Actually in Part 1 when Rhys hadn't yet been revealed to be the killer, I'd kinda started to suspect that maybe RHYS was Joe's new love interest! I mean, Joe seemed to be so taken with him, he liked the way Rhys spoke, the things he said and he was always so attentive. Of course it was all his obsession as we learn later on but as of then, I felt like they were building it up to make Rhys Joe's new unlucky love obsession.

Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of the split personality thing at first since it’s kind of a tired and campy trope, but the more I thought about it the more I started to like in the context of the last three seasons. Since the very beginning Joe has not only been in serious denial of who he really is, but he’s been increasingly struggling to maintain that denial as the series has gone on. So it culminating in him developing an entire split personality does feel like a natural continuation of what he’s been doing for the whole series.

There's a scene where Rhys asks Joe "why are we still seperate"? Meaning, why is Joe still in denial of the evil part of himself (treating it as a separate entity). So I think at the end, when Joe looks at his reflection and sees Rhys's face, it symbolizes that they have finally become one and has embraced the dark side of himself as Himself.

Joe is officially at his worst. He has fully accepted his killer side, and he now has the means to get away with anything. He is so wealthy and protected that he can kill for fun and pay people to cover it up. He went from being the eat the rich killer to being the rich. He has become the type of person who he always resented, and he loves it. At this point he has nowhere else to go but down, and I truly believe that justice will be served next season. Hopefully by marienne and ellie, and they can clear Nadia's name while they are at it.

To me, the entire message of this show is a socio-political commentary about us as an audience are so easily tricked by the kindness of some people, even though they truly are monsters.
It shows how utterly superficial the world is, that so many people will look past at a guy like Joe, a seemingly normal and non threatening man, who turns out to be an absolute monster.
Despite him being an actually terrible person, Joe is right a lot about the world. He's very in touch with how people act and how they lie to themselves, but is ironically unaware that he does it himself.
Him embracing who he really is works as an actual finale, and also works as a set up for season 5. You is defintely one of my favorite shows.

Season 4 was absolutely brilliant, especially the second part. It finally delivers what they were struggling to do in the first 3 seasons. All this time they made us feel bad about Joe and there was some excuse for all the kills but now they've finally shown us who Joe really is. Framing innocent Nadia, in the end, was the last straw. Joe is a bad guy. And he accepts that as well. He wants to kill because he likes it. He's a full-blown psychopath. Would love to see what they would do with him in season 5 but even if we don't get another season, I think they wrapped it perfectly.

I think that it’s genius how they ended it. From season 1-3 Joe has been trying to convince himself and by extension us the audience that he’s not a bad person but now, finally, in the end he recognizes that he’s a monster and he has decided to embrace his true self fully rather than running from it. Now that the audience can see clearly that he’s a monster we’ll be rooting from his downfall. Now he’s embracing his true self and he has been given more power and money to avoid the consequences of his own actions. Now he’s just like the horrible powerful people that he originally despised. In the interview he did with his gf at the end of the final episode, when the interviewer asked him about them being a power couple and them helping the world he conveniently said that SHE is going to do good, he didn’t say WE. Which seems to me that despite telling her he was going to change he doesn’t plan to.

It’s about the “good” guy, Dr. Jekyll, creating a chemical mask for himself to slip into to perform heinous acts without bearing the consequences of them. All the blame would go to “Mr. Hyde”, even though no personality exists: it’s all Dr. Jekyll. I know it was technically just a near-drowning (well he did die for a sec) and maybe he was able to get discharged quickly but then he would have had to find out that Nadia was poking about, somehow separate himself from Kate, change his clothes etc… it seemed a bit rushed at the end and I kinda took me away from what was really happening and the meaning behind it.

Nadia could have told so many people about the cage and rescued Marianne and got Joe caught. At that point the only thing that saved Joe was plot armor
C)Why did Nadia decide to collect evidence and tell someone when it was already too late
D)Why did Kate fall for Joe at all? She didn't even seem to like him that much
E)Dawn. She was also shown as taking pictures of Joe and looking at him suspiciously like a journalist. There was never a scene where they showed her to be specifically obsessed with Phoebe.

