she wasnt even big when she did this this was pre wicked and yes she made a name for herself in rent but not enough to be hored for her name. she is an amazing charismatic performer and she has a beautiful voice she must be doing something right with the fame she has now. im not gonna lie and say shes the best singer ever but she has talent!
omglolwhatever um as much as I love Sherie (mostly in Last Five Years), she doesn't even really belt in this song, as she mainly just tends to fall back on her mix... I do say she has a very strong mix though.
It's a Pop-Rock musical based on the Verdi Opera of the same name. It tells the story of a Nubian Princess who becomes a slave for the Egyptians. She falls for an Egyptian soldier (who is already engaged to the Pharaoh's daughter). Leads to a complicated forbidden romance and does NOT end Happily Ever After!!
Love Idina but why is she literally just holding two notes and then sloppily riffing in the middle of the song? Anyone can hold a note. It's not that exciting and if you're going to riff, plan it out and make sure it's on point. Don't just make it up on the spot. Some people can do that but whatever she did didn't sound good. I like Sherie's version too but Idina's has more sassafras which is really needed for this part.
Idina sounds like she's screaming her way through this song. This role will forever belong to Sherie Rene Scott. She's a better actress and brings a lot more sass to Amneris in this number. Not to mention the fact her version sounds SO much healthier! Idina is pushing for these notes and it really sounds frankly unpleasant. I'd rather have an Amneris who performs consistently like Sherie, than an Amneris who presses for notes and is hit-or-miss when it comes to melodic accuracy.
You do have to admit (though) that when Idina hits every note, she becomes pretty much uncomparable. She has such unique vocals and such great stage presence nobody can truly copy. I agree it isn't advocated to have hit-or-miss performances, but I love how Idina makes each new fresh with new ideas (that don't drastically change the song, the show's plot, or the characters themselves).
I just only wish I could've seen this performance of Idina as Amneris.. seems since it was her last show, it really was a great close to her performances in Aida.
Well all I really HAVE to do is breathe and later die. Lol. But I honestly don't care for Idina's vocals and I don't find them that awesome. I guess I just prefer cleaner, and more precise, controlled performances. Just a preference.
