Happy thanksgiving y'all, thanks for the laughs over the years
You should read the Captain Planet comics Marvel made them
30:00 Might be the best quip Sal has ever said. Just "Yeah, that plot would makes sense so of course this comic isn't going to do it"
That quip could apply many comics (Most Modern Bendis, Frank Millar, Tom Taylor's Son of Kal-el & Its injustice tie-in, Tom King's Bane, some Spider-Man Psyhco tragedies, Wonder Woman plot holes, etc.)
Sal is the editor comic books need but won't hire because he'd make too much sense.
"Azrael, when we said you weren't sharp enough to be Batman, we just meant that you're dumb."
All "edge and no point" but more edge and less point.
"WHAT! it's a yes or no question mother fucker" 😂 Ethan is popping off this episode
Knightsend will complete the trilogy, the comic pop trifecta, only rivaled by masterpieces like the lord of the rings and Star Wars.
Wow, even better than the 50 Shades trilogy...
I read that as “Knight Send” lmao I’m so dumb
They kinda did Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, & Final Crisis. But I get it.
I was just about to say the same thing lol… even though Ive read it’d still be fun to hear them talk about it
I like how Ethan seems physically incapable of remembering who Harold is 😂😂😂
Harold is like ForgetMeNot, but only for Ethan
Wait a minute, this has a Bloodlines tie in? 10/10 no notes.
EVERYTHING is a Bloodline tie-in!!
That bloodlines tie in was the first comic I ever got
Ben puts the book down
Sal: we need that
Ben:AAAAAHHHHH
Jean-Paul looking like he cares more for the gears' stats than how it looks.
How are you everywhere I go!?
@@Amuro1Xbecause you two have crossover interests, and/or watch some of the same content creators? 🤔😆
Great now all of us look a little crazier for having this in common with him!😅
Commenting to boost this gem of a comment.
When I was younger, I always thought Jean-Paul Valley‘s Batman was a robot. He’s just so teched up and you can’t see him, he looks like Robocop with Bat wings lol
But Robocop is sleek and dare I say low-key?
@ Sal: You may find it interesting that Alan Grant used to have a sensory deprivation tank in his house, which he often sought out to meditate to get his head clear for writing. This is why sensory deprivation tanks often pop up as an element in stories written by him, including this one.
😮😮😮😮😮😮!
I gotta wonder how much something like that costs.
As a wannabe writer with adhd and autism, yeah that's a thing.
THEY'RE DOING IT!!
KNIGHTFALL IS MY FAVORITE BATMAN THING
AND COMIC-POP IS MY FAVORITE RUclips THING
sorry, got a little excited there
Finally, another episode on everyone's favorite lunatic futuristic firefighter
And there was much rejoicing.
Can't wait for Hush 2 to reintroduce Shondra Kinsolving as Hush II
They already have female Hush: Shush.
@@robertlehto4667😂😂😂😂
20:56 - 21:30 After some quick digging, I found that in "Robin Hood's Garland", Robin Hood's men were described as wearing lincon green while he himself wore scarlet red.
"It's a yes or no question mother fucker"! God I love this channel you guys are awesome!
The part of "KnightQuest" (OMG I hate that title) that I actually love and is laugh out loud funny is the scene where the towering vision of Saint Dumas explains to Jean-Paul why he sucks, triggering Jean-Paul to attempt to attack the hallucination - but of course, all of Jean-Paul's attack go right through Saint Dumas - then zoom out to Robin on a neighboring rooftop watching the whole thing through a pair of binoculars, going "WTF is he doing?"
...but yeah, great video and I'm very much looking forward to the KnightsEnd video (especially the training sequence on the freeway)!
Jesus Christ. I heard "Just tap that, my son." and I lost it! I'm bawling over here!
16:20
Nobody:
Bruce Wayne: I’m a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude!
Finally, the return of Knightfall… which can only mean the return of señor Crivelli!
While I was a burgeoning comics reader wanting to break into Batman, I heard from all kinds of lists that Knightfall was one of the most important stories. However, I wound up starting with the Knightsquest trade. To say I was confused was an understatement. Tallyman? The Trigger Twins? Joe Public? Joker with a rat tail?!
