What you need:
5mm Size Hook
Medium Bernat Cozy Style Yarn
Scissors
Tapestry Needle

Lovely pattern. Did it in the end, had to redo it to understand, especially when decreasing at the start. Perfect fit for me and especially the double brim/band whatever one calls it.

first few stitches you started with double crochets then switched to half double crochets both for the hat and the cowl. Any explanations?
After you join the chain and begin the hdc, do you start in the second stitch or the very first one?
