I made my own lime paint and painted my entire house for $50-60. It was very hard work and I would have hired someone and/or purchased this if I was a bit richer but this material is amazing whether you make it yourself or use this brand. I transformed my home with natural material to let the brick breathe like these guys said, I did the more opaque style and I’m obsessed, my neighbors come over just to talk about it. I hand painted with masonry brush for reference. 10/10
WHAAAT, STONE CAN CATCH ON FIRE? I know what you mean. I plan on trying this soon and I will certainly post my results, I'm a carpenter & mason by trade for 35 years.
TY for this great info! We're tired of the red brick that we've had on our home exterior for over 50 yrs. We've decided to use this product. Am excited to see the results.
I just did limewash indoors and had a hell of a time with it!! 1. The brick is indoors and you can't pressure wash inside a house. So I had to clean the bricks individually with a spray bottle and a rag. Very tedious! Also, you can't just use a big scrub brush with a bucket and clean it like you would a floor or shower because the brick absorbs the dirt that you're scrubbing off if you don't wipe it off right away, and when it absorbs the dirt, it leaves a murky white haze, which wouldn't have been an issue if I was only going for painting it white and wasn't going for the rustic partially revealed brick look. 2. It sets up super fast so it's hard to get it to spray off if you don't do it within the first few minutes of application. 3. With doing it indoors, I made a heck of a mess! Even with putting down plastic and taping it up onto the brick, It caused damage to my hardwood floors, to the point that floor boards popped up. 4. Some bricks were chalky and were bleeding through the limewash and causing the white to turn yellow like pee tinged yellow... yuck! I'm guessing the primer could have helped the situation? However, I didn't have any on hand and had no idea that it existed or that I needed it. 5. Issue with where to remove and the method of doing the removal. Spraying it caused it to run down onto the other brick, and with the brick bleeding, the runs were either yellow or pink from the orange and red brick. I ended up having to leave those bricks mostly exposed, otherwise they would have looked gross, which kinda defeated the look I was going for. 6. The main issue is that I'm inexperienced and had no idea what the hell I was doing. It seemed to work out well for so many others in the youtube videos, but I guess they had good brick to work with in the first place. In my situation it was a brick wall from a chimney. I spent over a full week on 2 small brick walls as all of this caused issues that took so much time to undo, redo, and figure out. Was a very aggravating process!! Do you guys ever run into these kind of issues??????
The German Keim Mineral Paint has been around since 1878. There are documented cases of their mineral paint lasting over 100 years on German buildings.
Limewash is great and I've used it alot, not the same as what is often referred to as a mineral paint which is a different product... also amazed you'd put your fingers in the lime mix and not wash it off straight away as it eats skin as it's highly alkaline. Not suitable for contact unless you want bleeding fingers.
Five years ago I just bought a bag of hydrated lime for less than $15 and mixed with water to lime wash my home. Only used about half the bag for an entire ranch style home. Why are people paying all this money for a commercial product?
I'm trying to find a solution to updating an ugly slate floor and was initially hoping the limewash product would be the answer but I understand it's not recommended for horizontal applications. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Romabio was founded in 2009. In Italy, where the Classico Limewash is made, they have been using the same formula for hundreds of years on buildings all over southern Europe.
If your brick house has already been painted white, for several decades, and is starting to chip or peel away, can you use the limewash over it? Or does the paint have to be removed first?
Hey guys, I’m in a 5 year old home located in Fort Worth. Since I want a more modern/ contemporary look I would select the Masonry flat. What is the color called for a bright white color? Also what is the name of the primer that will allow me to cover downspouts etc. Thanks!
@@That1Painter Curious, why not on horizontal surfaces such as a concrete patio? Mine is covered and only used 4 - 5 months out of the year; would that still be problematic?
You probably have had this answered, but crazy as it sounds, Amazon. Also, it’s worth it to invest in the good Romabio brushes. Those are available at Home Depot. My husband and I applied this to our house four years ago and have had no problems at all. If I remember correctly for the big spaces we just used scrub brushes. We’re getting ready to apply this to a house we just bought and are remodeling. We’re going to use the Masonry Flat this time. But even the regular lime wash was very opaque. We didn’t want the brick to show through and it doesn’t.
You're not going to want to seal it. The main purpose of lime or white washing brick is to allow it to "breathe" as it naturally would. That's why you hear people getting so uptight when talking about painting over brick. Your run-of-the-mill latex paint locks in moisture and causes premature deterioration. I'm no expert, but hope this helps you.
Its Type K plaster. Not sold in stores. The name of it being "Dolomite" lime is very misleading. It is NOT made with dolomite stone. Just the region the LIME is mined from is called Dolomite (Italy). Using dolomite stone would make it more like type S plaster.
@@That1Painter I already did a test area. It goes on and at first looks like flat paint, but does get a bit dusty stone looking over a week or so time.
@@nazielieme you can scrape it off, and if you rub a wet sponge to it repeatedly, it will slowly come off...also depending on what you covered with it. I have in on the floor bricks and its holding up well. There isnt much traffic on it, but I have sprayed it with the hose and it doesnt come off. IF you want to seal it, you should know there are limits, as sealing it will keep concrete, or brick etc from breathing. You can use some impregnating sealers on it that make it anhydrous, and they last a year or so, with sun exposure. If you dont mind sealing it, you can also paint it. That too will seal and is more permanent. Limewash is not just paint, it is antimicrobial.

I might be getting this primer for my garage door though since it’s wood and I’m trying to figure out how to get it to match lol
Would love to know how you made your own? Cost is a issue for me. I want to rid the dark brick fireplace and brighten it up.

Otherwise I’ll let you know if I upload it to RUclips might take me a while due to being horrible at filming lol

How do you know how long it lasts if it's only been around a few years.
It has recently been popularized in the US in the last few years. It has been used In Ancient Egypt and Rome, So it has been around a long time.

There is the option to use Romabios primer but that would be a case by case situation.

Can it be used on white brick facade (1976). Pressure washing doesn’t bring facade back to original look. .
yes

a good masonry brush. But if you decide to use a sprayer, be sure to use the right tip size and back brush it for the best adherence and coverage.
Brush

Can you use this on walls?
They have a mineral wash for that yes
You should tell people that once it's on walls it will come right off with wet sponge. Do you not offer a sealer??
they have a plaster you can do on walls. It is meant for brick and stone only
Can a cement driveway get lime washed to strengthen the cement?
No it is not meant for horizontal surfaces or to be walked on

those it work on Stucco?
Yes it does

Romabios website has a lot of great info on how to do the dilution.
Dilute 50-75% water. For 50%, it would be 1 part limewash to 1/2 part water (i.e. 1 gallon limewash to 1/2 gallon water)
If that thing has any sand in it please don’t even mention the sprayer, any sand in the sprayer will destroy the cylinder,

It can only be applied to unsealed, absorbent brick or stone.