OMG Sal you're so right that Bane training Bruce to take on Jean-Paul would have been awesome. Very Rocky III.
Given that the Batman of Zur-en-Arrh is a thing, I'd like to think there's another part of the cave where Bruce has kept a version of the Knightfall armor for some random contingency no one would think of.
I think he does, if I remember Detective Comics(Rebirth) as well as I think I do.
*"This is starting to sound like a bad comic book plot!"* *"it get's worse."*
You guys have been a warm and safe place on RUclips since my teens. I was 14 when I started watching TV Little House. I'm 24 now, and I still love laughing alongside you, and am still excited whenever you tackle a book I either loved or forgetten.
Great. You reminded Joshua Williamson of the Trigger Twins. They're coming now!
HAROLD MENTIONED 🎉🎉
The fact that I had to go on the internet and rewind this video a few times to fully understand the convolution that is knightfall definitely help me understand the 90s comic bubble🤣
This just makes the Dark Multiverse: Knightfall world even more depressing. Bruce gets healed, falls in love, decides he wants to stop being Batman, trains to get back into shape to TAKE BACK his title as Batman, fights Jean-Paul Valley, and then gets his back broken AGAIN. Jean-Paul just looses his mind even more and takes parts off of Bruce for 30 YEARS. Any possibility for Bruce to ever have a happy life is taken away from some fanatic he barley knew. Jean-Paul Valley most likely went after anyone that Bruce had any kind of feelings for and killed them, and killed all of his protégé who fought him, and all the people who helped him in Gotham. Meaning Gotham had no one to protect it from Jean-Paul's madness.
A good substitute for knight quest is the trade paperback Robin vol 3 Solo. Instead of focusing on Jean Paul you will see more of what Tim was doing and it leads into Knights End.
Ethan's reaction to Clayface 3 is priceless, moments like these I look forward to every new episode.
I always saw „Superior Spider-Man“ as the better Knightquest. „The Search“ was fun, though, all in all.
Jean-Paul Valley and Jason Todd should team up sometime, I bet they’d have a lot of common ground to bond over
And yet, you know he would eventually get on Jason's nerves lol
I feel he has more in common with Cassandra Cain
Jean-Paul, Jason, Cassandra, Damian, and Helena Bertaneli should have a support group.
@@TupocalypseShakur Iirc they interacted during Tynion's Detective
Man I unironically love Knightsend, it's such a satisfying and fun read. You're right about Knightsquest being the most boring part, outside of Jean Paul and Bane's fight at the end lol
Jean Paul was an unworthy Batman, but he did at least protect Bruce from having to adopt an embarrassing 90’s design, so he wasn’t ALL bad
I wouldn't be so sure of that. During the late 90s his cape had these weird ass shoulder spikes. Still not as 90s as AzBats by a LONG shot.
I agree, we even got a cool all black batman suit after when bruce came back.
@@andrewbarone3781those shoulder spikes were cool as hell!
@@andrewbarone3781 The shoulder spikes looked great in _Arkham Asylum,_ but that's basically just a dream
It's like DC knew that the 90s would only last so long, and the 90s Batman could be buried.
I love Knightquest the Crusade! Jean Paul is so much fun to watch, he just keeps unraveling with each passing issue until he becomes utterly insane. Never clicked on a video faster.
Batman gets his mojo back
The first time I actually learned what fixed Batman's back was when i listened to the Knightfall Audio Drama, which adapted everything from Jean-Paul's first meeting with Batman to the final battle with Azbat, and has a really good cast and pacing (even has Michael Gough as Alfred). I found it incredibly goofy, but when I went back to my Knightquest Volume to see how they DIDN'T include Batman actually getting his back fixed? That SUCKED.
I couldn't BE more grateful for the KNIGHTQUEST episode. My favorite kind: where the story is 90's insanity and you guys just get a field day
I can't wait for Batman: Hushfall II: The Hushening.
Batman into the hushverse
This was my first introduction to Batman, my library had a big book that was just all of Knight Quest and I remember thinking this was the peak of Superheroes
What?!?! These were literally some of the very first comics I bought with my Xmas money!
YEESS. I was just rewatching the knightfall redux. Finally the sequel is here.
