Watching these movie bumpers is like traveling back in time to the 1970s and 1980s. What a wonderful time, and much thanks to the uploader. Those movie bumpers are all still awesome art graphics.
I'm glad to read everyone's fond memories of this logo, I feel the same way. My Mom passed away this year and I've been thinking about my childhood so much, my times with her and how we love movies and I just thought of this logo and wanted to see it again... and here it is. Glad to see it, thank you.
The wonderful thoughts and memories this brings back. The comfort of knowing I had family around me that cared. So few responsibilities. And a simpler time in the world.
Yes I totally agree with you. I really believe that we were blessed to have experienced those days and grow up with carefree times. As I get older I often think back and remember the simple things that we did as a family. Those are the special memories that you carry with you throughout your lifetime...
Wow.. They don't do things like this anymore.. Such great memories of this with the Friday Night Movie. The music and graphics were so proud, dramatic, and exciting that you WANTED to watch the movie ! Great memories, sitting there to the start of the weekend, eating pizza or whatever, everybody getting situated and comfortable, finding their seat getting the snacks or popcorn...
thnx for posting. so many great memories of what it was like in our family. no cursing, no alcohol or drugs. couldn’t understand why ppl longed for the past, but posts like this are priceless
This is a memory of television that really stands out for me. I remember this so well! The ending music was like the closing music to the evening; like a conditioned response that it was time for bed for us kids. What happy times they were; the carefree life of a kid when the world was new...
I absolutely remember those days watching the ABC Sunday Night Movie. I think the biggest one of all was when "The Poseidon Adventure" made its network premiere in October of 1974. We were glued to the set. This movie got a 34 share and that was monumental. I can remember Gene hackman closing the doors after the water came pouring in to the ballroom and the people were screaming. Then it went into the second commercial break. Oh those were the days!
Ooh! This brings me back to a time when my family and I were gathered around the set, on a hot summer night with the ac on full blast with snacks, popcorn, lemonade, munchies, all ready to watch the latest movie. It had to be the summer time because my parents didn't allow us to watch anything late when there was school the next day. Memories. How sweet! I remember some ice skating movie starring Jimmy MacNichol (my biggest crush) and some creepy movie highlighting the dangers of hitchiking that scarred me for life! lol.
Gosh, amazing how you can forget how something goes til 3 seconds into the intro...the memories just flood back...much the same as yours ...Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders movie and The Island of Dr. Moreau come to mind. The latter scared the crap out of me as a kid.
If I remember correctly, this ABC intro and music was used from about 1974 until 1981. Great memories I had of this we're seeing this intro before the TV movie pilots of The Six Million Dollar Man, The Night Stalker, and the original Battlestar Galactica.
Someone else also commented on this but remember if it was a movie you did not want to watch and it was warm all the kids went outside for a while and you would literally hear this echoing everywhere as all the parents were watching it with the TV's up and the windows open.
Television was better back then but the commercials were a pain. Seeing the commercials from then today however is just extra nostalgia reinforcing that era.
I know what you mean my mom passed away 12 years ago and when I hear this it brings me back memories of my mom and I watching movies when I was 2,3,4 years old makes me want to cry.
Brings back serious memories of movies like "The Boy In The Plastic Bubble"..Invasion Of The Body Snatchers " , "Jaws" ..Moore Bond movies , "The Car ,The Other Side Of The Mountain , Grizzly and Bo Svenson Walking Tall movies (which i LOVED btw ...always dreaded the ending of the Final Chapter)
God I wish I could go back . The hell with this way of life. It's not what I thought it was going to be that was promised to us with technology . It only makes things worse. These were times when you watched AS A FAMILY when it came on, not when you wanted to watch it.. We all looked forward to night at the movies at home. Everyone got baths, showed and mom made jiffy pop and we really watched TV together. Oh! And we never locked our doors.
Agreed. Back then when television was free. And good family quality programming. Unlike the trash we have on television today,. Boy, I miss those days too.
You're absolutely right. I never thought I would see these memories from my childhood ever again. I'm thankful that the Internet and RUclips in particular is good for something.
I couldn’t wait for this to come on, we’d be in the living room with a huge bowl of popcorn waiting with anticipation. Snack refills and bathroom breaks during commercials, great times.
Thanks for posting I always liked that introduction.... I turned seven in 1977 and I remember watching the beginning of these movies although I was not allowed to watch the end of it because it ended too late. I was too young to remember the previous ABC movie theme before this one.
My friend, I'm six yrs older than you, but you get it about how badly TV has deteriorated for the most part. We can only be thankful that RUclips is here and there were folks with VCRs who saved those tapes of TV shows.
@@joemartin1253 Around the time the daytime drama "The Edge of Night" moved to ABC from CBS. In fact, ABC wanted to show the day's episode of "Edge" on ABC late night, but Donald May, who played Adam Drake (the show's star) objected and threatened to leave. May did leave in 1977 when his character was killed off.
While this intro was being used, I was doing the Sunday night news on a TV station in far south Texas. Being just about as far away from New York as one could get, we were glad that we were affiliated with a network that did classy production like this and put on entertainment that made people feel good. Hearing this theme again, I remember how back in 1979 it signaled to me that it was time to get scripts ready for the 10:00 news!
Nice story. Back then - when we were limited to just three networks, they had to develop programming to bring people together - urban, suburban, and rural. Now - everything is narrow-casting. So-called "hit shows" now have fewer people watching than average shows did back then. While there are some very good shows, that feeling of the whole nation watching something together is lost.
I remember when this came on it was almost time for bed. I truly believe that we were blessed to have experienced those days. I really miss them now more than ever before.🤔
Hearing this opening theme music usually meant it was time for me to do my homework for Monday--unless it was a Bond film! Then I would do that watching Bill Beutel and Roger Grimsby on NYC channel 7 Eyewitness News after the movie! ABC was king back then.