For B, first of all, neither Marianne nor Nadia knew that Joe didn’t know where she was. So her going to the police for info she didn’t even know wouldn’t have made sense. And the reason why Marianne didn’t want to go to the police is because she was convinced that he’ll just escape and fine her again. That the police will have this evidence against him but wouldn’t matter cuz he’ll run away. And after he runs away he’ll just find her again and kidnap her or kill her. B) if she went to the cops with no evidence it was joe, he would be on police radar but not under custody. So joe would do what he does best and run away/create new identity.
      C. The evidence on the murder of the Rhys would actually put joe behind bars immediately and was the only chance of stopping joe.
      D. Kate was mad at joe a few times in season, pushing him away at times but Kate fell in love because joe kept telling her that he didn’t judge her from her past and that she’s a good person. Add a couple sex scenes and yeah, they’re in love
      E. There were several mentions of Phoebe having a stalker in news papers and phoebes own feelings that she was being watched. It was only hinted that was the case, until Dawn pretended to be a servant and kidnapped her for the sole purpose of protecting her… which is pretty obsessive.
      F. The show did changed a bit. Starting off as a romance/killer thriller on the surface. But there was always hints and elements to the story about joe’s psyche. hence why we saw his childhood, abuse from Mooney/ his mother. The fact that he killed his mothers bf to protect her. The fact that dr.Nicky told Joe that were 2 Joe Goldbergs. 1 that wants to love and another who is broken and do bad things. Season 1-3 made it seem like he only killed out of necessity to live and that he’s a decent person but that’s not the true joe… There just diving deeper into the characters mind and little bit less of the romantic killing, since that alone would get sorta stale/predictable over 4-5 seasons

There is no plausible explanation anyone could ever tell me that would convince me that this ending could've actually happened. I just have so many issues with the unbreakable plot armor joe has been accumulating progressively as each season goes on.
Surely one detective out there would at least be able to put together that joe was closely involved in the crimes, deaths and disappearances of candace, beck, love, malcom, simon, gemma, delilah, forty, peach, rhys, nadia and paco; has the show also forgotten that sherry and cary are still alive and were attacked by him (and love)? A sloppy "i made my helpless husband do it" in a suicide note doesn't change the fact he was complicit in kidnapping them. Theo also saw on the cameras that he put natalie's body in the car.
A ferret could put that all together and make a solid case against him oh but since he's left those places and has big fancy lawyers who can clean any name offscreen he's fine.

But when Joe tried to kill him (by committing suicide)it made Rhys realise that they could never join forces because Joe insists on being ‘good’ so he took over Joe’s body permanently. S1 was us rationalizing him killing Beck, yes hes a stalker but in the end she cheated on him with Dr Nicky even after everything she and Joe went through. S2 was about even though he believes he does everything for love (the emotion not the character) he couldn't fathom that love thinks the same way about her killing people for Joe. S3 was honestly great for me. He hated love because he saw what he was trying to deny himself. That he kills cuz he can which she accepted. Season 5 should go the “heavy rain” game route, introduce a second main character like a detective or FBI agent that takes down Joel once in for all. Season 5 could take place several years later, where in the UK, society fears of this “jack the ripper” like serial killer. Joe has now killed so many people throughout the years because he enjoys it. But he is untouchable because he is married to Kate, who has money and power. Joe has embraced who he really is, a serial killer who enjoys killing. This season should bring an end to joe once in for all. Could make for some great television.

That's why he didn't hesitate to coldly kill Edward and frame Nadia for it, just to not ruin his chance with Kate who knows what kind of man he is, and the life that goes with it (he could have run away like he did before when refusing to kill) that's why he said "this time I'm using all of me" while doing it. Good Joe always appeared to be a victim of circumstances which was why it was somehow easier (for the audience)to connect with him and made him look redeemable (despite the murders). I would have liked it better for the plot if Joe's suicide attempt had actually been successful. The scene with him and the hallucinated Rhys on the bridge, their entire conversation touched me very much. Joe realizing all the terrible things he has done, but not managing to change and therefore committing suicide fits very well into the story and the show would have had a tragic but coherent ending. But then he is saved and you think he has changed, but then he has not. He murders Eddie and frames Nadia for it, although Kate, as his new girlfriend, could have easily gotten rid of the evidence Nadia found in Joe's apartment, just as she restored Joe's identity through her father's contacts and a lot of money. It makes no sense that Joe admits to his atrocities and even wants to commit suicide to stop them for good but then continues murdering. But killing Joe would have meant that the fourth season would be the last and since the show is still pretty successful the producers probably want to release a fifth season so they let Joe live.

