Hope you guys enjoyed this slightly different style of what I ate today! I had such an incredible day and can't wait for my cycling adventures in the future! If you want to see more recipes like my dinner you can check out my 100+ vegan recipe ebook: payhip.com/b/6yIw
Such a great vlog! I'm doing the Great North Run in September (half marathon) and I keep doubting myself that I'll never be able to do it and I've felt tempted to withdraw my place but watching this has made me feel so much more confident! Well done :) xx
Lifelong cyclist here - so happy to see a RUclips blogger cycling! Your videos definitely convey how riding a bike can make you feel awesome, wheeeeee!
philip shentall around 400-500 m elevation gain.. Im very fit.. on the flats I average out 35-37 kmh.. look at my strava profile if you dont believe me :) its the same name as here on youtube..
Raphael I cannot imagine anyone wanting to challenge what someone posts regarding cycling. What would you have to gain by lying. Maybe I am too naive but I believe you and have no reason to doubt you. I always look at posts such as yours a source of inspiration to motivate me to try and get faster.
So happy for that cycling video. I've just started cycling more seriously and it's heartwarming to see other 30ish girls biking as well ^^ keep up the good work !
Well done, riding 100km is a goal I hope to accomplish some time this year. I'll bet you slept well that night! Do you find the top bar brake levers useful or do you tend to just use the brakes from the drops?
Well done to you both for completing the cycling event, I'm not surprised you were really hungry afterwards :) It makes me smile how laid back Alex is, he's almost horizontal lol
Congratulations to you two. That was a really enjoyable video and I particularly liked your suggestions for eating on the ride. Would you change anything now that you have completed the 100k? Good luck and happy riding in Thailand
Congrats Madeleine! This is awesome, thanks for posting, haven't found many women cyclists who aren't super pros posting on RUclips. I've recently started road cycling and a bit nervous to join group rides too for all the same reasons! How did you find out about the Eden event?
I done my first centuary ride 2 months ago (Ended being 107 miles) I consumed 2 litres of SiS Go Energy Electrolyte, Lemon & Lime, 4 × 65g bars of SiS Go Energy Bars, Apple & Blackcurrant and about 4 or 5 High 5 Energy Gels. I had 1 pot of Fuel your 10k Protein Porridge for breakfast. My downside is when I ride, I sweat alot so I have to make sure I almost over-hydrate otherwise I cramp really easily! Im racing the velo 100 in Birmingham this September (100 mile race/sportive) you've got me interested in doing a similar video to this
Hey just watched your vlog from Australia... I use the SIS gels on my rides they're great! Did you take enough fluids?? Really enjoyed your vlog!! Well done!😀🚴
Woop woop!! Sugar water is so good to take in fluids and get in fuel without having to eat. Dates are my absolute FAVE thing to eat on the bike though :) well done on the 100km girrrrrrrl!!!!!!! Xx
Congratulations on riding in your first sportiff! I did my first Grand Fondo in 2015 and it was a lot of fun. Is that a Defy that Alex is riding? I have one too, excellent bike, I love mine. During my longer rides I usually take some Cliff bars and some Cliff bloks energy chews with me. I also eat orange slices (my fav) and bananas at the rest stops. Keep up the good work. :)
Congratulations! That looked like so much fun. I am running a 10K in July and keep wavering about if I am going to actually do it (it's 1 week before my 54th birthday so I'm worried I'll be the oldest 😱) but if you can ride 100K including Cornish hills I think I should be able to run 10K in Milton Keynes on a flat course. I am probably a lot older than most of your subscribers and found your channel while starting my journey to minimalism, you have also inspired me to go back to being vegetarian (I was veggie for 8 years before I met my wonderful husband) and I feel better than I have in ages 👍. I hope you and Alex have an amazing time in Thailand. Hugs x
You 100% can do that 10k! Keep telling yourself you can and it'll be easier than you think, plus lots of fun! And I actually have a huge variety of ages watching me! Age is abstract anyway! So happy to hear you're feeling great since going back to veggie!
