Russell Crowe sure did a great job in "Cinderella Man" in replicating Braddock. Watching the actual fight here is fantastic. Thanks for loading these old clips.
Definitely! Also thought that the guy portraying Max Baer in the movie did a good job with Baer's mannerisms ie fight pose, putting his left hand on Braddock's head to set up for the right, and pulling up his own shorts
Braddock fought an incredibly skilled fight, consistently beating Baer to the punch, changing stances, getting inside. He had clearly studied Baer, knew what to do, and did it. Absolutely masterclass, and a deserving champion.

Accept that they unnecessary demonized a good man just for the sake making a movie. Max Bear was a really good human being. He lost because he was in depression because he had killed two men in ring prior to it and became a drunk after that filled with dispair paid bills of those families who got killed at his hands. He is a good human being. Its just that people died because of his game and he was that good

Look at "Jethro Bodine's" dad go!! Although boxing is dramatic in itself, it's just amazing how Hollywood can intensify the drama. This is great history!
After watching a few times I'm astonished to realize how little talent Max had. He needed a couple more years of amateur fights. He lacked most fundamentals.
Actually, he's very talented because he actually lacks basic boxing fundamentals but became a world boxing champion despite not being a boxer but a wrestler.
Just like most people online do, they jump to hasty conclusions and make their opinions known before doing any research on the matter. As with anything, it's important to learn history from all perspectives of those involved. By doing so, you are much more likely to be deemed as having any real knowledge of the topic.
He had power in his punches, lots of energy, and could take a punch. But no argument about fundamentals. My view is he showed his best against Carnera, who was slow, a bit clumsy, and despite great height had less reach. Braddock was quick, game, and determined.
I seen some odd comment saying how the 30s-40s were in black in white and at a lower fps that's why they look way less advanced and if they were in color with higher fps they would be more advanced Is that possible it can fix obsolete flaws and add better tech/fluid/timing/defense can adding color and higher fps manipulate footage so they would look as advanced as guys in 70s-90s?
Without a doubt it was a glorious win for James Braddock, but while trying to glorify it even more the movie "Cinderella Man" failed to do proper justice with Max Baer. This video revealed that, not just Baer was a great boxer but a true example of Sportsmanship. He was only 26 yo but maturity level is just amazing. Hats Off.

The depiction of Max Baer is wrong though. He was a good man and you can see them embracing at the end of the fight. He paid the collage fees for the children of the men he killed in the ring and felt horrible because of it. I understand a little bit of Hollywood story telling, but they depicted a good man very poorly

Max Baer was never the same after he was responsible for inflicting the second death of an opponent. Even Braddock, commented Baer was "too nice" to be heavyweight champion. It happens to most boxers if they cause a death of a opponent.

Baer needed distance to leverage his right hand. Braddock didn't allow it instead moving under Baer's punches and bulling his way inside and putting his head under Baer's chin. Great, great fight.
Great footage! I guy I used to work for always talked about Braddock affectionately ,he lived in north Bergen, nj and went through the depression like in the movie Cinderella Man. Braddock was one of the greatest boxers pound for pound of all time , guess I a little biased cause I m from the area ,take care, stay safe
Yeah Max Baer was a great guy in real life, but he was also terrifying, he was big, muscular, had more power than anyones seen before and couldn't be knocked out. He also had a explosive temper and killed 2 guys. There were times in this fight where he was aggressively coming at Braddock laughing!!!! Braddock had some balls of steel I'd shit myself personally
I gotta wonder if Baer threw this fight. He is nowhere near as aggressive here as he was with Schmelling and Carnera. Maybe Baer knew that Braddock was the morale boost that society needed and maybe just showed up to fight. He did a lot of clowning around and tried to make it look good. He also seemed to underestimate Braddock just enough to where he thought he could knock him out later on, but it wasn't to be. Nothing against Braddock, but Baer just didn't look like he was in it.
Baer waited until the 15th round to start fighting with any real desire and determination., That is not an approach that wins fights. Why wasn't he doing the same in the earlier rounds? Braddock earned the win.
No Max was just keeping aware of the no hitting below the waistline , ready to pull his shorts up past his chin, and Max had a good chin but he let J.J land to many.

There is NO WAY Max should have lost this fight by decision. He had the better and more powerful punches. James was much weaker and NEVER had Max in trouble. The movie “Cinderella Man” was great but the reality was, Max got screwed.
In case anyone is wondering, Max Baer had a son he named Max Baer Jr. who went on to become an actor. He Played Jethro Bodine inThe Beverly Hillbillies.
The commentator sounds very clear, contemporary and recent in relation to the sound quality of the rest of the film. Sure it’s original commentary? If so- remarkable sound quality!

