I just purchased the iiRcade one last week. I was impressed with the the price drop ($600), the 19" screen size, the upgraded controls, the 100 watt speakers, and the access to download more games via purchase from iiRcade's online store.

I own 2 of the iircade cabs, one of them is dragons lair, so I have no interest in the arcade1up version. Especially 17" monitor is a no go, and that riser looks ugly.. I'm over the risers, it looks so much cleaner one piece
Thanks Patrick! Great, unbiased reviews as always (Hi Jong!) HA HA! :) I've already got the iiRcade edition and an ALU running COX. However, with that being said, I REALLY like the design of the A1U cab. That protruding top is what I remember most about the machine from when I was 16 and playing it at the bowling alley visiting my cousins in California. I doubt I'll buy it though, unless I can score it on the cheap from Walmart clearance or FB Marketplace in a year or so. Thanks again!
Great video Pdubs. I ordered Dragons Lair from Arcade 1up today. I’m super excited to have something that “closely” resembles the original cab I grew up with loving. Remember the 80’s tv show “Silver Spoons” and the rich kid had a Full size Dragons Lair in his home? Man I was jealous and dreamed that could be me someday. this is my chance. Lol. Thumbs up buddy. 👍🏻

The one thing that still baffles me about Arcade1Up is not throwing in a pack of color match screw caps. Such a minimal expense to add on the price for great aesthetics. I guess their classified as children’s toys and they would be a choking hazard? No go on the DL. iiRcade is enough for me.Awesome review👍

Agreed Goofy Foot. I have spent enough money on second party caps to buy another A1UP 😳. But I have always felt the same way, small on the financial side, but great for aesthetics.

I’m super excited for this Arcade1up version! I pre ordered it within minutes of getting a notification. For me, it’s all about the nostalgic feeling I get of hearing the attract mode trailer and the visual design of this cab. Don’t get me wrong, the Iircade version looks great as well and does have that expansion ability for more titles, but like I said, I love the overall look to Arcade1up’s version since it takes me back.

I'm glad you mentioned the question regarding Arcade1up's software versions. Originally, Arcade1up touted that their Dragon's Lair would be running the Daphne emulator versions. Now that information no longer appears on their site, and if you watch the Arcade1up Dragon's Lair trailer, it shows Digital Leisure at the very end, so my guess is they may now be using the Digital Leisure versions, also found on the iiRcade.
Now, that doesn't bother me in the least. I've played Dragon's Lair so many times in the Arcade, and on the Daphne emulator, and I can tell you, Digital Leisure's ports, most of them anyway, are AMAZING, and I like the additional options they offer, so you can play the game in different ways, including the original Arcade style. Digital Leisure's iiRcade port of Dragon's Lair feels identical to the Arcade gameplay and even looks a bit better resolution-wise. Heck, I've even played an actual Digital Leisure Arcade Dragon's Lair machine (yes, they also released an Arcade machine), and I couldn't tell the difference. And as a side note, also playing Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II Time Warp in the arcade and on the iiRcade, I can't tell the difference either, other than better resolution on the Digital Leisure versions. These aren't your typical console ports.
At the end of the day, I'm glad we have so many options to choose from. I was so looking forward to getting the Arcade1up release, but iiRcade did such a great job of bringing home the experience, for me, that I'll be skipping out on Arcade1up's offering. I also have my New Wave Toys Dragon's Lair sitting proudly on top of my iiRcade, so I can gaze at the original's beauty. But nothing can compare to the ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL artwork, Jong and the boys did on their iiRcade masterpiece. And with all the missteps Arcade1up keeps making lately, releasing cabinets with problems, or wifi updates causing new problems, I just don't trust them right now to deliver a Dragon's Lair experience I would be happy with.

Their has to be sentimental attachment, this sentiment is extremely subjective from one individual to another. I'm not willing to purchase an inferior cab due to any sentimental yearning for the original look. Comprende?

