if you combine this theme with the updated version of this theme

@@gabsnewsThank you for the wonderful music of CBS News. They were the last of the big 3 networks to have network news music. It was up to network news brass, not the anchors, that finally permitted CBS News to use news theme music beginning in 1987 and they have more than made up for it since.

The Anchor should NEVER change a GREAT news theme! When Tom Brokaw retired, Brian Williams kept "The Mission" as has Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News. Although ABC World News Tonight left the Classic ABC News theme, David Muir brought it back where it belongs! This is the best CBS Evening News theme of all time. Cronkite would have loved it! BRING IT BACK!

The Pelley/Glor theme
This was taken from the New Year's Day 2019 episode of the CBS Evening News.
(The version broadcast on TV featured Mariah Carey's Auld Lang Syne in the ending, while the Facebook version featured this theme instead.)
I really want to hear the Norah O'Donnell theme played on New Year's Day 2021 instead of repeating the Auld Lang Syne song.

Really? I didn't hear a theme there during the credits.
What a waste of time and man power. It started with the Katie Couric theme and then everything else. The original CBS Evening News theme is the "Dan Rather" Trivers/Myers theme. I will write about that someday soon. So now we have this melodic composition return to CBS when it should have never left. It's 2022 and the Trivers/Myers theme returns again! Although this time, the theme as adapted by the wonderful sound designers at antfood NYC.

Susan Zirinsky, you should order the news division to bring this back and use all variations on CBS newscasts. Except Face the Nation which has a very good theme. Forgive me for loving this! 3:05 closing piece is just classic.

@@2listening1 I've seen that video, but there's a difference between the headlines theme and the main theme. The opening theme is part of the latter, and the headlines theme is *sometimes* part of the main theme, but usually they're different. So yes, but no.
