We have uneven ground and were losing chickens to predators reaching or even digging under. I bolted hardware cloth to 4 sides as a skirt. The sides are lifted temporarily during moving. This has cut our losses to zero. We only move by hand.
So cool to see someone at the beginning of they’re RUclips Journey! All the power to you guys! I Love what your doing. I can’t wait to be in your shoes one day Brother! Being in the Bay Area CA. I want to make a move somewhere with my daughters and start a better life. I look forward to seeing more videos and being inspired.🙏🏽🤠
This is a good idea. My stupid birds keep getting their feet stuck while im pulling and i have to stop and go around back to free them. Luckily im pulling mine by hand so I don't injure any. One got a scrape on its leg once but didn't even bleed.
Nice! I’ve also made a modification but haven’t but it out yet. My field is not perfectly flat so I get sick about every 4 inches. But I hate it anyway because chickens get run over almost every day
Needless modification, and waste of resources. Joel uses something like a box truck. It lifts the cage up slightly when he uses that to move his tractors. No chickens get caught underneath.
The reasons they’re in the back is because of your four wheeler. Much easier to move the quieter it is. Maybe put the four wheeler at the back while you pull it😂
Why not just move it slowly by hand, instead of super fast with a four wheeler? Chickens are dumb but if you just go slowly you wouldn't run them over.
Too easy for predators to get in. You need a stationary coop with a concrete barrier going down several feet and also probably a foot up from the ground.
The whole purpose is a mobile coop. Some folks use electrified netting around the chicken tractor area to thwart predators, but also the daily moves help keep chicken stink from attracting predators. The chicken's feed is supplemented by bugs and forage on the ground, and the fresh grass reduces fecal contamination.
Not impressed. All I see is a city slicker that thinks he is country. I do love that more people are realizing that they are government slaves and starting their own homestead... I just don't understand why everyone feels they have to post things like this.. Its not new... You really think nobody innovative has done this on their farm?
Nice modification! I love the spirit of ingenuity in any form

You can use a crank and wheel system, its lifted when mobile, otherwise resting on the ground.

Smart idea for sure. But I feel like you wouldn't lose any by hand moving them instead of yanking them with a 4 wheeler.
Great idea
Predator buffet
That’s good stuff. New subscriber.
That's a great idea.
I thought you were suppose to move those by hand, for the good healthy exercise. Also, the engine scares the chickens...
Oh wow! This is cool! We're building an A-Frame chicken tractor soon. One I can walk in. Ima keep this mod in mind though!
Look into the Suscovich style tractor.
thats because you didn't make a perch for them. that is not being-honoring.
Why not put the rubber tarp on the inside so they don't sneak out...just a thought??
Have you had any problems with predators getting in this way?
I was gonna ask the same question ⁉️
To much shit to deal just to move it.. do u have the wire running across like Joel’s?.. maybe slow down.. great way to get raccoons inside

Smart
Good job!
Smart!!
Joel walks it to new spot no trackter moving too fast.
Yes sir get after it
Why is a chicken tractor needed? And is the a way to build to avoid rats snakes and other predators?

Is this guy off the hay day advert
You ran over the chicks bc you move it to fast, the rubber mat just allows predators in and out.
That’s amazing! But can a fox , possum or raccoon get under there and eat the chickens?
It would help keep predators from just going under it too

Sweet brother!! Thanks for the idea!!
This is a great upgrade! I've broke too many legs.
I dig it
Genius
Great idea!
Will that work for meat rabbits?
There are some tractor ideas out there for meat rabbits.
Good idea
Nice job!!
How many bird per tractor do you run also that rubber is awesome why dont they try to get away is it the downward pressure or something?
Makes sense. That thing must be heavy though
Haha. Nice.
I like that

Yes and no, predators won't get in if the rubber was just extended fencing and he didn't raise it up 3inches lol

DUDE!!! I WAS JUST COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM!!! DONE, IM DOI IT TOMORROW. AWESOME