Few people seem to remember the excellent PC version of Dragons Lair, called "Dragon's Lair 3D - Return to the Lair", released about 20 years ago. I would love to see an emulation of that game being made into a dedicated arcade cabinet. I'd also like to have that 3D PC game on my Android phone just for fun.
It had an excellent symphonic soundtrack throughout the game, written and orchestrated by the great filmmusic composer Christopher Stone. He also composed a catchy song for the end credits of the game, "He's My Guy". Highly recommended!
I have that for the original Xbox. It was pretty great. I'm just pissed that they never made it back-compatible for the 360 or the One.
So this is going to seem really random but... I was just looking at plasma balls to buy on amazon the day before watching this... and they all seem to be hazardous lol. One review said the damn thing blew up in their kids face, another one had ozone leaking. I just want a recommendation on where to get a quality one, thoughts?
This is just one I got off Amazon for $30, not something I would "leave on" for an extended period of time. Probably best to go the high end route you get what you pay for kind of thing.

Simple answer, if you want an authentic representation, it’s New Wave Toys. If you missed out on their first and second run offerings, then be willing to pony up on the secondary market.
I pulled the trigger on the Arcade1up version yesterday. I’m really digging the final design. I had to promise the wife I wouldn’t buy anymore cabs. I also have the NewWave Toys red trim ordered along with both Space Ace versions.

Just give her 500 dollars like i did with mine, they become really docile and often willing participants in a game or two once you set it up. Neat little trick i learned along the way.

My reply is usually don’t worry about it. Grabbed new wave toys dragons lair and space ace when they came out. Was waiting for a price drop on arcade 1up, so just pulled the trigger on that for $450 with wayfair 10% off code.
I've already got multiple ways to play Dragon's Lair and I'm still considering the AC-1up because of the cabinet itself. Shipping direct to Canada is brutal so I'm going to wait for a retail release. If it remains online only then I guess I'm passing.
Big Pass for me as it would just be a Dust collector... But it is a Good Show Piece but in terms of a game wise it is an Interactive movie game. Which doesn't have much replay value. Other games like this "Time Gal, Time Traveler, Cobra Command, and of course one of my Favorites "Night Trap" for the SEGA CD, which is one of the hardest to do a 100% on. Night Trap also was the reason we have a "Mature" grading system on Video Games. A more recent Fantasy game which in my opinion was an Actual Video Game and used the Dragon's Lair type quick time was a Playstation 3 game called "Lair". So if you guys are totally into those types of games check out the mentions. I will see you on the - FLIP SIDE! -

Yeah that's why i think this is best on the iiRcade. It has some other fun games, so i don't have to feel guilty by making it just a pretty display item, i'll actually play TJ&E, i'll actually play Wonderboy The Dragons Trap and i don't have either on my Raspberry pi build.
I REAAAAAAALLLY hope the folks over at iiRcade get more strong indies like the ones i mentioned. It would help them to stand out in the plug and play dept by having more modern titles easily available to download and play.
honestly were i them... all my efforts the next several months would be poured into securing as many IP's as possible to fill out these new cabs which are SURE to sell well. People will get pretty upset if they find out the lineup is shallow and it stays that way.
What they have now can last a bit, but most people will expect more soon. Or they simply won't be return customers to fill out their space with more cabs.
Easiest decision ever! The cabinet itself looks way better and it's a multicade.. you would have to be crazy to not just buy the Iircade

That is one thing Arcade1up never drop the ball on. And you can bet they will be usually the actual arcade rom in their cabinet unlike iiRcade.

Good point about the lack of info on Daphne emu and Roms. Time to do some digging on that, if it’s a console version I’ll pass. Build my own with my DL DVD’s and Daphne. Had no idea iircade had console versions, super hard no for me now.

Legends Ultimate was my favorite platform. I buy for both nosltaga and play and the LU covers ALL game inputs almost. It's an all-in-one machine with MASSIVE expandability. Really, for the money, it's the best.