I have set a goal for myself to run a 5km fun run in October, which doesn't sound like much but I have absolutely zero fitness so it will be a big deal. I was thinking about just not bothering but this has made me realise that I am capable if I work at it. Also, I'm having curry tonight (red instead of yellow) and this made me even more keen! Thanks for your awesome videos, I always enjoy them.
And coincidentally that was my first sportive too, and first ride ever over 40k 😂. Cornwall is so beautiful, really nice to see a vegan couple who both love cycling too.
congratulations you two, I did a half marathon a couple of years ago and I almost dropped out but I was so glad I didn't as I completed it and it was one of my best experiences ever 😊
was that the first time you rode 100km in one go!! well done I feel the same about cycling always way more guys doing it so great to be one of the few and I hope more join us
Great job, Madeleine and Alex! Sharing a long ride with others is so much fun! Maybe I'll meet up with you guys for some organized riding event someday. The other ingredient I always check for in Thai curry pastes is dry shrimp. It is hidden in a lot of Thai food too.
Watching the clips of you cycling through the countryside made me jealous, and then I realised I live in Cornwall too, so I should get out there and cycle more! I was pretty close to signing up for the bike ride when I saw a poster at eden like a month ago, but I thought my fitness wouldnt be up to scratch to do 100km. Its weirdly nice to see what it would have been like though, maybe next time :) glad you guys smashed it! excited for the your thailand vlogs :)
It took us quite a while (about 5 hours) but we were taking our time and trying to stay safe as newbies :) We did eat quite a good amount during the day as we ate pretty much all the snacks we brought with us apart from a couple nakd bars!
How do you keep you arms, thighs and butt from becoming so sore when on long rides? My street must had a dozen long distance bike riders who I discovered lift weights to help build up strength in their arms, thighs, otherwise they says their arms and legs hurt so bad after a long ride. They all have hot tubs to relax in after long rides.
Beth Grant-DeRoos I think it's just a matter of cycling lots and getting used to it! I am definitely sore after long rides! My padded shorts help and the fact I'm naturally quite muscley!
Madeleine Olivia your welcome. That's cool your going to Thailand for the famous Vegan Fruit Festival as well as the bike ride. I saw videos on that before when Durian and Freelee were doing it together. Not sure if they are doing the ride anymore as a couple but I hope it will go well and stress free for you as well. Going to Thailand is definitely on my bucket list after Europe.
Well done. The only thing I would suggest when your in Thailand is that sugar and water won't cut it. You'll need electrolytes etc to ensure proper hydration (I wonder if that was part of your problem today)? Anyway, look into it and perhaps investigate products or if best taken with you or if they can be obtained in Thailand. Over here in Oz hydration is very important. Take care. 😊 Great video. Great curry. I'm now hungry! Catch ya!
I've been wanting to make the switch from biking everywhere on my extremely bike- friendly campus (Colorado State University here in the U.S.) to road biking, but I don't know where to start! Have any advice on what I should purchase? I need a road bike and gear, etc. :)
My best advice for the time being is durianrider's channel (he has a cycling channel too). It is where I learnt the little bits I know and where I got advice for my first road bike. Ask him a question on his tumblr as he is always helping people with bike questions over there! My bike is a Giant Liv Avail 1 Disc and is a great first road bike for girls as the gearing is set up to be a lot better for climbing hills! They have lots of varieties of the Liv Avail for different budgets too :) Start with a bike, lights, a helmet, small pump, inner tubes and flat tyre repair kit and then you can slowly get other gear as you need it, like clip in shoes (I have mountain bike pedals and shoes), padded shorts, jersey etc.I'd also highly recommend getting a bike fit when you get your bike! It's an investment that will pay off in the long run! But I will definitely be making a cycling video in the future all about it!
This is so helpful, thank you so much! I'm really looking forward to being able to spend more time biking. I've realized that biking is a time for me that I feel most free and relaxed, and I love the healthy rush it gives me. I'll check out that channel and I can't wait for you to make that video as well!
