    Man, is crazy I got this recommendation. I basically hit a kind of a life crisis rn. I mean, nothing reaaally bad, I am exaggerating of course but last year I had the chance to go to Japan for the 3rd time but this time, I went alone. Been studying Japanese for 2 years and this was my first time alone there (Before I had a GF who lived there and translated everything). I had such a great time, such a great moment, that now I have been thinking VERY seriously if I should move to Japan.
    I never had this dream of moving to Japan, I am actually an Immigrant here in Canada already, so it would be my 2nd time moving countries. But man would be lying if I didn't say that that last trip made a dent in my life and now I have been seriously thinking about it.
    I can speak Japanese but no way I am still at a working level proficiency. But I can communicate. I am a software dev that have been in the industry close to 10 years. So seeing this video reaaaaaally makes me question what do I wanna do, stay here with what I have built or move to Japan.

      Yeah, life can get kinda tough randomly. 2020 onwards has been kinda hard but here we are. There are a few questions I have, would it be ok to contact you to ask a few questions? I completely understand if is something you rather not though, I am just trying to figure out if moving there is something worth pursuing.

    Thanks for making this video! I really appreciate your effort to share information about this topic.
    I'm about to graduate with a Bs. Computer Science degree in February. I have JLPT N3 and I'm pretty decent in speaking and listening. But, I have no actual work experience except the projects that I created in my 4 years of Uni. I have experience with multiple languages (C/C++, C#, Java, Dart, html/css, and Python, etc.). Would it be possible for me to get employment in Japan in Software or Game development, being a resident of a third world country like Pakistan? (I've never travelled abroad)
    P.S. Is there anything you would recommend that would help me increase my chances?

    Damn, I probably need to learn as a Dev at this rate.. I went through IT course, and Cookery course in Australia and now I'm still here in Sydney.. it's always become my goal to live in Japan.
    Got tips or suggestions what should I focus on first? My Japanese probably still N5, but I can understand most of the time with my listening skill.
    Anyway, great content 👍🏻 I've been looking for this kind of information for long

    • @captainlennysub
      @captainlennysub  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi friend!
      Learning Japanese will give you most bang for the buck. Definitely recommend being a dev because your skillset will be useful literally anywhere in the world.
      I can do a longer video but basically, find a community where you can constantly listen and speak, write Japanese to get better. Aim for N1, and with some tech skills you will be a unicorn.
      By the way, I filmed this video in Melbourne and I was in Sydney just 3 weeks ago! Absolutely loved Australia. I'm actually considering to relocate there for 1-2 years in the future haha.

    Hi! Do you think mid-career switchers are desirable there in Japan? I'm an aspiring web dev in my mid-30s with no commercial dev experience (yet) but with 13 years of IT support experience and have worked in a few Japanese companies in Singapore - currently in a Japanese bank.
    My Japanese proficiency still needs alot of work though 😅 though I've been immersing myself in Japan culture nearly my entire life.
    BTW, I immediately subbed when saw your post on Sora's channel 😁

    • @captainlennysub
      @captainlennysub  5 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the sub! mid-career switch is more common in japan nowadays and there are also agencies helping out with that! I think with your experience it will be much easier if you can get your Japanese up to JLPT N3! I'll push out a new video today!

    • @captainlennysub

  • @ShaneMaesenko

    Hello, I came here from your comment on Sora's video.
    I've been in Japan for about 7 years now as an English teacher and have N3 (well, more like N2.5 but that jump is rough!). I've been looking into moving to dev work and get certifications in my downtime while I ride my current contract a couple more years until I can get PR.
    What certs, programs, courses, etc. can you recommend in your experience that would be useful for me to pickup to transition into IT and Dev field in Japan?

    • @captainlennysub
      @captainlennysub  3 месяца назад +1

      Hello, thank you for your comment. If you can, find boot camp or programs that can help you get started. Le Wagon is something famous that I’ve seen and they look legit.
      I do not recommend certificates for beginners at all.
      Certificates are only useful if you want to get into cloud and infra, but as a beginner you are very unlikely.
      Instead, learn basics (get good at one language - Javascript or Python recommended) , build what you like (the MOST important piece), and prepare for interviews.
      Just grasping the fundamentals can take you 6 months or so.
      Hopefully I’ll discuss about this in the future videos

    Would you say a college or University degree is essential when working in IT in Japan. I am currently a service desk agent in Australia without a degree, but I am doing various online courses while I work. Would these be enough?

    • @captainlennysub
      @captainlennysub  4 месяца назад +1

      Hello there!
      Not a must but I think a lot of companies still look for college graduates unless you have some industry experience.
      Check out my other video where I talk about how going to school in Japan is also an option.
      If you could leverage your service desk agent skill and move towards dev, it consultant etc. I think you will have higher chance. But ultimately see what aligns with you!

    what would you recommend i do to get a job as a graduate. i graduated last summer in comp sci and maths and have been struggling to find employment in the UK (my home country) and so i am interested in getting a job in japan. i noticed pretty much all the job postings state that you must have a certain number of years work experience in the industry but, as i am a graduate, i have 0 years of industrial experience so i'm not sure how to proceed.
