    I agree with George that the three year time limit is a deal breaker.I used to use Elements and was quite happy with it as it was all I actually needed.But it became annoying when every three years the old version would suddenly stop so I switched to Affinity Photo.Affinity is a bit too much for what I need but it was cheaper and has life long upgrades.

Why is it so hard for these companies to just come up with something that is give and take, yet fair? I would not mind the three year subscription, but at least update the program for the next three years as well!!??? I am not sure what that would do with the pricing structure, PSE customer base is not going to pay much more than they currently do but I could see a small increase as a trade off perhaps?? I think I will probably just sit on this one till after Christmas and the New Years. By Feb/March they will be discounting it down another 20% or so, I can wait. By then the three year thing is not going to be as much of a big deal for me. I wonder if this decision has anything to do with the timing of when Windows 11 will be on all computers and Windows 10 will no longer be supported??? Perhaps the Windows 11 platform is going to require a major restructuring of how PSE operates!!???
    Thank you for the great update!

      Always good to wait for sales on PSE. The real problem at Adobe is that they just don't know who their PSE audience is. They think the audience is made up of people recently out of college with a kid or two who do a lot of social media. Acording to my experience here on RUclips the primary audience is retired or nearing retirement and with a fixed income. I am guessing they lost a lot of sales due to the pandemic and inflation. Does Afinity Photo edit in 8, 12, 0r 14 bits? PSE is limited to 8 bits (AFAIK). I have Afinity 1.2 (?) and PSE 2022 along with a waiting Windows 10 computer. I always shoot in RAW. Which should I install first? Or which should I install period? I should be able to get Bridge free, as I have several registered copies of PSE (13 & 15), installed and activated. PSE 15 handles all the RAW files from my "ancient" Nikon DSLRs (3xxx, 5xxx, & 7xxx series)

      Affinity Photo works natively in 16 bit mode. I prefer the Affinity Photo RAW editor to the PSE one. In Affinity Photo it is the Develop Persona. Bridge is much better than PSE Organizer. My favorite version of PSE was version 10. Little side note, the first PSE course I produced was for PSE 4. As far as my personal recommendations, if you are primarily a photographer than Affinity Photo is better. If you like doing the creative stuff then PSE is better, basically more filters and it runs a bit faster than AP. Except for PSE 2025 which seems slower to me than previous versions.

In 2024 and earlier there was no time limited license, you can use 2024 or earlier for as long as you like. Of course as always, if you want the upgrade you have to purchase the new version. I have much older versions of PSE that are still working fine. Don't bother contacting Adobe, their response is always to buy the new version. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. If you have any plugins installed remove those as well.

    I have PSE 2024. Will 2025 override 2024 so that I can no longer use 2024 in the event I don't like 2025?

    • @HTGPhoto
      @HTGPhoto  2 месяца назад

      No, 2025 is installed separately so you will have both. There is no real reason to upgrade from 2024 to 2025 unless you really like the new features.

    FWIW Kidz, I suspect Adobe is trying to wean people from the idea that PSE is a freestanding program, and nudge it into the subscription realm. The DVD version was discontinued as of PSE 2022. Charging say $5.00 to $8.00 a month, would give them the rationale for upping the price of Photoshop itself by a similar amount. Maybe I'm just paranoid. But then again, maybe I"m not.

      You are right, this is the first step towards a subscription based model for PSE.

    Thanks for covering the changes, George. I won't be buying Elements again and I will be moving to Affinity v2. Mediocre updates and I assume Adobe will move to annual subscriptions for Elements, 3 years being the starting point to rein in. No thanks

      I think you may be right. The 3 year time limit may be just a step on the road to full subscriptions since this basically is a 3 yearly subscription as opposed to the yearly subscription for PS.

    If you are old like me, you remember a time when PC's came with tons of software with lifetime licenses pre-installed. Dang, I miss those days. Nowadays you be lucky to have windows 10/11 home edition. Even office you must pay. Plus PC's are triple in price as well. Adobe has nice software, but they are super money hungry. Its a cringy company. And now with the software expiring? I thought I only worry about my milk and eggs expiring, not my PC software. I still cannot get over this subscription software, technically you do not own none of it. Its like a rental and an expensive one at that. If your in business, you can afford it, but most people on here and just regular folks that occasionally edit photos or videos. $60 a month is not economical. If you have a few software subscriptions, your paying $200-300 a month just to sit on weekends and play around, not counting the internet service and the PC itself. PC's are such a necessity as well.

      Hate to say it, but yes, I remember those days. I also remember going to Kinko's Copies to rent Macs by the hour to do my computer work since I couldn't afford the software. Back when Adobe Photoshop cost almost $1900. Even in the year 2000 it still cost $700 and almost $1000 for the Extended version.

      In the audio world, the plugin audio company Waves infamously tried an Adobe style move switching to subscription only model practically overnight (sending an "April The First" style e-mail - ironically, i think actually it was almost April - to their clients), and results - HUGE immediate backlash, people posting videos about how to replace the Waves stuff, etc. And like in a week or two, company apologized, offered huge discounts and went back to the previous pricing /i.e. the customer choice, either subscription, or not/. So customers have the power, and Adobe even after all these recent controversies, being exposed, sued, etc., still acting like that they are the BOSS, and we all are their b...s... just NO, NO. BIG NO NO.

    I’m using the 2023 version that I payed outright. This new version is not worth upgrading and having to pay for a subscription. It won’t be long before Adobe goes by way of the DoDo bird. Getting overly greedy will come back and bite you in the a$$. 👎

      This is not their only money grab. Starting in January their Adobe Photography plan with Photoshop and Lightroom goes up 50%. I am guessing that they have been losing money and are trying to get that back by raising prices a lot.