I like trek, i tend to buy the banana blast bars, fairly hard but not sticky and very tasty. Ohh and grats on the 100km ride, only done one myself just for the exercise took me like 5:45 but fit is not me and i weigh in at 120kg+, it hurt :)
loving this style of video for a change :) i go to cornwall a lot so this has encouraged me to maybe rent out a bike next time i'm there, doesn't look too painful haha
Love these type of videos, funny you were number 169 at the start. I was that number in my recent 100k sportive. Again, great video. Nice to see q fellow brit vlogging
do you ever think to cut your hair like more edgy im stylist btw you have amazing amazing face for shorter hair i just think this is not cut for you,its simple, more edgy cut can frame your face a lot more i would love to help you with some tips
I have had shorter hair if you check out my older videos! I have grown it out and am loving it because it is so simple and care free! My hair is naturally wavy so having a particular edgy style was just far too high maintenance for me!
Congrats on your big ride, looked epic! I do a lot of cycling and am vegan and am a girl (crazy!), it's fairly unusual so great to see you're telling the world it's so easy to do! My favourite snacks on the road are dates, nuts and sweet potato. The latter is pretty weird but THE BEST. Just batch roast whole potatoes and then wrap a couple in foil and stick them in your jersey pocket. Other cyclists might look at you funny but honestly they're so much tastier and healthier than gels! Also a big fan of Tribe bars (wearetribe.co/) for before/during/after big rides - I'm sure they'd be keen to send you a box to try! Emilie x
I always love your videos, Madeleine! I love cycling, too! Except I only have an old mountain bike, which is still good, but someday I am going to buy myself an actual racing bike!
auburnlight Definitely will consider a video! I have a giant liv avail disc 1 which is a great bike as the gearing is set up to make it a lot easier on climbs!
I never find the need to eat much. My last 100 miles I scored 5 bananas and a bit of flapjack and 2 litres of water. I was pushing 250 to 300 watts all the way round. I think when you get fitter its easy for your body to preserve energy
It's nice to see people pro active. I have worked my self up from the bottom. It is hard. The difference between fit and unfit is unbelievably wide. I forget where I have come from sometimes. I think there is a lot of hype surrounding hydration and carbon loading. Having said that I think you were doing it right having little bits on your ride. Hope you go well in Thailand. Durian is a beast on the bike
In the long run you'll discover that 3 digit rides are really no big deal. You'll also discover that you actually don't need half the food you took this time. Congratulations on your first one.
The people I see cycling around here seem to be older dudes as well. Seems something for well-off bored middle-aged men, so good that you two mix it up. I hope you have fun in Thailand. Durianrider seems soo creepy and weird to me, so I hope you still have a good time there.
literaturegeek Haha yeah I know what you mean! I wish more young people would get into it, and girls! I hopefully can inspire some people to get on the bike by sharing it on here! He ain't creepy! He's been a huge inspiration to me recovering from my eating disorder and getting into cycling so I'm super excited for the festival!
Thanks for video. Seems cycling ver popular sport in UK. Concrats from Finland and Medal! Nowerdays I try to loose weight and only drink water or sport drink and take some banana. But it s good to have balance and you show you done it in good enegy level and its cool...
I dont really see whats so special about 100 km. I ride 40 km to school and back every day. Its 40 and not 100 but its not all my cycling for the day and i do it with a heavy bagpack. I betcha 100 € someone is going to get offended but seriously, you can overdo it. Nutrition bars for 100 Km ride, not a race.
That's amazing you cycle so far to school everyday but a 100km ride for us was the longest we had ever done before so it was a pretty big deal! Plus where we cycled in Cornwall it was a lot of elevation. No need to compare yourself to others, especially when it comes to fitness, as everyone is at a different level!
Madeleine Olivia I never saw your channel before and just woandered. I am also living in a pretty mountainous area (Fichtelgebirge) wich is i would say kinda comparable to cornwall.
