- Over the last couple of days, we've had some time to play with Sony's recently-released F5/F55 firmware version 3.0. The new firmware has tons of updates, which are outlined in Jeff's previous blog, but I wanted to specifically highlight a couple of the new features including Super16 Center Scan mode, new LUT options, and High Frame Rate mode. Firmware v3.0 truly delivers on the full potential of the F5 & F55 - check out my video above to see what I mean.

why is it the recording with the raw file at the same time with xavc it stopped. do i have to update the firmware for raw also or which is more applicable to shoot at the same time with raw that it will not stopped while im filming. tnx so much

You do need to upgrade the R5 to version 3.0 for raw recording as well. When you do this it should record raw and xavc at the same time.

I don't come from a camera/technical background at all, but I've watched so many of your videos; and while I don't pick everything up, I'm slowly building a knowledgebase. So thanks for all your great videos.
Right now I'm just window shopping, but I saw that Sony announced an upgrade path for F5===>F55. For months I thought the F5 could record 4k to the R5 recorder, until I read that update. Now I'm confused, does the F5 record 4k to the R5 (without the upgrade to F55)?
If not, I'm having trouble understanding why the FS700 can output 4k raw to the R5, albeit in 12bit... when the F5, a "professional" camera cannot. Could you help orient me regarding this? Thanks ahead.
The R5 can currently record RAW from the F5. The upgrade will give the F5's sensor a global shutter and allow the camera to record 4K internally.

You pointed something about needing a low pass filter for filming 2k 25p.
Can you explain for me what do you mean by that.

We are working on making a video to show just what I mean. But to explain in brief the '2k Full' mode reads the full sensor but at lower resolution, this can cause some problems with moire. So a 2k Low Pass filter is available from Sony to fix the problem.

Would I be able to film internally with XAVC slog2 and on the R5 Raw. at the same time send a rec709 lut to monitor without it being applied on the XAVC footage ?

joe saade The thing is Im going to start filming tomorrow so having a low pass filter applied is not going to happen. And shooting 4K might get me into trouble (post production / storage ). So i want to be able to grade the XAVC 2K.

You should not have problems shooting in 2K at frame rates under 60P. You only need the low pass filter when shooting over 60P (high speed) in 2K Full mode.
