They're really giving sponsorships to anyone these days
@@cyan_oxy6734That's rude.
Congrats on the sponsorship
@@cyan_oxy6734 They are giving them to people who encourage learning, science and curiosity. If they were giving them to anyone, where is yours? Chemdelic just makes great, high quality content, that's why he got it. His channel has the potential to grow into the millions.
If you keep rapping, and huffing them gases you can be Phlegm-inem. You can do a remake of Let Me Clear My Throat
Silly goose activities confirmed
HONK HONK
LOL
@@chemdelicI do not think that you are a silly goose at all I have full confidence in you having the necessary skills and experience as well as the appropriate safety gear (PPE) and safety equipment to work with iodomethane safely and also excellent quality chemistry video fascinating very well done sir. I really appreciate experienced chemists like you conducting dangerous chemistry experiments like the one in this video safely so I can still learn about them if I don't have the necessary skills or experience to conduct them safely myself
Silly Willy ahh.💀
Silly goose behaviour
Very Cool how you made the Hamilton Morris inspired reaction animation 🔥
Hamilton is a legend. I love this channel because of how similar it is to what he used to do.
Love the new editing, also congrats on beaing sponsored
Thank you brother!
Methylating his DNA for our entertainment, silly goose behavior indeed.
Methyl iodide gave me my worst chemical burn - it's a vesicant. Yes, I was wearing gloves - either they were too thin or had a pinhole
It's not really that the DEA doesn't want people to have it, it's more about manufacturers keeping track of sales/purchase records, reporting suspicious buyers, etc. There really are no federal laws regarding normal people owning it other than not using it to make anything illegal. This is all made clear in the DEA's list of controlled substances, list 1. All of the regulations are geared towards sellers and manufacturers of HI. Not the buyers. Basically, don't do anything illegal with it and it's fine to have. Not that it won't get you weird looks and make people suspicious of you for having it... Now, this does not take into account individual state, county and city laws. Which may be different where you live. Always check the different layers of laws that pertain to you where you live before trying to make/acquire it. That said, those who know me should know that I do not supply it to anyone at all. Just the word "HI" draws in people who have ill intentions and I'd rather not have them asking me to make/find it for them.
The DEA doesn't try to prevent people from making drugs, they just try to make it unprofitable by creating hoops to jump through to get reagents at scale
Other countries don't do that, so people just make them there and smuggle them in, so money leaves the country and the DEA agents all pat themselves on the back
We need more people like yourself teaching our youth in high school, me for one would have stuck around a lot longer.
Had to do an SN2 bromination for my diploma. Turned out that microwaving the mixture in small intervals and cooling in between raised the yield from 60 to 80 percent. The microwave causes just the right vibration to easily loosen the H2O from the C. Not sure about SN1 reactions though.
The fun part of all this is, if you went back sixty years, this would just seem like a regular instructional chemistry video. It's just the patch in the middle where all the hysteria has arisen. You look at the old 'Amateur Scientist' sections of scientific american and it says things like 'go down to your local chemist and buy some nitric acid'. We need to bring back amateur chemistry and a little more scientific curiosity.
The DEA has restricted most of the basic building blocks and reagents because they can be used to make illegal drugs. It's not really possible any more.
@@Andrew-un8txWhich is a huge shame for amateur chemists just looking to do some benign reactions.
Also when people finally stop using oil it's going to be bad news for us as well because then there won't be any more easily accessible hydrocarbons.
@@Andrew-un8txwhich does not particularly benefit anyone
@@chri-k except the CIA. They can run their own cartels this way basically unimpeded by anyone.
@@Andrew-un8txyou can still get or make nearly anything you want, your name just gets recorded and if you order certain things together or over time you may get a visit. As long as you can explain you'll generally be fine.
i love how ever since hamilton got pupular, his "fast synthethis interludes" are everywhere ^^
Awesome, I love the direction this channel is going. You're sure to attract more attention (and thus young minds captured by chemistry) with the amazing production quality
Wow, thank you!
@@chemdeliche's not wrong, you do great work. I only hope my videos end up being as good in a few years. Gonna start soon, I have some ideas.
You could try for Diazomethane , but then you might become a cooked goose .
Can't wait to see how many Bluelight threads will link to this video.
You should extract scopolamine from datura seeds and make a motion sickness patch or something
Nifty. And my thanks. There might be another approach with a path involving the Mannheim Process. Start with NaI in methanol dripping in H2SO4 (con) very slowly, as the Rx heats a bit. Then distill. Best if you have an excess of the salt left over.
It also works with MeOH and iodine using red P or aluminum foil as a catalyst. But be careful: iodo methane isn't just toxic but carcinogenic, too.
Yeah I just don’t have any red p unfortunately. Thank you for the advice!
@@chemdelic But you should have aluminum foil, shouldn't you? ;-)
I must admit that I only tried it with ethanol using iodine and aluminum foil so far (because ethyl iodide is less toxic and not carcinogenic), but it worked perfectly fine.
Can add some mercury to it mid to late reaction to form dimethyl mercury ang HgI2 if you want to upgrade to the ultimate in carcinogenic, neurotoxic, and mutagenic toxicity.
@@experimental_chemistry I legit did not read that right LOL. I did just get some iodine so maybe I will try again
Empowering the population via biochemical catalyst’s one pr3cvrser at a time. In such a land where domestic synthesis procedures have become so remarkably tedious we need scientists like you to bring to the cause. Thank you my fellow agent of reductive amination
It would be nice to see a SN2 reaction with that CH3I
If you are feeling really brave you can make dimethyl mercury with your iodiomethane. Also it could be made in one flask by mixing iodine, water methanol, aluminum or phosphorus, with some finely divided mercury. Let the iodine, water, methanol, and phosphorus react, then add the mercury once the reaction mixture slows. It forms a bright red precipitate of HgI2 as well as HgMe2.
