Always loved this song.....NEVER got tired of it. Takes me back to my college years....sure wish I could go back again. ;-) Back in the days when you could attend a HUGE outdoor concert and nobody got attacked, stabbed or shot!! What happened, kids??
My favorite Elton song! What a gift he gave America with this song, I play it every July 4th! However, the live version with the orchestra is da killa!
500,000 people, one of the worlds top artists, entertaining at one of the most famous and beautiful places on Earth. This day must have been special to those who attended. The magic of music! Elton shared his artistry and connected to each soul that day. I think, how many fell in love that day? Cherished the time spent with friends or simple moments of reflection and the feeling of being alive in that moment. What was your perfect day or moment? Where everything was right, the perfect day with that perfect person. It may have lasted 60 minutes or 60 years but that moment was yours and your heart owns it forever. To the moments in life where we find ourselves in that place of perfection, the moments where everything falls into place and we are everything we are meant to be, even if its just for an instant.
Wow, I have watched many versions of this song and Elton just smashes out of the ball park every time from 1980 to 2022....What an absolute legendary musician!! A genius!! If I was a Philadelphian citizen I would be so proud to make this my city's anthem.
Who and why would anyone thumb down this great musician? He is one of the best and him performing in the park, is such a delighful, carefree song and location. Just love it all.

He did win a scholarship at age 11 to the Royal Academy of Music in London and attended on Saturdays for 5 years. He was taught classical music such as Bach and Chopin. His heart was with Rock n Roll though.

@@Hibiscuscalyxes That was the only big C.P. concert I could make (it was the first massive one they did). After that, work and school made it tougher. He's such a rock and roll star. He plays that piano like a rock guitarist, with such ease.
100% correct.
It's like an extension of his lil fingers! Effortless!
Yup. A true professional- as was the whole band. Layin' it down.
Dee Murray deserves a songwriting credit for his bass line on this song.
Absolutely !!! And also for his bass playing on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
You damn right!! I live the studio version LIKE omg that BASS!
Someone should isolate the drums and bass and piano tracks from the studio recording to show this properly.
Na. But the tempo of this is textbook.
