The people, I think, that are willing to do harm to those that are in their way to make these changes. U2, could have been in their way, but decided to shoulder up with them I think. The way they interacted with the pope, mainstream media, 'leaders' of the world etc. And I agree with you that the music (for people like you and me and many other music-lovers) became equally uninspiring and flat.
