So many people on here have absolutely no clue how taxes work. If you're a 1099 independent contractor, you have to pay 15.3% tax minimum on ALL of your income. HOWEVER, if you register a company as an LLC and then set it up as a S-Corp tax status, you will only pay the 15.3% tax on PROFIT, meaning only money left over after deductions is taxed. Now, if you're like me, my mileage deduction completely outweighs my income, so to the IRS my company actually loses money, therefore I pay $0 in taxes, completely dodging the 15.3% tax. Even though I make $132,000/yr. There are two significant downsides to this though. One, It is much more complicated, as there are extra tax filings you have to do, like quarterly estimated taxes, so unless you're fluent in tax law, you should definitely be getting a proper CPA to handle everything, which is an added expense, however, the amount of money you can save you in taxes can significantly outweigh the expense, depending on the amount of money you make. And two, because you won't be paying FICA taxes, you won't be putting any money into your social security, so when you retire you'll have less social security benefits. However, the more fluent you get with money, the more you realize what a joke social security is, it's better than nothing for sure, but as long as you're actually investing your money into an IRA or a 401k, you're going to be far better off than social security. And therein lies another tax benefit, if you're not paying any taxes on your income, then you use some of that income to invest in a Roth ira, you're not going to pay any taxes when you withdraw your investments in retirement either, because it's a tax advantaged account.
Finally someone who actually understands business, rich people get richer because they know how to use tax to their advantage 😀 With food delivering you can claim so much like car registration, maintenance, fuel, clothing, drinks and meals, accountant fee's, computer, phone, phone bill, phone cases, charging cables and so much more. Hell if you really wanted to, go finance a car or bike and then you claim the interest as well as the depreciation of the vehicle plus you get to sell it and upgrade again in a few years and do it all over again. The tax bill should always be 0 owed due to deductions, yet so many dont comprehend that you set it up to work for you to avoid being bent over from making a living!
CPA here. This is wrong and no one should rely on it. 15.3% is self-employment tax, which is due on NET income (so after deductions), and the social security part is capped at whatever the cap is for that year. Individuals get to deduct expenses too when they are self-employed. S Corp status will exempt you from the SE tax, but the IRS requires the S Corp to pay the owner a reasonable salary (which of course is subject to FICA).
@@sarrebal self-employment taxes paid on your net income, but if your deductions outweigh your income, then you have no income to be subject to the self employment tax. If you're an s corp, and you pay yourself a wage, you are paid as a W-2 employee not a 1099 self employed, therefore you don't get to deduct expenses on your W2 income. The s corp can still deduct expenses. You do have to pay yourself a reasonable wage however if you pay yourself with tax-exempt money, such as mileage reimbursements, you completely avoid all tax, and if those reimbursements outweigh the income of the s corp, then there is no money left over for a "salary", if there is money left over, you'll pay tax on it. There is a cap to mileage reimbursements though at 0.67 cents/mile for 2024 and you have to keep records, this goes for any tax exempt payments

@@zakman9244 I think people really over state car maintenance in regards to driving. Most routine maintenance happens every two years and total out to be like 1k if you have someone else do it, significantly less if you do it yourself. So for sake of simplicity let's say you drive your car so much the miles make it so that 1k expense happens every year and you get 250 worth of oil changes. Plus a full set of tire every two years (at 1k miles a week). So in total 1750 yearly which is 145 a month. As someone who used to drive I think the amount he made was really high but it's been a minute but I'll say 20 an hour is doable with 8 hours a day that's 160 a day minus half a tank of gas at 30 brings total to 130. Dividing the 145 by 30 is about 5 dollars a day so your take home is 125 a day. Or 15 an hour. The real kicker is the taxes not the maintenance imo. It's all vehicle dependent though when I drove it was with a camry so cost were low, if you drive a big truck I'd imagine the margins get tighter. Personally it's not worth it to me but I'm a full time student and get paid to do that, much easier and less time consuming.
@@devinkipp4344You don’t know how cars work clearly. You need an oil change every 3000 or 5000 miles depending on what oil you get. It’s usually $40 if you’re trying to go to a shop which you most likely are if you’re driving around doing DoorDash and have no time to do it yourself.
Don't forget to factor in the additional cost for insurance. Unless you have a commercial or rideshare policy, your insurance can and will deny you coverage if you're in a car accident. The quote I got with Geico was $14,000 per year for insurance to deliver food
Rideshare insurance $25-$30 a month. All in most money is really profit but you do have the maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle which is what evens out the taxes

Everyone talking about taxes, he is an independent contractor and if he does his taxes correctly by deducting expenses and depreciation he will pay less tax than someone working on a job.

If he were in California, one of the higher tax states, his effective tax rate is 28.79%. this leaves him with around $74,619 after taxes. He could get higher in another state, at MOST $80,000 in a state with a super conservative tax rate.... But honestly I wouldn't wanna work 84 hours a week for just $80,000...

Social security will be bankrupt by the time I try and draw on it.

And you can get the insurance so that doesn’t happen
54* cents short.

I've been a delivery driver. Thing you have to think about is maintenance on your car. Spark plugs, wires, oil, air filter, oil filter, tires, brakes
If your insurance finds out how much you drive your rates will skyrocket. If you're in your car 12 hours a day every day you're almost 100× more likely to get in a wreck than the average driver. I delivered pizza in my old car for 5 years and a few years after i stopped my Honda got side swipped and it wasn't covered when they saw how many miles it had compared to when i first insured it. It was pretty obvious the car was always on the road and not just being used to go back and forth from work. No big deal it was a $800 shitbox thats engine just wouldn't die.
And taxes
If you're making 2 bands a week...
Change brakes and oil change every 10,000 miles... at 179 miles a day- is approx ever 55 days. Call it $300 for brakes and oil change (drastically over for most)
60 days / 7 days a week is appro 8.5 pay outs of 2 bands = 17 bands.
Insurance tops $300 a month- 2 months insurance = $600
Call it a band every 60 days in oil, brakes and insurance- 2 bands if you consider 1 band for other upkeep (again, if your responsible, is way more than needed)
Call it 3 bands for gas over those 60 days.
All in all 5 bands for 60 days for gas, insurance, brakes, oil and another upleep/repairs.
That's approx 12 bands every 2 months after expenses- 6 bands a month - approx $1,500 a week - $214 a day...
Shew.... I really appreciate my job, now- 😅 but all in all- with some of the jobs out there- this grind would he heaven comparable- especially if you like/don't mind driving

if you're serious it just shows how worthless $2k is in 2024. My grandpa was making $15k a year in a factory, and he owned his house and had a new Studebaker in the driveway and grandma cooked and cleaned for him. 👋
@@chrishultgren777 Well, I'm about to buy my first house, my wife stays at home with my daughter and we have two cars that are almost paid off and no matter how much money I have, I'm not throwing money away on brand new vehicles. Lol Sounds like $2k a week isn't so bad.
@@chrishultgren777 I think it helps that I don't have $100,000+ in student loans to pay off.
You could probably make more if you started earlier and took a break from like 1 to 4. Guess it depends on where you are
So you made a dollar more a day! Fantastic!