In cinderella man, Baer was presented as a cold soulless prick, yet irl he fell to his knees crying when he learned one of his opponents had died from his fatal damage during the fight.
Braddock was a crafty old pro. He was good at using his head & a tough guy. And Baer wasn’t the prick that opie howard made him out to be in the movie.
When you see a movie based on real facts most of the times you can't check how close was it to the actual facts. Getting to watch the fight at the end of the movie and then seeing the actual game that took place all those decades ago it's really interesting.
The movie was portraying Bear as an asshole while he was really a nice and funny guy and Braddock appeared to be king of the head butt in real boxing life .
No surprise that the REAL fight was completely different than the Cinderella Man "hyped up" version. JJB was definitely not to be denied that night, but Baer looked like he didn't even train for this one, and was maybe gun shy with the right hand after killing one fighter in the ring, and possibly another. Regardless, JJB's amazing comeback run after hitting rock bottom in more ways than one, was legendary and super inspiring!

I agree. Baer was embarrassed by his ineffectiveness on Braddock after clowning and dismissing Braddock's ability. Got desperate at the end.
Its nice to see that after the fight there wasnt drama, both fighters shook hands and hugged, respectable fight.

Max just never took boxing too seriously. Except for the Carnera and Schmeling fights.

There is NO WAY Max should have lost this fight by decision. He had the better and more powerful punches. James was much weaker and NEVER had Max in trouble. The movie “Cinderella Man” was great but the reality was, Max got screwed.
Braddock really used his head as a weapon. Geez
Braddock's form was perfect.
Max seems to block punches with his face. Interesting technique.
The commentary is MODERN.
Who are they trying to kid ?
Love how they've added the replays...in slow motion...just like the available technology of 1935. (wink wink ;-))
Max would go on to have a son who became a double knot spy who could cypher real good.
And gradgiated 6th grade
Gary, He almost became a "brain surgeon"
walter sobchak He was best as a fry cook.
jeffrey lebowski And Ate a whole box of cereal for breakfast🤣😂🤣😂then swam in the. Ceeement pond🤣😂👍👍
Tec61, Yes, I remember the shameless product placement with the large box of Kelloggs corn flakes andJethro's monster size cereal bowl.
I can’t believe these guys used to fight 80 15 round fights, sometimes before they became champ. That’s just brutal
Can't see good
this audio has been added, this is not the way fights were called in the 1930's....
Thanks Einstein..
Sounds like Harry Carpenter
The men's voices back then sounded higher pitched then now. Like they were all tenors. Maybe it's the recording apparatus in use back then?
In case anyone is wondering, Max Baer had a son he named Max Baer Jr.
who went on to become an actor. He Played Jethro Bodine inThe Beverly Hillbillies.
The commentator sounds very clear, contemporary and recent in relation to the sound quality of the rest of the film. Sure it’s original commentary? If so- remarkable sound quality!

In cinderella man, Baer was presented as a cold soulless prick, yet irl he fell to his knees crying when he learned one of his opponents had died from his fatal damage during the fight.
The commentator audio sounds surprisingly good for 1935.
jakenastysnake it’s updated that is not the original commentary
Itachi Uchiha That would make more sense.
Great Fighters and amazing fight looked, what is power hits!
The actor who played Baer in CM sure had his technique and mannerisms down.
Braddock was a crafty old pro. He was good at using his head & a tough guy. And Baer wasn’t the prick that opie howard made him out to be in the movie.
Braddock was like the Seabiscuit of boxing in a time when men down and out needed a hero...
Just started... 2019... This is gonna be awesome.
When you see a movie based on real facts most of the times you can't check how close was it to the actual facts.
Getting to watch the fight at the end of the movie and then seeing the actual game that took place all those decades ago it's really interesting.
audio quality is amazing.
lol it's not authentic.
Cause it was around the 90s that was filmed. They put the commentary after the fact.
Why did the movie leave out the star of David on Baer's shorts?
igor stein well Baer was kind of the antagonist in the movie and a scumbag so it would have made Jews look bad
@@imamhussain9506 ... Your full of shit. You don't know what your talking about. Stunod.
They didn't leave it out but they made it a darker color. On the dark shorts you can only see it clearly in one quick scene.
The working man becomes Champion... Love it!!
He hit 52people hard and knocked them out without fear.. He got beat by the better man on the night. Nothing more, nothing less.
Great fight!
Why would you hate Max Baer? I do sincerely hope you're not basing this on his portrayal in Cinderella Man. In truth, Baer was a great guy.
Any friend of Lou Costello is ok in my book
The movie made Baer's performance in this fight look better than it actually was. He looked lethargic throughout and Braddock's jabs were relentless.
no its actually there you have to look closely, its really faded too
The star of david is definitely on his shorts in the movie.
two great heavyweights.
The movie was portraying Bear as an asshole while he was really a nice and funny guy and Braddock appeared to be king of the head butt in real boxing life .
True on that
No surprise that the REAL fight was completely different than the Cinderella Man "hyped up" version.

Baer was a great fighter and great champion
