Quilting has given me joy, and provided me with an outlet for being creative. Giving handmade gifts has always been a part of my life and quilts, well, I never thought I'd be giving them to all the family, friends and charity groups! After I retired following the deaths of my parents, I had no social life and needed a focus. It's ten years later and I am definitely a Focused Quilter!

Quilting has added a new realm of creativity to my life. I have always loved quilts, but, I didn't know anyone who quilted. I discovered a local quilt shop that offered classes and also sold machines built for quilting. I bought a Babylock Brilliant, took some beginning quilting classes to add to my sewing skill set, and I am off to the races. I am enjoying myself by making gifts for family, friends, and the added bonus of beautifying my home. Merry Christmas!

I was originally dragged kicking and screaming into the world of quilting by one of my roommates, but it has changed my life in several positive ways. First and foremost, I have met many, many wonderful people. I have also found it has stretched my creativity, more than any other "craft" I have been involved in. Quilting has helped me to learn to accept imperfections. I've always been a perfectionist and specifically try to approach my quilts with an easy attitude....using scraps to fill in when not having enough fabrics, leaving not too horrible mistakes knowing no one will know if I don't tell, etc. I find it frees my creativity and satisfaction. ❤

I have been heavily involved in Project Linus for many many years and recently retired. I got to be an integral part of giving 70,000 quilts/blankets to children. What a joy for so many years, meeting and working with wonderful awesome volunteers, recipients, organizations, and other Coordinators. Those memories come to the surface often and brings smiles.

Quilting has been so rewarding for me. My Mom taught me to sew when I was very little. Mostly I made clothes and then I made and sold Barbie clothes when I was in high school. Then I made clothes for my children. I finally thought I would make a quilt and I was hooked. I made quilts to give to friends - you can only have so many quilts. Then we found our current church about 10 years and they had a Prayer Quilt ministry. I have made quilts for that ministry ever since. God gave me an amazing gift and skill in sewing and I have finally found a way to thank God for those gifts and skills. I hope that the receiver of the quilt will feel God's love for them and answer their prayer.

I retired six years ago and moved to a small rural community and knew no one. I visited the local quilt shop and instantly became member of a small quilting bee and quilt guild. I had moved from SC to KY, I really had not met anyone to sew or craft with. Then I saw the flyer on the library door about the quilting group. I had a quilt top that was made by someone in my husbands family that needed mending & quilting. I met another neighbor who had joined the group. That was 9 years ago. Quilting is my therapy and has brought more people/friends into my life. I belong to a quilting and fabric swap group and have met people from all over the United States and one lady even from Canada. We have become good friends. We share our love of quilting and even our problems to. It gives us hope when we have others that care for one another, pray for each other, lift each other up and share in our joys and sorrows. Even in our time of seclusion during Covid we had each other and weren’t so alone. These quilty ladies have become like family.

My son Brian hand quilted with me when he was young, about 10 years old. The quilt we worked on was a Grandmother's Flower Garden which I treasure today as he passed away at age 23. Wonderful memories!

Quilting has opened my world beyond words!! I was living in a city I did not like in a state I did not like and quilting has forced me to get out of my house and meet new friends and do things I never would have done without the their support. Also, doing for charity has been an off shoot of my efforts. I had been able to explore new techniques and learn that my gift with the sewing machine is truly a gift for me as well as others. I love to see how colors work with each other (or get to a point and see how they do not work so well together and start over). A wonderful creative outlet!
