I literally shouted out loud when I saw that she finished- it is amazing, monumental, inspirational, wonderful... (like any other finish is, but, for a woman to do what WAS considered impossible for all but a very few men... wow.) This is an accomplishment that is truly without paralell- The only things that possibly surpass this, maybe, is the (frankly, nuts) solo sail circumnavigations, and, maybe even some of the one-off accomplishments in the age of discovery- Anmussen and Scott, or maybe (but not quite) like Shackleton's 'Endurance' experience... THAT is how amazing that I find this. I sent this info to my young niece, who says it's inspiring. (How cool is that?)
Awesome episode guys. Amazing to hear Joe's respect for his competitors come through despite his obvious disappointment. Predicting Joe + 18 hours 45 minutes at Cocodona! Sorry Finn but that would still be an amazing race! (would put you in the top 10 of Joe's 2022 race)
A community run; the sight of an adult jumping up and down on the spot in excitement in the videos as Jasmin came into their view however not the camera view, the two children running up the hill in excitement, one turning to check and all that followed. Jasmins husband shout yes and slapping his hands. Being following it for eighteen or so years; and the Iditarod Invitational has also concluded in Nome. Till next year. Great discussion.
It was a Norman Rockwell moment, the runner forcing herself up the hill arms flailing, the look of total exhaustion in her face, the time ticking down- just seconds remaining, dogs running and barking, kids running excited, adults yelling, an old bearded flannel shirted man standing watch by a yellow gate in charge of it all quietly praying to witness greatness by ready to oversee possible defeat, cameras and phones witnessing it all -Oh Norman it was history made in America that would’ve garnered you another classic masterpiece.
Her arms were not “flailing.” She was actually holding her poles. Shit on a cracker, too much bullshit here looking to find some fault with Jasmin Paris.
1:01:00 Naak has protein and BCAAs built into their products for those curious! I love their waffles and their drink mix in half portions but they have some other products too Great pod!
Does it matter which direction a person comes into the finish from if they have all their pages? (Could a runner collect pages out of order and still get credit for a loop, if they come in from the correct direction, etc?) Either way, G.R. is a Barkley LEGEND... He may be a lot more famous vis-a-vis Barkley than many finishers. I wish he'd eventually get a finish.
I think to be consistent, ecological, and true to its ethos, that Barkely Marathons will have to end, and soon. I listened to this whole podcast, and loved it.
Barkley was designed to be impossible, "for idiots", but it has now been cracked. Therefore the original purpose of the race has been surpassed. At the very least, it should now be seen as Barkley 2.0, post-Laz. @@runsingletrack
You have to wonder what they'll add next year..or if they can count on weather..no one finishes this year IMO if there's a few hours of bad weather on the course
I mean, it worked out for you this time to see it, but are you telling me within like 5-10 mins of the end of the race, you opted to wander away to send pics out instead of being at the yellow gate just in case Jasmin heroically made it?
Good question! I should have clarified - the place I positioned myself to post (near the visitor center) was wear I could also have first glimpse of runners (like Jasmin leaving the woods and hopping out onto the road)..it's what made the first sight of her possible, actually!
Wow, those initial, dismissive comments about Jasmin Paris were really gross. Two misogynistic assholes, belittling a woman’s accomplishment. What a treat. Even after they tried to recover and walk back their bigotry, it’s too little too late. Boy, bye.
Wow, fantastic, spine-tingling accounts of Jasmin Paris' race. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I saw a clip of Laz prodding back photographers with a stick after Jasmin finished
hahahaha would not surprise me..he's legendary like that
As an armchair ultra fan very much appreciated the discussion and analysis in this video.
Thanks for watching! Joe's a great add to the program

It’s extremely cool. Your niece sounds remarkable!
@@laurainthehaute918
Yeah, she's pretty cool. Only a matter of time until I can't keep up.
Has no idea Laz was stepping down as a race director. End of an era.
It won’t ever be the same 💔
@@robynvandergrift8360 It's bigger than when Murray Walker retired as F1 commentator, never the same since
Oh no! Laz _is_ Barkley.
Nice, I just listened to your podcaster on my run today, and heard about this video which is now posted!
Awesome! Thank you!
0:29 "Running on Fumes" would be a pretty cool name for an ultra-distance running podcast, "Singletrack" is pretty cool too though ;)

Unfortunately, I think you are probably correct on the projected difference at Cocodona hahaha..we shall see..thanks for watching as always
Did not cover!
Great discussion guys 👍🏃♂️🏃♂️
Appreciate ya! Thanks for watching

"adults jumping up and down on the spot in excitment"..best description

For an in person pod, the audio sounds great!
Hey, thanks! Credit to Scott Hickenlooper
Epic recap of an EPIC event!
Appreciate ya
Where can I find this start image with the five finishers, please?

Great pod!
Yes! Great point
Great recap, big fan of Joe, very fun show.
Joe is the best..hoping we can get him back soon
At least one of those kids you mentioned was John Kelly’s son.
Gary Robbins’ finish was tragic but even if he had been 6 seconds faster, he was still off course so would not have finished.
Yah came in from the wrong direction

@@bholdr----0Yes. It’s not a free for all in between books, you still have to follow the course, it’s just not marked.
@@bholdr----0 yes, he was off course.
How did I miss this news!😢
Glad you were able to tune in here!

What was the Teatime joke?
Fegyveresi heroic finish was not evenly split. His 2012 splits were: L1 - 9:07, L2 - 10:54, L3 - 12:20, L4 - 14:05, L5 - 13:15.

If Jasmin is not paraded thru the streets of London and made a Dame I will scream
Hahaha I would love that

Was Joe still digging briars out of his eyeballs?
hahahahaha
Same course with wet weather and nobody finishes!

Can you send me a time stamp? I’m not sure what you’re referring to here. We only have the utmost respect for Jasmin and consider her a hero!
I cant help notice all the sick runners yet they drink coke
And eat fake noodles its stupid
These runners should only be
Only consuming real food
