      Diamonds have actual value, but that's mainly because they have many uses in industry and scientific research (diamond drill bits and diamond anvil cells are two examples). Large, flawless diamonds are rare, but diamonds in general are not and that is a huge lie many people still believe.

    • @Deathmastertx
      @Deathmastertx 5 лет назад +62

      De Beers no longer holds the monopoly position that they once had, though they are still a huge player, but all gem-quality diamond producers today profit from De Beers marketing brilliance in pushing diamond jewellery sales - particularly engagement rings. I would say that gold, like diamonds, has its practical uses but its value also has a large part to do with people simply believing that it has high worth.

    • @Deathmastertx
      @Deathmastertx 5 лет назад +18

      @Coconut Pal Blue on silver is a nice combo tbh. I think a sapphire in a titanium tension ring would look pretty nice. I have nothing against jewellery but I think that the marketing of diamonds is a bit deceptive as to their rarity and worth and trying to make it an expected requirement of an engagement to have an expensive ring is quite predatory in my opinion.

    • @hiddenboi69
      @hiddenboi69 5 лет назад +13

      @Coconut Pal if you like purity, go either 18k gold or platinum, anything above 18k is too pure, making the gold soft and very easily damagable. As a guy, I prefer 10k for its hardness. Purity isn't always better when it comes to gold, a ring takes far too much wear for something so pure

    • @hiddenboi69
      @hiddenboi69 5 лет назад +3

      @@Deathmastertx stick to gemstones and silver, then. Beautiful a.f, smaller pricetag, and can still be adjusted, unlike titanium. If you lose/gain weight, you need a whole nother ring as opposed to just sizing the one you have

Black diamonds, called carbonado or bort, are common as far as diamonds come, opaque due to their cryptocrystalline structure, and relatively difficult to fracture (unlike gem diamonds, which, while equally hard at 10 Mohs, are also so rigid that they're very fragile to fracture at certain angles, a property called "perfect cleavage" - black diamonds, being made of interlaced microcrystals instead of a single large crystal, don't have angles of perfect cleavage as the fracture can't travel across the interlacing crystals to break the gem), making them good for industrial use.

    Like all gem diamonds, they're much more of a triumph of marketing than something rare or useful. Remember that diamond engagement rings didn't really become popular until the 1940s. The idea of spending two months salary on it? Also marketing. In fact, De Beers (who once held a near monopoly on diamond production) originally recommended a single months salary until they realised they could push it to two and make even more money.

    I mean are we stupid or dumb? They just told up they are basically worthless. The jewelers thought on how to get rid of this cheap material, so they literally just SAY they're expensive. There are soo many diamonds around on earth is mind blowing. People should stop buying then.

    Colored diamonds(blue, yellow, brown pink) occur less frequently in nature than white diamonds. I remember reading an article years ago that it can be as many as 1 out of a million diamonds are naturally colored.

    For people who don't wanna watch the whole video: Because it's a monopoly, diamonds are a lot less scarce than people are led to believe, but due to the diamond monopoly of De Beers they control the prices and supply and can therefore make them artificially expensive.

    Pro tip before you buy a diamond ask, how much that same diamond would sell for second hand, you’d be surprised how much there marked up and the second hand price, if you could even sell them, would be far closer to the ‘real’ value.

    They are all worthless stones. The only use is for cutting. I dont care the colour or shine. If I put kidney stones on j lo's neck or ear as long as she said oh they are Tiffany's stone. The rich and even the poor will pay what I want. Note company's and the bank and the stock market= places where the seller sets up the rules the come up with. Why does a house go from 200,000 to 600,000 then its worth less or more. The bank set the estimate worth. You just spent all your money, in a few year the place is worth 600,000. Give it a few year you think oh I will live here for the rest of my life past it to kids maybe sell it move some where cheaper. Turns out all the while you have been living a care free life the bank drives the prices of the area down, this is of course because they plan on reselling your home as well as the neighborhood. Either to sell to a big conglomerate or to housing Development they own or work for. They make more money mean while you get screwed not by the iluminatti but money. I'm not saying capitalism is evil I'm just that it is a set up.