Thats way too much food to take with you. its enough to take 2 bananas, 1 gel, 1 protein/carbonhydrate bar with you for a 125KM ride. and much more water you need. at least 4 bottles (1 refill of 2 bottles). adding sugar/agave and salt to water is very good. your breakfast was perfect. he cyclist
Hope you guys enjoyed this slightly different style of what I ate today! I had such an incredible day and can't wait for my cycling adventures in the future! If you want to see more recipes like my dinner you can check out my 100+ vegan recipe ebook: payhip.com/b/6yIw
I'm not sure if I asked you
Hahaha, perfect reply to a rude jerk :-D
Such a great vlog! I'm doing the Great North Run in September (half marathon) and I keep doubting myself that I'll never be able to do it and I've felt tempted to withdraw my place but watching this has made me feel so much more confident! Well done :) xx
Definitely do it! You'll be so proud of yourself and it won't be as hard as you expect it to be! You'll do amazingly!
Lifelong cyclist here - so happy to see a RUclips blogger cycling! Your videos definitely convey how riding a bike can make you feel awesome, wheeeeee!
Congratulations of finishing 100 km that's amazing!!
For sure its great but after some time it is nothing "big" anymore.. I cycle often 100km in the afternoon in 3 hrs :D
Raphael Tiziani 100k in 3 hours is a pretty furious pace. Unless you never see hills i cant imagine you could keep an average of 20mph for that long
philip shentall around 400-500 m elevation gain.. Im very fit.. on the flats I average out 35-37 kmh.. look at my strava profile if you dont believe me :) its the same name as here on youtube..

lol liar
Every time you vlog in the car I think you're vlogging while driving and I get scared. Haha! I'm so proud of you!!!
Haha yeah we're on the other side over here! Thank you!
So happy for that cycling video. I've just started cycling more seriously and it's heartwarming to see other 30ish girls biking as well ^^ keep up the good work !
30ish? I’m in my twenties 😅
@@MadeleineOlivia Oooohh I'm so sorry... Shame on me >
Well done you for finishing 100km I'm absolutely astonished! Also, I love your what i eat in a day videos, especially the porridge!
Well done, riding 100km is a goal I hope to accomplish some time this year. I'll bet you slept well that night!

Hahahahahaha omg that is the best description of him!
You inspired me to pump up my tires and get to riding this week!
Danielle Valiente Yay get on the bike! 🚴🏻♀️🚴🏻♀️🚴🏻♀️
Congratulations to you two. That was a really enjoyable video and I particularly liked your suggestions for eating on the ride. Would you change anything now that you have completed the 100k? Good luck and happy riding in Thailand

Love this!!! It's so scary to try new things and I'm so glad you shared. Feeling a bit more courageous and inspired after watching
Jenna Walthour Yay 💪🏻👊🏻

Adria MacDonald That'd be a lot of fun! Yes that is another to look out for!
I like how prepared you were for the barrage of comments on the sugar. I think you felt guilty about "doping"! :) Congrats on the 100km ride!
PS Don't Feed The Animals! (loved the sheep's appearance!)
congrats to you...love your channel, you are such a delight to watch...makes me feel positive and happy and inspired to become vegan!
I'm eating a bowl of steel cut oatmeal while watching this video. Love Cycling!
Congratulations on finishing the race! The video was wonderful, and You are amazing!
Maria Walks and Talks Aww thank you!
Cycling vlogs give me life^^ (and motivation to go out and cycling) 10/10!
I almost forgot, congratulations on that 100km!!
So cool! Well done! Alex has the same bike as I do. Can't wait to see your Thailand vlogs!!
I love that bike! Kinda jealous of the bright colour! And yay me too!
Watching the clips of you cycling through the countryside made me jealous, and then I realised I live in Cornwall too, so I should get out there and cycle more! Gina Beans Sign up for next year! If 100km is too far then they have the shorter ride too! I highly highly recommend you try it out!
