It's funny (pun not intended). He actually never directly attacks you and he doesn't harm you on contact. But he still somehow finds his way to be the hardest boss in the game.

I feel as if Paper Mario TTYD definitely influenced some of its musical instruments off from FM synth, if not directly from it (See Glitzville and listen to the bells), so I can definitely see where you're getting to.
It depends on your playstyle. He has less health but a much smaller hitbox in the US, while in Japan he can be hit anywhere on his ear instead of only dead-center but also has twice as much health. This also changes which powerup (wider range or more damage) is more useful against him...

I found the Gatekeeper to be the more frustrating boss mainly because of how unpredictable and fast she was.

I'd have to say that this theme encapsulates what Treasure was all about more than any other.

I used to draw Twin Freaks and variations all over my notebooks in middle school.
This boss intimidated me as a kid but I eventually learned the patterns and kicked his ass without taking damage. I still do it, for FUN.

This is the only boss that's easier in the US version. If you're good enough, you can kill him before you reach the first screen flipper!
