Thank you so much for this video. I also have a paph I got from a friend who was getting too old to keep up with the watering, so I inherited 11 new orchids. I am going to try to convert this paph to WC. Thank you again. I at least have this info about the short and long rhizosomes to add to my arsenal of info. Also a video from Nina who was extremely helpful so I learned I did everything wrong with my first one. Ok, new page. Wish me luck.
Hi Danielle, hope you are doing well !!! The way they look matters, not for them surely but aesthetically those beads are very attractive and clean. Most importantly they like that set up, so everyone is happy 🤩
Go to a restaurant supplier. You can find soup containers there. Actually you can find lots of useful things there. And I am glad your Max ten bloomed! And lots of flowers! Ironic, my regular one hasn’t bloomed yet but yellow one is in bloom.
I’m afraid of going to a restaurant supply store, I loooovvvee to cook (I almost went to culinary school) so I’m afraid I’ll buy the whole place 😂 but that is a good idea for getting the containers. I actually ordered the ones I have from Amazon for a pretty reasonable price. Thanks for getting my mind going in the correct direction for the maxillaria! I love the fragrance!
@@daniellesorchidranch1591 I know what are sold in those stores pretty well since I used to be a chef. Lol! I have 2 bags of soup containers readily available in my house.
Danielle it's always good to hear from you. Hope all is well! I get so much from your videos! Did you say that u pot your vanilla plant the same way as your paphiopedilums?
I didn't hear how you watered the Papheopedilum. Is it the same as the Cattleya Orchid? Weekly fill vase to the top with water for several hours, and then drain? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Very informative video, thank you! I like that you explain everything and don't leave any doubt in my mind what you're doing or why you're doing it. What do you next? How much water goes into the vase without holes as opposed to the vase with holes, and how long do you leave it? I have Phrag here I would like to try in water but I'm still a bit confused about watering.
Hey, my fellow orchid lover 💕 i bet the roots are so much easier to remove from the pot and beads as well, right? Or do they attach as well? Not as much as on leca for sure. Have you found a source for your blue beads again? I love it when roots find the bottom of the pot and go... mmmhhh ok... I will just go at a right angle along the bottom... 😅 unpotting those are so much fun, the base of the root system is easy to gage and pot up. Had a case like that recently. Great video and well done on the maxillaria 👍🏼❤
Hello my friend Nina! When I repotted my Cattleya’s they definitely were a little bit stuck in the container and several of them had grabbed on to the glass beads pretty good but a good soak got them off pretty easy. The glass beads don’t have pores so it’s easier to remove the roots from. I was able to find a relatively local place that carries the blue glass beads which is great because as my plants grow the containers grow and my need for glass beads grow 😅 I love finding root growth it’s so rewarding to know that your plants are happy! I know that you also get excited about roots as much as I do! 🎉🥳🎉 Thank you for watching my friend and I hope you have a fabulous week! Sending my usual dose of virtual hugs and positive orchid vibes! 🤗🌺🌱🌸
Great timing, and great video Danielle 👏 I got a Paphiopedilum for my birthday last month and want to repot it in some variety of semi-hydro, but I don't like how leca works for me (at least not the leca I've found...). I've used gravel instead, but would like to find glass beads in bigger portions than 100g. I'm thinking on using polished lake stones (3-5 cm). What is the size of your glass beads? I'm thinking they are less heavy than stones 🤔 Edit: great job on the Maxillaria 🤩🥳
I am not sure of their weight but they are probably the same as a small pebble. I think pebbles would work well for this. I actually ran out of glass beads at one point and I used small pebbles to pot my Venus flytrap in this method. Thank you for watching!
@@daniellesorchidranch1591 the rocks I mentioned were huge 🤣 I don't know what I expected but not that 🙈 3-5 cm is fairly big for rocks ment for planting 🙃 I ended up buying granite pebbles of 11-16 mm in size and look forward to cleaning and using them 🤩🥰
😂 I know! Time for some take out, right? I really want to repot my Zygo but I know they don’t like their roots disturbed so I am hesitant. I just don’t like the algae buildup in its container
@@daniellesorchidranch1591 well, in your setup, it should come out easily, a repot should be easy. The problem you usually encounter with them is they are in bark or moss and trying to remove the media you damage the stink out of the roots and it kills the roots. I just received a stonking huge one that had been in its pot way too long. The only thing I could do with it is pull it from the old pot and plunk it into a larger pot and stuff new moss around the outside. I will have to wait two growth cycles before I unpot it and try and deal with the mess in the center.
@@michaelmccarthy4077 ahhhhh, that makes sense! And the new growth is just starting its new roots so perhaps now is actually the right time.....🤔 Interesting and exciting! I will do it in a video so I can show the root growth. Stay tuned!
So innovative in your improvised rooting medium approach based on your understanding of creating a more even humid rooting zone needed by paph.

May I ask… rather than cloth… why not bark ? Not enough climate?
I don’t use any organic media in my set up. The cloth doesn’t break down like organic media would. Just my personal preference.
Can you talk about your vanilla plant?
I will include that in my next video for you. Thanks for watching!