I have the New Wave Toys Dragon's Lair. It's a great little game but as you stated only the one game. I know I have stated many times on your channel A1Up's prices have turned me off on A1Up but that Dragon's Lair cab is sweet looking. But, with the price drop on IIrcade I am tempted to get that due to the sale and I could sale a couple A1ups. It's a hard choice. lol

I’m good with the Iircade plus I can have the spectator screen via hdmi out which 1up doesn’t have …. Granted the lcd score panel is nice but that sacrificed the panel authenticity not angling the deck properly. I love the marquee but im curious to see the light passing through that unique marquee… Something tells me it won’t be uniform… Also why can’t they use black screws or provide cap covers not like that’s a substantial cost. Another issue if you want to mod the panel has limited game potential only having 2 action buttons… Buy what you like don’t let anyone tell you otherwise… Excellent video pdubs.
unless one of my kids moves out, I have room for just one cab so I chose the ALU.. I haven't played DL much on it because it seems kind of clunky on the sauce5

I had every intention of ordering the Arcade1Up Dragon’s Lair cabinet, right up to the moment I found out they’re starting to make XL or ProLine editions of other cabs. So, I have no intention of dropping $600. for this edition only to find out they’re doing upgraded versions down the road. And if they never do, well, I’m not going to lose any sleep over not getting this $600 cabinet. I want one, but I’m not going to have to drop another $1K at a later date for the better version.

The iiRcade Dragon’s Lair, is the blu-ray version, not arcade rom, the Arcade 1up I heard when it was first announced, is suppose to be arcade rom, hope it is, the iiRcade version play different than arcade version, so will be disappointed if Arcade 1up Dragon’s Lair, does not run the arcade rom.

I wanted Arcade1up's offering, and even had them notify me, when it was available, but I thought they'd abandoned the production. When iiRcade launched pre-orders for the Gold edition of Dragon's Lair, I reluctantly went ahead, and ordered that offering. Not long after, A1up launched theirs. Really irks me when this stuff happens. I don't have a vast income, and certainly not enough funds to get both. And they are equally impressive machines. Thanks for sharing.
I say be happy with your decision, that iiRcade cab is gorgeous! Also nice to run other games on it even if you already have a multicade setup. Besides... risers make them look like a kids toy XD
@@EQOAnostalgia Indeed. It is gorgeous. With regards to the A1ups, without risers, I'd be breaking my back, bending over to play them. LOL But, yes, it is nice to have a cab that runs full length, all the way to the floor, with no riser taking away from the gloriousness of this cabinet. However, I'm legally blind, so I may be on the look out for a riser kit, to bring the screen closer to me. I'll know for sure, in a couple of months, when I have it studio. I just wish iiRcade had put gold T-molding on the Dragon's Lair cabinet. Maybe I can find some fake T-molding to do the job.

Great video Pdubs! I have a iiRcade DL edition from the kickstarter.i also bought the Replicsde last year.i have to say that I'm disappointed in the iiRcade version of the game. It's nothing like the actual arcade gameplay - even the "arcade" version is different than what I remember playing in the arcade. The Replicade runs exactly like the arcade version so I'm going right along with you that we actually do get the original "roms"like John D originally said. I did preorder it today though- it looks close enough to me to get that nostalgia going. I do hope though that they don't do the red t- molding. I don't mind it on the side panels but it ruins the look of the marquee. The new Replicade version with the red is done correctly. Thanks!

I have to admit, Arcade 1Up got me with FOMO, and New Wave Toys got me with FOMO on the Space Ace and Dragon's Lair minis.
I have the iiRcade standard Dragon’s Lair. I like the art, but ironically I have the Dragon’s Lair art less for any attachment to Dragon’s Lair and more because I wasn’t much into Retromania Wrestling, and didn’t want to apply the Double Dragon vinyl. If I didn’t already have the iiRcade I’d prolly pay the extra to get the new gold version, but at this point I’m not even sure I’m gonna keep the iiRcade at all. They really have underwhelmed me with game additions in terms of modern Indy games, and I’ve since built a PC cab that can do steam games. I want to like the iiRcade, but the games like Mayhem Brawler and Riptide GP Renegade that truly take advantage of the hardware have been few and far between, and I’m really not feeling most of the b list taito games.

I wanted the arcade 1up. I pre-ordered it the moment I got the update. I don't like multicades with so many extra buttons. No disrespect to anyone who disagrees. That's why there are so many options, pick your own poison so to speak. For my money, I want the arcade 1up. I played Dragon's Lair when I was 4, and was predictably horrible. Hope to do better this time.