My season 5 theory is that Joe hasn’t ‘finally accepted his dark side’. He’s like a pendulum swinging back and forth constantly out of balance. The brighter his light side shines the darker a shadow it casts. So I think he will have a mental passenger following him around all season and it will be his ‘good’ side this time. Foes from the past will return to try and sabotage him and he’ll realise he was blacking out in season 5 and leaving clues for them that led to his own downfall. His entire schtick is self sabotage. I’m hoping Love will play his ‘good’ mental passenger and spend all season tearing down Kate and pointing out that she’s a bad person (oh, it’s fine when she does it, but you couldn’t love me when I killed someone). They already set Love up as being a passenger inside of his head that is opposed to his darker nature.
Then the biggest cliff hanger at the end would be him in court facing trial for his crimes, he looks out at the stands and sees Love sitting in the courtroom staring at him. He thinks it’s still her in his head, but then she stands up, starts interacting with people (excuse me, thank you etc) and realises that wasn’t in his head and Love actually survived and came to his trial, she smiles, winks and walks out.
In my head-canon this would be the perfect way for the show to end.

Hell simple, when she poisoned the knife handle, and knowing Joe’s past, she could have also had an antidote that she took when she left the room to attend to Henry. I mean hell she researched and worked with the poison and plants to make sure the dosage was right. Her and Joe are one and the same, just differences in impulse control. He gets complacent about himself doing bad things and then when his "love" turns around and forgives him for the abridged version of the truth then he gets confident and calm about the bad things that he does. @@Midearth87 I love your thought process but here's a question. Isn't Kate's dad or now Kate herself is more powerful than Love's dad? And I would think that kate would be in the process of bring Henry over to London or at least making sure that the couple (I forgot their names in season 3) would either be moved to somewhere safe or at least be sent money to continue to take care of henry. But I do love what you said!

another major issue for Joe in season 5 will be that: since Joe has reintegrated his obsessive and killing side "Rhys" and so, will have the urge to kill in the future and won't be able to repress it unless he dissociates again, and since Kate has come to terms with his past as a killer, but only because Joe told him it was over, that he was like another person (which Kate sees as similar to his own past, working for his father) and Kate told Joe that from now they will "keep each other up", how will "full Joe" deal with his murderous side in the present? He'll probably have to hide it from Kate like he did with his previous love interests...unless Kate turns out to be like Quinn and okay with it (but this time, since Joe accepted himself, he may accept that Kate is as deranged as him)

The ending didn't make sense. After so many incidents of unintended deaths, Joe FINALLY realizes that to prevent any more unintended deaths he had to commit suicide. And he FOLLOWS through, but of course in keeping with the show's consistent meta-level humor, it turns out that what he intends (suicide in this case) is not what happened. BUT the fact that he gave a sincere attempt at suicide shows that he *had* turned a new leaf! So much so that he was ready to let Kate turn him in. But Kate made him an offer that was just too emotionally enticing for him to turn down: a chance at love *and* not living a lie *and* a plausible plan to prevent future unintended deaths (she would try to keep him good; he'd do the same for her). So he accepted the offer.
BUT THAT'S when his character inexplicably becomes evil for no good reason. Instead of trying to be good (but perhaps occasionally slipping and hopefully she being there to course-correct him), he just becomes full-on evil, DESTROYING all the emotional stakes and giant epiphany that lead up to him attempting suicide in the first place. What a bunch of baloney.

