      Prior to a semi-recent update, turning off defender was mandatory to install Atlas. This was changed after the community asked for it, because windows is horrifically insecure otherwise

      2:26 the installer requires you to disable Defender (as it may interfere with the installation process). It should probably ask the user after install if they want to re-enable Defender.

      The installer requires you to disable defender (the option doesn't effect that), what the option does is it allows you to renable it after installing.
      I showed the option off because it is the main tweak that will make atlas faster than say CTT's tool, and is also very dangerous for security. I was curious how much of an impact it would have.

    Ok, so you just downloaded shady "valorant hack" to show us how disabled by you Windows Defender doesn't work, because it's disabled? And you recomended other tool for similiar purpose, only because it's you used it few times and this tool didn't break your computer? I hope you also used Atlas without disabling the antivirus, and also have any experience. Running an unknown script in powershell with (but also without) permissions is just as dangerous as the installation process you showed at the beginning.

    • @EricParker
      @EricParker  2 месяца назад +37

      I didn't have a more well disguised sample on hand. I just wanted to quickly find somethign to showcase dangers of running without AV.
      On the script argument, you are correct, although one difference is Chris Titus' script does not require the temporary disabling of defender (at the beginning). If you fully disable defender and run a program as administrator it can do absolutely anything. You should always read any script before running if it's from an untrusted source.

    Hi, AtlasOS owner and developer here. Updates should work fine. The error was likely caused by the malware shutting down Windows Update's services. About UAC with secure desktop, UAC is easily bypassable on administrator accounts regardless, so secure desktop isn't really too functional for security. Defender, mitigations, automatic updates, and much more are all togglable post-install in the Atlas folder on the desktop. We have documentation on this, so users are be able to make Atlas as secure as stock Windows.

    You say that AtlasOS is insecure, but you disabled the thing that makes it secure? If you kept it on the recommended setting to keep Windows Defender, then Defender would have caught the malware (assuming Defender knew it was malware to begin with, and if it didn't then a normal Windows machine could also be infected as well). Chris Titus WinUtil is fine, I've used it, but it's just a bunch of random scripts put together instead of a playbook which is all json and easier to tell what actually happens in the process

I don't think it is valid excuse to show It's a bad mod. AME Wizard recommends you to disable security in first just because Windows does not allow you to do modding its settings that is why we need to disable security so it doesn't interfere our mod installation. You also even turn off AU, I don't think it is valid problem. Also, If you go in Atlas>Security you will have the option to re-enable the security features. Dude, do you even know how AME Wizard works?? Ok, I get it you are saying that disabling WD and installing after that it gets broken right??
      Now hear my reason, AME Wizard IS required to disable WD that's because WIndows does not allow it enhance it tries to block the modding.
      At first what you do is disable right and it detects if it is activated or not? You clicked next and you see the configure button you clicked it and disabled Windows Defender after that blah blah installed it and saw that Windows Defender is gone now what would you do? Will you blame on Atlas or yourself to disabling the Windows Defender in the configure section. Atlas OS playbook literally asked you to choose the one you like. It just do its thing. You choose the one he would do the one you asked for. Now, what would you do and this guy reasoning invalid with no proof. Even disabling AU and literally just blamed on AtlasOS. He even said that UAC prompt does not come out. Just go to search type UAC and reset the options to get the prompt. your reasoning is not also valid. AME Wizard just do its thing what the user asked for. Not to completely destroy your computer as like you are saying it has its brain.

    I had atlas os for a little and it was good. I liked the look and feel of the os and I never had any issues with the anti virus stuff. I was able to turn back on stuff like auto updates later and I just used malware bytes. Windows defender doesn’t like when an app changes system files so it needs to be off for the start. What he did which was not the right move was telling atlas os to disable defender at 2:56 which he didn’t have to do. That option is only there if you have your own antivirus and it even says that keeping the antivirus is recommended.

If you are using cheats, atlas breaks many things. if a person is using shady valorant cheats (not known to be legit in the community) then they themselves are already screwing them selves up. Im not necessarily saying I disagree with you but I think many of the points your making don't align with atlas's targeted use case. Overall great video but I do disagree with alot of your points. This is why you dualboot, so you have one OS for pure gaming, that's stripped from almost everything like Defender and such, and other Windows thats for everything else.
    Also another thing is, when you are dualbooting, you have option to disable SSDs, so if lets say you have 2 physical SATA3 SSDs, A and B, and lets say A is your stripped windows, and B is bloated[default] one. You can disable specific SATA port that your B Windows is running on, which means if you get compromised while playing on your stripped OS, you won't be affected, your main SSD [B] will not get compromised, and then once you decide to go back from stripped OS to main, you can turn off the SSD thats your stripped OS on, and by doing this, you can have best of both worlds.

    AtlasOS doesn't delete windows defender and gives users option to disable/enable anytime. I manually deleted defender with another tool. Windows Updates just crap. I never use it, always delete it completely. It always install someting I dont want, always breaks some tweaks, always breaks drivers, and always breaks windows itself. Some day I was using pure vanilla win10 without any tweak and a new update came out. I installed it, rebooted the pc, and windows just broke itself. I never tried everything I know to fix it but didn't work and I had to reinstall windows >:(

    • @Baalaaxa
      @Baalaaxa Месяц назад

      @ecartman71 You've no idea what you're talking about, do you?
      Yeah, you can easily break your OS with a typo or a misconfiged script. That happens. And you can usually also pretty easily recover from that manually, or by repairing or re-installing the system. By the way, if you still see a desktop with a trash bin, that's not remotely what "bricked" means. Bricked means it's FUBAR; won't work, won't start, can't even fix it. Like messing up a chip with a wrong firmware, or burning a chip with overvoltage, etc. That's pretty difficult to even accomplish with modern PCs, unless you're a total tool... or a professional.
      And "this pile of shit" actually does improve performance compared to the vanilla Windows experience. It cuts running background processes by a half, disables a lot of unnecessary fluff, frees up a lot of RAM, and reduces the overall system footprint, freeing up resources for gaming etc. Yes, it disables drivers, so what? I've often manually disabled device drivers I do not want to use, because why not? Just because you type it in ALL CAPS doesn't make it worse, lol. And yes, Atlas adds not just a few, but a lot of tweaks, and yes, you can also do most of them manually. But that is really tedious and time-consuming process, and I can guarantee you'll end up just messing something up, and reinstalling.
      So is Atlas perfect? No, of course not, it comes with some upsides and some downsides. Should you install it if you're worried about security or don't know what you're doing? Probably not. You should probably stick to what you know better, dabbling with playdough and eating poop.