Yeah I won’t be making that😂😂
why tf would anyone make that? dimethyl mercury killed a chemist with just a single drop hitting the back of her hand, seeping through her gloves
I don't know what Chemdelic races here for, but I guess it is not a Darwin award.
Hey thanks for that post. Ŕead and learned a lot.
I like my DNA with extra methyl groups thank you very much
Robert Frost’s Fire and Ice uses the rhyme ice/suffice. Maybe you’re destined to be a great American contemporary poet
I love how you call out the Alphabet boys jokingly.
I couldn't get toluene because its on the DEAs no no list for individuals. Would they rather people distille it from gasoline? 😂 Some of their choices seem arbitrary.
Why would toluene be on their list? I don't get it.
If I was going to make drugs, I wouldn't start from toluene.
Government moment

Yup cannot find MEK because it's on the list. Not sure why though as is just an organic solvent slightly less polar than acetone.
@@christopherleubner6633 you can absolutely still get MEK, like even in hardware stores
HE GOT A SPONSPRSHIP
I use MeI quite frequently in my lab as an electrophile. Quite a useful molecule and a nice video!
Can you make triethyl citrate, just because why not?
I made methyl iodide long time ago using phosphoric acid and NaI, got 75% yield.
Good thing you didn’t add Red P to your shopping list, Hank would’ve busted in your lab
I want some so bad too!!
Ah yes Wall-E, such a brave little soul!
You really had a thumbs up from go, but I remembered to click it when you rhymed and made me laugh
What a phallic looking molecule in the thumbnail
Brilliant out here thinking this guy is just normal 😂 love to see it
Silly boi over here
How would one make diiodomethane? It's used for separating minerals by density due to its high specific gravity (3.3) and it's really expensive to buy commercially. Also, what's the deal with HI? Why wouldn't the reaction work if you used any strong acid with something like potassium iodide dissolved in the solution as well?
You can use potassium iodide with phosphoric acid and methanol too. I’m not sure with diiodomethane. I can look into though!
Diiodomethane from DCM and NaI in acetone: DOI is 10.1039/CT9211901400
Diiodomethane from iodoform, sodium arsenite, and NaOH: DOI is 10.15227/orgsyn.001.0057
At least iodomethane on the skin is less dangerous than some organomercury compounds…
damnnn okay cheminem we see you 🔥
I once had a Schlenk line break and got methyl iodide sprayed over my face - 😐
That’s scary. Hope you’re alright!
@@chemdelic - 20 years ago, so still too early to tell 😊
What software do you use to make the reaction mechanism animation? :D
Blender!
Aww and just like that the synthesis of hope was destroyed
Bro got sponsored let's go 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is some certified silly goose behavior :P
I seriously thought it was gonna play the breaking bad intro.💀
Now make the purest cesium ever
Idk much about chemicals... but based on the fact the DEA doesnt like something, im pretty sure at least they thought you had ice.
Edit; gee look at that... a quick google search and sure enough it makes dope. Lmao
Dimethylmercury next? :D
NO😂
@@chemdelic NO? nitrogen monoxide way too easy for you :D
Smell it and report back to us.
Feel like this video was a bit fast
Yeah same even I felt it was a little faster!
if the DEA hates hydroiodoic acid so much how'd you get it?
Made it!
@@chemdelic very cool! you have a video on that?
that is one silly looking chemical
Should've been I DO silly things
3:53 What kind of video was that? LOL j/k
Silly goose fanclub reporting in
I don't know what this is but let's have a party anyways🎉 also happy Freedom Day just in case I missed it
Cool intro man reminds me of breaking bad just with out the meth
Eminem is QUAKING
Kratom is extraction 😔
It failed:(
Silly who makes meth from epinephrine but then uses HI as a reducing agent haha can be so much easier
make moed in the future maybe?
Silly goose??? We say that in Halo lol...
I don't know much chemistry but your videos used to be fun before you sold out. No judgement here, just commenting on the change. Lex F links ads in his description like a boss, just saying.
I would have done the same style with or without an ad. I’ve put ads on list one chemicals too!! Ads help to increase what I can do with the money and put more videos out :)
@@chemdelic You've got great content, knowledge and are very entertaining. I very much like your tips about safety and clean up procedures. Your editing is also fantastic which I'm sure must be very time consuming. I appreciate your work.
Cool👍
Are you a chem major? These videos seem like they would be comedic presentations / projects while remaining educational
I am!
Dad joke rimes with bad joke
ay my guy no hate, I like what u doin but moments like the ones at 1:20 make ur videos kinda cringey, like I'm rly not tryna hate cuz I like ur vids but its just like not rly needed and it usually comes off as kind of cringey, Like chemistry RUclipsrs make some funny jokes but they're usually more chemistry related or related to what their doing but these jokes are like a bit too far cuz we already heard u rhyme yk.
My brother in Christ, are you not afraid of the DEA and the risk of having your dog shot?
I look fear in the eyes🙏
Thera nothing to fear. It is not illegal to own. There are a lot of regulations surrounding its manufacture, sale and distribution though. I suggest learning those regulations instead of believing what you see on the Internet. It's perfectly fine to own, as long as you don't do anything illegal with it. Most all of the federal laws are for manufacturers and sellers, not the individual.
The ex reference, lol 😂
"more worse" yeahhhhh stick to chemistry :P
I like your style; you've got spunk, kid.
I had no idea wtf any of that was btw, but it looked pretty neat. Lol.
I can't offer you anything in the way of money for your superb content, but I do want you to have this racoon as a token of my adoring appreciation.