I wonder if he truly told EVERYTHING to Kate. If she really knows absolutely everything and yet still chooses to be with him then she is just as bad as him. I mean, it didn't really make sense to me that she was beating herself up over the whole causing children to die of cancer thing. She HATED herself for it and yet she heard how Joe killed ALL those people and didn't feel deterred at all? Like maybe he told her the same thing he told everyone else, that he killed Love because she was mentally ill and she tried to kill him. And she probably thinks he killed her dad because her dad threatened him or something. I don't know how he would have twisted the other murders in his favor. Unless he maybe left out some of the murders and she doesn't know of all of them? If he told her straight up I locked up two women in a cage and held them there for long periods of time before killing them, and I also stalked them and killed anyone who got in my way and she ignored all that... She is also awful. I mean over all 4 seasons he has killed 16 people total. If the guy I liked confessed that to me, I don't care what memories we had together and what sweet words we shared, I would be appalled. I would have called the police and reported him. Overall I loved this season. A lot of plot twists I didn't see coming. I just wonder what Kate's personality is truly. Is she really that wicked that she could cover for Joe like that? They never showed Joe explaining his story to her so we don't know what exactly he told her. I guess that's up to us to imagine.

Thank you for explaining the last few episodes of season 4. To me they were confusing and boring.
The show went on for at least 2 seasons too long, became increasingly far fetched, juvenile and frankly cruel, with the pretend justification of murder for love. The show is at heart a click baiter using every trick (sex & violence) to get more eyeballs. Joe would have to be superman with special strength & xray powers to clean up his & Love's murders spotlessly & get away with it every time. Of course he always gets away with it. If not , the series would end. As for the very unsatisfying ending of season 4, it really shows a lack of imagination & moral intention by the writers, or more probably it's a set-up for season 5 which i hope never occurs. If it does. Joe will probably kill Kate & the gruesome pattern continues

Possible plot lines for seson 5:
1- Lockwood family conflict: Kate have 6 brothers, and they could fight her over the henritance.
2- Love's family: Season 4 started with the hired killer of the Quinn family letting Joe go, so they pretty much hate him.
3- Joe trying to have his son back.
4- Nadia, Marienne and others teaming up to f*ck up Joe: Joe have already killed so many, and have had unfairly imprisoned at least 2 people: Beck's doctor and Dawn. So he is a man of many enemies. A lawyer, specially a female one, representing those people, could be very interesting.

I really didn’t like the plot twist that Joe was the Eat the Rich Killer and that he was hallucinating the whole time. In past seasons, they’ve had times where something messed with Joe’s lucidness, like when he hits his head in a car accident in season 1 or when he’s on drugs in season 2. There was nothing to explain why he would be having such real hallucinations for such a long time.
It felt like a cop-out. It’s the same dissatisfying feeling of experiencing a whole story and then being told at the end, “it was all a dream.” And it also doesn’t even make Joe seem fully responsible because he wasn’t in control of his own actions.
I see this happen a lot with tv shows when they become more plot driven instead of character driven. They have the characters doing things that are out of character for the sake of the plot. Like someone else said, why would they have Joe put in so much effort to change and be better (even to the point he was willing to commit suicide) just to have him go back to being killer Joe? They did it because the writers wanted him to be the main villain, but it didn’t make sense in relation to his character and who he was trying to be.

I liked how it ended and it was about time he finally broke out of our (the audience's) sympathy. I never would have expected the whodunit path they took in the first part to actually turn into one of the biggest character growths in the show. The whole billionaire thing kinda put me off to be honest, but hey whatever at least they brought it back to NYC and Joe is back at that bookstore. I also think Rhys' actor Ed Speleers was super enjoyable this role.
I don't believe that Joe has wiped his name clean. The cop who found his piss in Peach's mansion is probably still after him, Love's father sent a hired assassin to kill him, so I doubt he'll let it slide once he learns Joe is still alive.
I hope they build on Joe's relationship with Mr Mooney in season 5 and I hope they show us what happened to Paco and Ellie and what they will do once they find out everything about Joe. It'd be a rather fitting end for him if he gets caught for all he's done and be put back in a cage, this time an actual prison cell.
Still, I believe Season 1 is the best so far. It was more down to earth, more character oriented, scarier and more unpredictable. I also think that out of all the girls Joe has dated, beck feels like the realest and best written. She did actually feel like a real person that you would meet in your everyday life.
Can't wait for season 5! Do you guys think it will be the last?
