Samantha Morton Gives JUICY Details About The Serpent Queen..
Welcome back to Fantasy World. In the opening titles for Samantha Morton’s new drama series The Serpent Queen, she sits on a throne in a lavishly embroidered, puff-sleeved, McQueen-esque black gown, firmly in character as Catherine de’ Medici. Soon after, snakes emerge from beneath the hem of her dress as a thunderous electric guitar rift erupts: The serpent queen, in all her anarchic glory, has arrived.
As an actor, Morton is having something of a moment this year. Besides the debut of The Serpent Queen this month on Starz, she also has plum roles in two festival favorites: as Zelda Perkins, Harvey Weinstein’s ex-assistant in the #MeToo drama She Said opposite Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan; and as Brendan Fraser’s ex-wife in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, which is already receiving Oscar buzz. “It’s just generally a really great caliber of people to be giving your time to, so I feel really chuffed,” she says, with typical modesty, of her upcoming slate of projects.