And I neeeeed to come and cycle in Cornwall!!! I've never been but it looks BEAUTIFUL 😍😍
How long did it take you to do the 62 miles? I don't think I'd ever be able to manage this let alone on basically only breakfast and snacks.
It took us quite a while (about 5 hours) but we were taking our time and trying to stay safe as newbies :) We did eat quite a good amount during the day as we ate pretty much all the snacks we brought with us apart from a couple nakd bars!
Awesome job! You rock! I'm planning to go on a week long biking trip and feeling nervous too:)
I SAW THOSE OEROS!
So happy for you and congrats on sticking it through😊😊😊😊👍
Jack Webb Thank you Jack!!
Are you going to video the Thai ride? ( Arizona USA ) great biking here!!
Take care. 😊
Great video. Great curry. I'm now hungry! Catch ya!
Wow, how many kcals did you eat during that ride. Even when riding slow 2 isotonic bottles and like 3 clif bars should be more than enough
Have you ever thought of putting a pinch of salt in your bottles as electrolyte rather than squash
I would love to do this! Gonna be getting a bike this summer and can't wait
I'm new to your channel, great vlog. Kudos on finishing.
What bike rack do you use on the car? I want to get a good one
Gonna make that dinner for tomorrow thanks for the inspiration. Looking forward to see any Thailand vids, try to meet Durian rider!
Gerard Haha I'm sure we will! And I hope you enjoy it!
What do you think about being gluten free?
simplelittleflower No need unless you are intolerant!
I like trek, i tend to buy the banana blast bars, fairly hard but not sticky and very tasty.
Ohh and grats on the 100km ride, only done one myself just for the exercise took me like 5:45 but fit is not me and i weigh in at 120kg+, it hurt :)
Well done! Thanks for the cycling stereo type, it just so happens I fit into it 😂😂
loving this style of video for a change :) i go to cornwall a lot so this has encouraged me to maybe rent out a bike next time i'm there, doesn't look too painful haha
Definitely do! There are lots of great bike paths and coastal routes you can do! Cycling is a great way to see a lot more!
i don't know if it's just me who noticed that but I think Alex doesn't like the idea of making volgs .......Anyways u r awesome Madeleine
Lol why do you think that? He is a pretty laid back and quiet person, even around me! Something I'll be revealing soon will prove otherwise ;)
oh thanks... :)
Love these type of videos, funny you were number 169 at the start. I was that number in my recent 100k sportive.

Definitely invest in one! Best money I've ever spent!
Do you have any brand or style recommendations? Perhaps a future video for all aspiring cyclists? :)
auburnlight Definitely will consider a video! I have a giant liv avail disc 1 which is a great bike as the gearing is set up to make it a lot easier on climbs!
So proud of you!
Thanks Darcy!
i know this has nothing to do with the vid but do you know anithing about ethical shopping if yes could you make a vid about it?
just don't shop much. YW
Yay cycle adventures are life! ^_^
They're so much fun!

What a lovely girl , keep doing what your doing you rock !
ARE YOU PUTTING CHEESE IN YOUR OATMEAL?
Ew no what the hell it's mango! I'm vegan!
Man, I want to do that... so motivating!
Cups of compassion You should do it! There is bound to be a similar event near you!
Thats way too much food to take with you. its enough to take 2 bananas, 1 gel, 1 protein/carbonhydrate bar with you for a 125KM ride. and much more water you need. at least 4 bottles (1 refill of 2 bottles). adding sugar/agave and salt to water is very good. your breakfast was perfect. he cyclist
netei who asked u?
What type of bike do you have? 😊
Giant Liv Avail 1 Disc :)
I ate a fuckin big Mac and ride 160kl......moral of the story =all you need is training
FTX HAVOK Good luck with the heart problems!
Ist man Ketolysefähig und hat eine gute Grundlagenausdauer, dann ist man auf diese "Kohlenhydratmast" nicht angewiesen.
Just to let you now. 7 MAY its my B-DAY :-)
Tudo isso pra 100km?!! Nem se eu fosse à lua!
I bet the Oreos tasted the best!
