  • In February 1980 Ballymote GAA club organised a fund-raising Baronial Election to finance the construction of a new pavilion at its ground in Corran Park, Ballymote.
This novel event was filmed by a BBC crew and broadcast on the Nationwide programme in March 1980, and was introduced by Frank Bough.
Enjoy this wonderful portrait of my home town where a plethora of interesting characters make this report both light-hearted and immensely insightful.
Kindest recognition to the BBC for their production of this report and the people of Ballymote for their good-humoured involvement in this project in which €42,000 in today's money was raised.

Loving learning about my ancestral town of Ballymote. My great-great grandmother Mary Ann Cannon came from here, born in about 1860...before moving to Oldham in Lancashire in about 1880. Long long ago, but not forgotten by the family. We always remember where we came from!
Call me a Plastic Paddy if you want, but this place is still somewhere in my heart :-) Good to know about roots.

That was a real bit of nostalgia and good craic! . I was born and brought up in Ballymote and recognised lots of faces. Many are no longer with us sadly.

The nostalgia of moving on...and another fills the space as we fill another.

Genius . . . and the best of us. Fair play Ballymote.

My father and his 13 brothers and sisters are from Bally-remote, some of them appear as kids here.... I just love the overall tone of superiority and bemusement from the journalist...they just don't get the criac.
