Scramble is also called Ambrose. handicaps are 1/8 of combined daily handicaps Also some have a rule of 3 tee shots per player. In Australia we play lots of 2bbb stableford of daily course handicap. Alternate shot format is called Foursomes. In Ryder cup they play best ball and Foursomes.
What about the original ball position for the best ball scramble? Can you move that ball position a club length or it has to be played at that original location?
You can move the ball position 1 club length. Use driver because it is the longest. You cannot improve the general lie (rough to fairway, sand to fairway, etc.), but you can improve the lie, fairway to fairway if that makes sense.
Great explanation. Even people who run corporate golf leagues get this confused. I usually correct them. I learned the difference through a golf game on Xbox! Edit: I used to play only stroke play with coworkers. One year we had a couple of interns. One intern was just a beginner and the other was a 6 handicap. My coworker and I both were around 18 handicap. We played a few times a week and to take the pressure off of the beginner we played skins scramble. Interns vs full timers. A ton of fun. The frustrating part was the darn beginner would always come through with one amazing shot each time that usually won the interns the $$!
jgfunk, thanks for watching! I find the biggest difference between a single digit handicap and the double digit is the consistency, the double digit can still pull off great shots but they are less frequent and more "spontaneous". We both love scrambles because they take the pressure off, especially for those who aren't as experienced! Thanks for your comment!
Best Ball you're literally just taking the best score on the whole. should realistically be called best score or best hole. Scramble you are taking the best shot and playing from there untill you hole out.
for scramble yes. for best ball, it's just the best score on the hole you take. Example you have four players, the scores are as follows Par, Par, Bogey Birdie...your team records the Birdie for their score.

@@GolfAscending that is what I thought but someone told me the original ball has to be played down?!!
Okay i thought it was the exact opposite thank you
Most people do! That’s why we made the video! Thanks for watching!
Scramble is the most fun and you feel better about yourselves with a lower score
Agreed! Scrambles are great!

If it’s Golf doesn’t matter what format I like it
Golf is great!
I feel scramble takes too much time. I like alternate shot though I can see how having a competitive partner can increase stress.
Scrambles can be quick, but can definitely slow down on the putting greens.
Still confusing. So for best ball everyone still hits their own shot but at the best ball place or from where their ball landed?

So they are choosing the best balls location to hit their own ball. Got it. O.
