      It is known as the femoral artery, if it is severed you will bleed out in 30 seconds or less.
      It runs from your thigh all the way down to your knee and then splits and travels down the calf muscle. (More or less)
      It is the absolute worst artery for you to have damaged in your body, mostly because of all the muscle tissue in your body that will naturally tighten up in order to try to restrict the blood flow thus keeping you and emergency personnel from reaching it and stopping it completely.

      Hot rounds are rounds that have been loaded with more than their standard load of powder for some reason either an error at the factory or something. In any case they are a double edged sword in that they can increase your muzzle velocity hand help you shoot further provide more stopping power. But the trade off is they increase the chamber pressure in the gun and if a round is too hot the gun may explode.

      I have heard that gunpowder over a long period of time can become unstable, so I guess it is possible that the bullet was so old that the gunpowder inside of it had become unstable and thus more powerful than it should have been?

Mr. Serbu found that those SLAP rounds were indeed reloads, and instead of the appropriate, slower burning rifle powder, they were loaded with a mix of 'cooler' rifle and 'hotter' pistol powders.

    Not just an eye... the fragments could easily have killed him by going through the eye socket and into the soft stuff inside. When the other rounds in the box were inspected, they could see that at one point or another someone had mixed in pistol powder, which is designed to explode faster so the bullet gets more power before leaving a shorter barrel. In this case, it just made a very nice rifle into a pipe bomb.

  • @Razgriz85
    @Razgriz85 5 месяцев назад +16

    They found powder that's used for pistols in 1 of the rounds, so someone reloaded it with the wrong powder and probably too much. That builds up way too much pressure for the firearm to handle and it inevitably fails in some capacity, in this case, it exploded in Scott's face. Also, those are military surplus SLAP rounds, which aren't made anymore, and what's left in circulation are very expensive and old. Plus there are dangerous reloads, and fakes out there.

    Kentucky ballistics has a whole series based from this incident where he intentionally causes firearm failures just to see what and how it happens with different weapons. He did another video where he fired all the other rounds from the same batch of the one that exploded none were as hot but several were close but all of them had been tampered with some how more than likely someone made counterfeit rounds and he unfortunately wound up with them. If im correct serbu sent him a new rifle just like the exploded one and scott used a special super hot round and in my opinion it was still slightly less because it only bent the barrel retainers rather than breaking them off like the one that wound up in scotts lung but otherwise the rifle failed almost identical to the first and the chamber pressures were alot more that they though at first.

  • @MxMe-su1ch
    @MxMe-su1ch 3 месяца назад +1

    Scott sent the RN-50 back to Serbu, and he went over it personally. The conclusion was that this round was loaded with pistol powder, not rifle powder. Rifle powders burn more slowly, because the long barrel allows for a longer "push". This was basically a bomb waiting to explode in any 50 BMG.
    Really bad handloading was the culprit.

    Scott made one minor error while talking about his injuries. It's not the Vein that supplies oxygenated blood to the brain, but the Artery. Arteries supply oxygenated blood to wherever it's needed, while the veins transport the de-oxygenated blood back to the heart to be re-oxygenated. Also, an artery contains muscle tissue, so in the event of a minor injury to an artery, the artery can close itself off to mitigate the loss of blood. A vein does not contain muscle fibers and thus, a lacerated vein cannot close itself off to mitigate loss of blood. So in that regard, a lacerated vein can actually be worse than an artery (though naturally this depends on the specific case in question and just how severe the damage is). This also means that there was actually no risk of Scott suffering a stroke once they stopped blocking off his lacerated Vein, since it transported blood _away_ from the brain rather than _to_ it.
    Regardless, Scott is incredibly lucky to be alive, as by all rights he _should_ have died. He clearly had some guardian angels watching over him that day.
    And I'm pretty sure (though I'm only guessing here) that he didn't want his kids to see him before he went into surgery so that they didn't have to see just how messed up and how badly injured he really was, just in case it wound up being the last time they ever got to see him alive. He probably wanted to make sure that their last memory of their father would be of him perfectly healthy, rather than him looking like he'd just stumbled out of a horror movie. He likely didn't want to scare them anymore than they already would have been.

    Veins can be way more dangerous than arteries. the reason being is that arteries regulate blood flow by constricting. so they basically squirt blood once they're severed but the they constrict and steam the loss of blood. Veins on the other hand regulate blood flow using valves so even though they are low pressure the wont stop bleeding without outside pressure being applied to them.
