Melaka, also known as Malacca, is a historic state in Malaysia on the southwestern coast of the Malay Peninsula. Conquered by the Portuguese in 1511, then the Dutch in 1641, and the British in 1824, Melaka’s diverse heritage is evident in its architecture, culture, and cuisine. Notable attractions include the A Famosa fortress, Jonker Street, and the Melaka Sultanate Palace. In 2008, Melaka was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, blending its rich history with modern development.