I first saw The Golden Voyage of Sinbad on ABC. Most people did not have cable or VCRs yet, so when a movie came on it was a big event. They had slightly different intros for Friday and Saturday nights.
The introduction, that's all, just the introduction theme-music of alot of these old TV-shows automatically brings a smile to my face. Thanks for posting.
Boy, it just isn't the same anymore. Seeing something like this back then really got the blood pumping in anticipation, knowing something special was coming up, and if you missed it, you'd have to wait months or maybe years before it's rerun. It's just not the same popping in a DVD whenever you want nowadays. Although people might not mind the FBI warning at the beginning of the DVDs so much if they had some pizzazz like these intros.

I remember looking at the tv movie listings in TV guide every week back in the 70s to see which theater movies were on ABC, NBC or CBS night at the movies, TV before cable was simple.
People don’t realize these movies were our outlet for watching films at home during this time period. VCR’s were not available yet and I don’t remember our house having cable until the early 80’s. Even then, cable channels were extremely limited.
VCRs were out but they were the size of a Vista Cruiser. When the Friday Night Movie was listed, you had to make a choice - go out or stay home and watch the movie that won't be available again until the summer.
Media Sawdust Well, you’re right, they were technically “available” but didn’t really exist in public households until it became an actual benefit. Video rental stores didn’t really start popping up until the 80’s’though and since vcr copies of films were incredibly expensive to replace, no one owned any kind of a library that wasn’t shabbily recorded from tv. I remember once I wanted to own Predator so bad when it was available for rent and asked the Blockbuster employee how much would it cost if I “lost” the movie. He said it’d be $90 and that was without a jacket.

I hear you, Moore, this theme brings me back memories of 1977 I was 17 years old back then.
Eldon Moore there was nothing better than a Sunday night movie with the family at home.
I can relate. My eyes well up every time I see this.

Astounding what a few bars of good music can do to your soul. Gee whiz.
So many memories…sitting in front of the tv with my mother and siblings. Loved this theme music the most.

Ladies and gentlemen and young millinials this was the 1970's THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION!
ABC Sunday Night movies were usually really good back in the pre-cable TV days. Our whole family would watch them together.
When there were 3 channels and that was exciting enough.
Television was better back then but the commercials were a pain. Seeing the commercials from then today however is just extra nostalgia reinforcing that era.