The scariest decision is to know WHEN to buy it. Do you buy it now and take the risk? Or call their bluff and see if they sell at their affiliated box stores? Will this be another burger time one time deal again? 🤷♀️
What if the game actually sucks? Not knowing which version they went with. Dealing with returning to arcade 1up.
Very exciting to see these products finally coming. if I remember correctly this was a this was a cab that the fans voted for to make possible. Are they limited to 3000 units like the Burger time? I might regret it but I'm not gonna preorder one because I'm very happy with my standard iircade dragon slayer Great video👍

I have the Iircade version and I preordered the New Wave Toys red version. I think I am good. Though I can’t say I wasn’t a bit tempted. But must say it is very disappointing that they don’t have WiFi for on-line leaderboards. At this stage of the game in the home arcade landscape, I feel this is an inexcusable exclusion.
Nobody really cared about their score when playing Dragon's Lair. In fact, the best way to get a high score it to repeatedly die so that you can replay sections of the game and, thus, get points for what is replayed. i.e., the game rewards you for using all your lives.
@@jpears1100 I know, that aspect of the game is really annoying. I wish it would just allow you to play through again until you lose all of your lives. But Wi-Fi would also make a big difference for game/system firmware updates. Look at all of the issues with the latest Golden Tee. Moving forward I don’t think there is a reason not to have these cabs Wi-Fi enabled IMHO.

Agreed. I'm in love with that thing and got it when it was $120. The prices have certainly shot up since then but has not stopped me from pre-ordering Space Ace Replicade.
Stick with new wave. The changes A1up made to the control panel and lower portions of monitor suck. Last years announcement version looked so much better than this. I don't understand why the changes when A1up got it right the first time.
My guess is adding a second monitor drives up cost and they had to cut some corners
Arcade 1ups quality issues are an ongoing issue. My iiRcade is far better quality than any of the arcade 1up machines I own. iiRcade has better buttons, joysticks, the build quality is superior. Just about everything is a better experience. Yes, the Arcade 1up looks like the original, but so does my Arcade 1Up Tron and its a POS when it comes to quality. I know everyone has different views, but the quality concerns surrounding Arcade 1Up must be taken into consideration.
So excited when I got the email from A1Up that Dragon’s Lair was available for preorder. Preordered mine immediately, then looked at the new renders and description of it. Can not wait.
Meh 😑 well let’s start with 1up I mean 600 bucks for 3 games 🙄 that take around 25 to 30 mins to beat… then what? Sits in a corner and collect’s dust… I will say bravo 👏 to 1up at least it’s the arcade port… Now to Iircade build quality is the best really impressed… although the iircade is more of a multi cab the dragons 🐉 lair version is unfortunately not the arcade port… it’s hard for me to recommend Iircade atm seems they continue to pump indies and shovelware non stop on the system…. Really hope they secure some solid titles soon… if I had to recommend a arcade get a extreme home arcade mega Cade puts all these cabinet’s to shame… or get a Legends Ultimate with coin ops

To me it's a pass and crazy just to get it for looks when i already have the IIRCADE. That is just a waste of money if you have the IIRCADE already.
I think the A1up looks nice and price isn't to bad etcetera etcetera etcetera and if I ever see it for $399 I would get etcetera etcetera etcetera and I do like the looks of the new iiRcade etcetera etcetera etcetera and what you get with that might make the dif for some etcetera etcetera etcetera ......hahahhahah .....Thx PDubs

Bro, I love your channel and as a child of the 80's i'm all about the arcade feel. Dragons Lair and Space Ace are homeruns as far as nostalgia goes. However, I can't no longer recommend or promote Arcade1up. They are getting ridiculous as far as pricing goes. (Terminator 2 was the final nail in the coffin!) After preordering amd shelling out hard earned cash for Killer Instinct, they went and announced the PRO version which pissed me off to no end. I broke everything down price wise, it's not a stretch to say that A1UP is raping the customers price wise as the profit margins on these cabinets are insane.
Since they don't include a way usually to add more games. (Like Atgames) Wifi is hit or miss. Man, I hate to say it but I am done with A1UP. They have gotten to greedy. Not to mention releasing the same games on different skinned cabinets several times over, A1UP is really screwing over their customers. The cabs look better quality than they actually are. The controls are junk. I love the nostagic feelings but i'm going to stick with Atgames from now on.
Too bad as I was really looking forward to Dragons Lair. I can't and shouldn't have to justify the ridiculous prices from A1UP. I'm a disappointed fan.

