    The interior is one of it's best selling points if you ask me, I prefer rugged and basic, easy to repair than the high tech garbage dash I have in my bmw which will soon be traded in for a 90 :-) Nice clear vocals on your vid, I like that.

    Apart from the superior diesel option and Defenders better payload, I love my JK 2dr soft top. Tons of room, and being a jeep, you get to run around half naked. 😄

    Hmmph.It seems that the approach to expedition preparation is how much kit can be bolted on. Not so sure.

    I always applaud people who take Land Rovers overlanding, I work at a Land Rover dealership and I would not want to take one of these 100km away from any parts store.

    • @Alexdiesel00
      @Alexdiesel00  6 лет назад +7

      +gwot Really Wow I mean that’s quite bad coming from someone who works at a dealership. Well I have owned many defenders among other vehicles to use in remote locations including with the military. Your comment surprises me as I have never been let down to a point I couldn’t get to safety and or home. Even that has never happened. Worst problem I had was prop shaft UJ failure and super leaky steering box on an early 110. In fact the first time I was actually stuck to a point we needed rescue was by a 6month old Japanese 4x4 with a clutch at only 15000 miles. That same vehicle went on to use 4 clutches in just over 70,000 miles.

      I can't speak for defenders because we only got maybe 10 here in Canada in the 80s 90s before it got pulled out for whatever reason. Working at a dealership also means i get to see all the problem cars, albeit a small percentage of total vehicles sold it still scares me enough to not have a peace of mind if i'm going anywhere remote. On a weekly basis we get at least 1 new car towed back with less than 500km for various reasons, mainly electrical, which is near impossible to patch up and limp home. I would bet the more mechanical defender would probably be my choice as well, the new stuff now is all controlled electronically, and if any one system fails, it shuts the whole car down and you NEED a factory computer to program everything.
      I've also worked at multiple other brands, and there are a few brands I would buy to trust it to get me home. Land rover just pays the most... cuz we make a killing off fixing them. a lot of them.
      If it's a defect on the clutch, then yeah, that sucks. but most bad clutches are still able to get you home. I'm also willing to bet either he doesn't know how to drive stick, or he's just doing a lot of technical slow terrains, which will eat up clutches.

      @Alexdiesel00  6 лет назад +1

      +gwot ahh I see fair enough yeah some of the newer hi tech electrical would make me worry too lol. My Defender is a TD5 and that’s too many electronics as it is in my book but it’s still doable for me.
      Yeah mate the clutch I had done the first 15000 in and it just one day dropped the pedal to the floor and that was it. Tried to rev change but the terrain would not allow it. The company said it was a faulty clutch set, maybe we was unlucky and got more than one faulty one!? Anyway all good but I can vouch for the defender as I have had many variations and even series vehicles.
      Cheers for watching oh and take a look at the Walk Around video of my truck... 👍

      unreliable and expensive to fix. not something I would take out to the middle of nowhere just to get stranded. It's hard for me to even argue about proper maintenance, because enough of them break down before 5,000km, and a lot of suspension bushings are weak, so that's constant replacement. I've never looked aftermarket, but maybe there are stronger bushings available. and they are not easy cars to work on, especially out in the wild. it's a shame, because they are one of the best, if not, the best off road vehicles out there. and not to mention they are extremely expensive in my book, I can't even afford to get one even if i wanted to.

    Why did you remove THE PARA Badge?
    Great wee 90. When I left the Paras we took a petrol engined series 2A from Glasgow to Delhi, India in 1974 and it never missed a beat!
    The worst place in the whole journey was without a doubt what was then south of Yugoslavia. Pakistan was not as bad probably as we had a good idea what to expect having traveled a lot of the world by then!
    Keep up your great videos.

    Interesting, you mention an HF radio on board. Is this unit on commercial frequencies or are you a Ham Radio Operator? As for the vents under the windscreen, I am surprised no one has ever engineered a filter system for them to cut some of the dust ingestion. This is one vehicle I have had my sights on for quite some time. It is easy to service and maintain compared to military Hummer. If there wasn't such a pain in the arse I would have assembled one from scratch on a frame from one of the two suppliers of galvanized frames in the UK. Most of the other parts you can buy from breakers there as well. Biggest problem is the VIN for a self build. In the USA it is not such a big problem but living in Greece, well these A holes here have their issues, the only way around it is with a mighty large bribe under the table which I refuse to do.
    Very nice build, Happy and Safe Travels!

      Curious, how much $ for a used Defender in Greece? Big bucks in the US.
