I'm really enjoying your Dorico series. Like many longtime Finale users, I'm learning Dorico as quickly as I can. I've gone through many of Dorico's tutorials and have learned a lot by using Dorico for small projects and learning as I go. I'm in a position now where I've established a good knowledge base, and now I'm watching videos like yours to continue expanding my knowledge. Your Dorico videos are clear and helpful.
I couldn't hear the specific voice's melody I wanted to emphasize no matter how much I reduced the dynamics of other instruments. And I found this while looking for a way. I've been using Dorico for years and I just found out this important thing now. I couldn't find the button of 'enable independent voice playback' at first because the version of my Dorico was different, but I finally found the button while looking for the Dorico manual. Your video was so helpful to me! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, I am glad it could help out. I was the same before I figured it out! I guess sometimes Dorico over-complicate things for the sake of having more options.
Very good, most helpful, thank you! I find Disable Independent Voice Playback erratic - sometimes doesn't work unless I select another track first and sometimes not at all - the voice lanes remain open.
Glad you liked it Derek, In my opinion the whole playback engine of dorico can have a rework! I use alot of different DAWs and notation tool and Dorico is the one with the most audio engine errors!
This is another fantastic explainer video you've created here! Simply because of that I watch them and feel a bit weird about it as I don't need them as a long time Dorico user. Your thumbnails had me clicking on one eventually though, and I'm still here. That speaks in its favour! By the way: have you managed to switch through the types of grace notes with [Alt] and [-] in the meantime?
EDIT: You can also use the "[Alt] method" to add voices, which also has a fourth option: slash notation without stems. To switch through the voice options, press [Shift] + [Alt] + [V] when adding a voice, the latter key as often as necessary/desired.
@@homayoontv I think I wrote it a bit incomprehensibly. What I meant was that with the [Alt] key, you have three options for adding slash notation: first, with the upper stem; second, with the lower stem; and third, without a stem. With the normal adding of a voice without [Alt], you only have normal notes, where pressing the [V] key multiple times also switches between upper and lower note stems. So you actually have five options combined with and without [Alt]: New voice with normal notation (with upper and lower note stems) and slash notation (also with upper and lower note stems, but also without).
I want to play two voices on two different instruments. For example a staff for Soprano and alto and represent those voces with Soprano=flute and clto=clarinet.
I’m considering jumping ship from Sibelius. I’m used to short cuts for choosing/selecting/altering voicing. Are there shortcuts on Dorico Pro please? I’m playing with the SE version and I’m not finding this aspect very intuitive. Thanks for your videos! 🎶
@ Oh thank you for replying! Yes. I do mean the keypad thingy. I just write a chord, select a note with the mouse, and hit the number on the keypad to change voice. I have just started exploring Dorico SE and got myself in quite a muddle with the voices. Over the years I have had some complex piano lines that have needed 3 part polyphonic movement in part of a bar and the Sibelius system was a quick route to dealing with it. Everything on the screen in front of me. Yesterday, with Dorico SE, I ended up having to open a menu to select a note in a chord, and then go to another menu to choose the voice for that note. It was very convoluted and discouraging. Am I going the long way round when there is a quicker route? 🎶🤔
@@Shuna2011 no problem my friend, OK so did you try using V on your keyboard? This will switch your input to a second voice in the same staff, then continue adding notes. But if it's not there press shift+V to add an extra voice. And then you just swap voices with V. So each time you press it swaps voicing.
@ thank you so much for your generous timeI did use the shortcut yes. I have a visual issue and couldn’t make out the little red text so ended up with voice 5 or something! 🤣 I realised later that voices don’t seem to work quite the same way in Dorico that they do in Sibelius. When I used V it added another voice below, but the note still registered as voice 1 in the info section at the bottom of the screen. This completely confused me. I’m going to have a fresh attempt this afternoon. This time I’ll use my magnifier! The other thing that slightly confused me was the need to go into the lower window (keyboard) in order to find the enharmonics. I thought I’d find it where the accidentals are. Is there a shortcut for this please?

Thanks for this as have always stumbled with separate dynamic playback
You are very welcome Robin, glad it helped :)

Dank u voor uw vriendelijke reactie :), Actually I just tried it again and it worked, I will add it to the upcoming video, thanks for the tip.
@@DJKLProductions Hmm, for me it only brings the slashed one! so only three! strange!

Or maybe you mean to change their names?

Hello, what do you mean by shortcuts for voicing? Like the numbers that are on the Sibelius keypad/numerical thingy?

Been there and done that 😂 are you on Windows or Mac? Did you try changing resolution or your scaling option to see if it helps?