I wouldn't pay $20 for that "micro experience". And I certainly wouldn't pay $170 for a dust collector. If I want to play games on my 65" computer monitor, I buy them through Steam. If I want an arcade experience, I buy the 3/4 scale home versions.
They're mostly collectibles lol, relax. You CAN play the game on it, but it's not like anyone is going to have a serious DL session on it.
Bought the New Wave version and getting the arcade1up version. Love the look but wish they kept the bigger marquee. Getting the Space Invaders iircade version. It looks great.

I bought the Arcade 1up Dragons Lair. I've been waiting for this ever since I bought my first Arcade 1up. I do have a MFL iiRcade, but I have to have this cabinet in my arcade.

Hey Pdubs!! So here's my 2cent worth....and this is only my personal opinion. I love to hate this game. It's got one of thr best Attract Mode displays and I have it running often on my ALU. But the game play is so lackluster that I rarely actually play it for more than a minute or two. It's like Voltron...I love that cartoon, in memory, but I can't stand it as an adult...hence the cult classic nature of this game and thr love to hate it approach.

The iircade cab just looks too bland for my game rooms. I realize it has other features that some people will like but I think the A1Up cab looks much better.
Bland? The original cab is bland, i would call what they did around the entire cab anything BUT bland. The A1Up uses the original art and aside from the control deck and marquee it looks bland.
None for me- I just don’t play for more 5 mins at a time, so it is not worth it for me.

Although for £5 each I also got them for the iPad

Pdubs i fell victim and immediately bought when I got the email saying its onsale. I have been a fan since arcade release. I recall having a line around me when playing cause my brother taught me how to beat it. I hv had so many versions frm COMODORE, NINTENDO, GAMEBOY, XBOX, PS3, DVD, BLURAY, REPLICADE. When does it end? Im putting my foot down aftr this 🤣

@@goofyfoot390 no way would I get an original LASERDISC game with all the problems they had with the players. But I have ao many good memories of Laserdisc games. Especially DLAir and SpaceAce an CliffHangar as well as Firefox and MadDogMcCree 1&2
While the iiRcade looks nice, I just can't get into the design of the cab, I'm all about the authenticity in replicating a real arcade experience.

IR Who, no thanks screen is bigger cabinet is ugly. Arcade 1up is what I remember a kid. I don't remember ever looking at the score board when playing this in the arcade or even having leader boards or WIFI. Lol
To each his own but I will go with what serves my memory the most.

Arcade1up hands down. Iircade cabinets just look goofy and really are just multicades. Most of us have already built or bought a multicade so why would we want another? At least the Arcade1ups look like the real cabinet so fit in well with a basement arcade theme and don’t forget the scoreboard which iircade does not have. If you don’t have a multicade and done need nostalgia cabinet, go for iircade. If you are like the rest of us trying to relive our childhood, go for the Arcade1up! At least you will hear the attract mode while playing your other Arcade1ups!
This game is garbage🗑 and I don't see the replay factor here🤷♂️I would call it a paper weight maybe more of a carpet weight😁
I'm sorry, but Dragon's Lair is an ass game... I just don't care about any of these at all. It was amazing for what it was when it was released because they tricked you into thinking you were actually "playing" a game with amazing cartoon graphics, but it's just not good. It's bad, real bad. I could just watch the laserdisc rip and get about as much out of it as I would playing the actual game.
iircade is for me all the way at this point. Quality issues this last year has moved 1up to the bottom of our list in this household. Yep they can give me pretty furniture but can we play and enjoy without issues? after what we have seen lately the answer sadly Is “No to 1up until they improve and earn my money” Iircade all day … if you asked me this last year this I would been the other way around🥲