Still the Azrael Bat-Suit is my favourite and the dopest of all time
The other great thing about Knight Quest is it shows how important the Batman's supporting cast is. Azrael going on about no Robins, and only using the cave not having a secret identity, talking to ghosts, no detective skills. The new villain every issue approach. All business Batman gets super boring and repetitive there needs to be fun characters and stuff other than the mission.
WB, Frank Miller & Dan Didio: “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.”
Was so busy getting ready for thanksgiving I almost forgot about my favorite show. So stoked for part 2 of the knightfall saga
48:38 This was the most foreboding "Then" I've ever heard.
27:40 I desperately need a compilation of all the times the guesses made on the couch turn out to be real. It always leads to the best reactions
I remember as a kid they kinda buried the search as it was not made to be important until the last issue and the revelation that Sondra had magic healing abilities was bullshit.
Perfect timing; I’m saving this for when I’m cooking Thanksgiving dinner. 😊
A Knightquest video from ComicPop! FINALLY something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving besides lame stuff like friends and family.
LET'S GO!
Lol I LOVE Knightquest. I find the whole era of Knightquest fascinating and watching Jean Paul's descent into madness compelling.
Robin's series directly spins out of the issue where Jean Paul acosts him and kicks him out of the cave.
I feel like lots of people blame King for Alfred being gone but wasn’t it supposed to be Clayface and editorial changed it to actually being Alfred?
Scarecrow I thought. You can even see gas around Bane in that scene
Had a full work day today and came home to watch this, worth every minute of it
Excited to hear you guys talk about knightsend, a high mess with really inspired ending
I'm so happy you guys are doing Knightquest. That makes me real excited for Knightsend
Learning about shandra is mind blowing 😂😂😂
“This is something else. This is Knightquest.” Felt like one of the sickest burns I’ve ever heard.
Bro, I was literally rewatching the knightfall and prodigal episodes. This is perfect timing!
After just listening to the knight fall audio book (which is way better) I really needed this
I was just thinking the other day when you guys would continue the Knightfall trilogy! Much love as always, long live Comicpop! ❤️❤️❤️
I was just watching the Knightfall episode the other day! What timing!
This was great. Thanks guys
Basically the nerd Super Bowl
I'm thankful for such a great thumbnail title. That was well thought. Happy Thanksgiving comicpop
I never finished reading the Knightfall saga in comics, but I did read the novelization version and in that one Shondra used so much of her power to heal Bruce that she reverted back to a child
Sending Thanks and love this Thanksgiving to the Comic Pop crew
watching torment and knightquest b2b with macfarlane and then quesadas art in mind and keeping the 90s batman and spiderman situation is very cool
Its a Thanksgiving miracle more comic pop happy Thanksgiving giving guys.
I am actually glad that you you guys are covering this lol
If any of you are in England and get a chance to drive down the A14 (horrible road) in Cambridgeshire, you will be thrilled to see the sign to… Hemingford Grey - well it made me smile when I moved down here!
Ooh Batman knight quest lets go baby 😊
54:21 Barbatos was using his influence to drive him into madness as punishment for taking the bat mantle away from his chosen wagon
Knightfall is actually brilliant commentary about violence in comics
How Bruce defeated John Paul Valley is almost poetic
Awesome episode.
And another reason why you should NEVER combine Batman with magic 🤦🏾♂️
Jean Paul ain't my Azrael anyway. Michael Lane all the way. 😂
Again great episode, best parts were added from Sal "You should tap that son" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Peak comedy 👌🏾
I've been waiting for this video!
Loved this episode! I can’t wait for Knightsend.
I have been waiting a whole year for this! Woohoo!!!!
This is an exciting day.
History will forever remember the day that this thing happened.
Yay.
In other news. I would LOVE it if you did the first 6 Hulk Issues in longform. I bet no one would be able to guess how the powers worked.
I'm reading an omnibus that includes the letters pages. Some of the letters are hilarious. "Get rid of that stupid kid, it was the kids fault he became the Hulk in the first place" and "Another thing that is remarkable about The HULK is the fact that nothing that happens in the whole story makes a bit of sense. Keep up the good work but if the Hulk ever goes soft, gets a girl friend, or makes any sense, I'm through with him"
The whiplash of emotions charging right through 1-6 all back to back, would be great.
The "It" reference got me. Now, that was something I shouldn't be reading when I was 15.
The caption said don't look it up so I didn't.
How bad is it?
@architeuthis3476 One of the worst things I've ever read. Stephen King at the top of his 90's cocaine-fueled powers.
@@vaggelisbaousis1756 Ooooooooooo. Ouch!
You guys should do Scott pilgrim! I’d love that
As someone pretty new to comics, Knightquest fascinates me.
People always talk about this period of Batman, and rightfully so. It’s pretty insane that there was a stretch of time where Jean-Paul Valley was “the guy Batman comics were about.” And while Knightfall is mainly about how that ended up happening, and Knight’s End is about getting “back to normal,” I was really interested to see what Knightquest was all about, since, at least in theory, this was supposedly the new status quo for Azreal Batman. And I rarely see any discourse about it, it usually is just handwaved as Jean-Paul being Batman “for a little while” until Bruce inevitably got better and took the mantle back.
But yeah, now I see why people don’t really talk about Knightquest, because really there isn’t much to say. Jean-Paul’s tenure as Batman oscillates from “mediocre” to “abysmal,” and his zealotry/insanity related to his Order just makes him feel like an unraveling madman rather than a competent hero or anti-hero.
It’s like the story is in this weird gray area where the authors already know that this is all temporary and going away eventually anyway, but they don’t want to “show their hand” and write the story in such a way that their intentions are clear.
Overall it’s interesting to me that, coming out of the whole Knightfall arc, Bane has endured as a staple Batman villain over the years, but Azreal doesn’t seem to have anywhere near the amount of reverence.
Holy crap! I never knew that was how Bats started walking again 😮
"How Batman got his legs back" 50:17
Yeah.... Dark Knight Rises version Bruce being able to walk again seems less bad now
Both are terrible
What are the odds, i was literally rewatching the fiest part of Knightfall just minutes ago
Batman and Bane running on the beach like Rocky and Apollo Creed is the image I have if they trained
Finally!!! That's the part I never understood was how Bruce healed his back! I thought the punching it back in place was bad enough in DKR, but this.... This is why its always glossed over...
That is an absolute TOME of book!
Pitch session: The Hood dies during the psionic attack. Azrael doesn't go crazy and is actually effective, except that he blacks out and wakes up in strange places with no memory. We find out that it was conditioning by The Order that gave him a split personality of Azrael and St Dumas and when he blacks out he dons the Azrael outfit to commit crimes. This leads to a "showdown" between Azrael Batman and "Azrael". Wayne Batman helps Azrael come to terms with his mental issues, merging the 2 personas back into the one true Azrael. Wayne stays as Gotham's Batman and Azrael goes to England to be the English Batman.
I actually started buying comics during this run, having only read from a library before this, so I have soft spot for it. Spotty drugstore distribution and being only 10 so could only get them so often but loved every issue I got even though I really couldn't follow what was going on at times. Was reading xmen and spider-man at the time too. How I stayed for the long run with comics shocks me, but I also can't hate the 90s it's my era
Joe Public is it? Whoa that brings back memories, I remembered he was suppose to be "Capital Eagle" from the anarky series but it got cancelled before the revealed.
This is my Super Bowl, ive been waiting for the crew to cover this book for years
50:39 He's right, don't look it up
Finally! More Knightfall!
Not gonna lie. I absolutely love Knightquest: The Crusade. As soon as I saw that suit in Batman 500, I wanted to see more of it in action as much as possible.
I read this entire thing as a kid and I don't remember a single thing but Azrael killing abattoir. Maybe skinny tax collector guy as well.
This is a top tier episode
1:12:21 I wonder if this was the writers saying 90s Image type characters have no personalities compared to classic ones.
Nice bullet logo sal looking sharp.
@6:12 it is interesting that they never have had Jean Paul seek a second chance. I honestly never considered it before but now it seems oddly inevitable.
That whole anecdote about Jean Paul coming back for a second chance during the batman reborn era would have been a really cool story. I'm not sure if he was dead at that point or not.
