What is the reason for the beats not being connected to the actual script page? And what is the reason for not being able to scroll through the script with the vertical blue line? These two features actually seem to be very basic.
Hi Mark, our sincere apologies and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We weren't aware that our closed captions weren't working - we are reaching out to RUclips support to figure out how to get them turned back on ASAP.
Hi Jon! You would have to move the scenes down on the outline editor to add a new scene. If you need further assistance, please contact our tech support team, who is standing by M-F 8:30-5:30 PST: www.finaldraft.com/contact/contact-technical-support/
Hello, Jon! Just to help clarify the answer Final Draft gave you here. This tutorial is about how to use the Outline Editor above the page ruler. Beats are different from Scenes in this program. When you add a BEAT, it's a card that shows up on the Beat Board. As Final Draft answered in their comment here, in the Outline Editor (the sections above the page ruler that say Outline 1 and Outline 2), you have to drag your beats down the outline bars/sections to make room for the new beat. However, if you like to plan your script by Scenes, you can do what you're asking. Here's how... 1. Be sure your cursor is either on the Beat Board or in your Script page, depending on where you are in the program. (If you try to change views, they are grayed out if your cursor is not in the right place.) 2. On the VIEW tab, click SCENE VIEW 3. There are two ways to add a new scene: a. Right-click (Command + click) in the Scene area below the page ruler and select "Insert New Scene" from the context menu that appears. b. From the INSERT tab, select "New Scene" Let's say you have three scenes already added to your scene view: Scene 1, Scene 2, Scene 3. And you decide you want to add another scene between Scene 1 & 2... 1. Right-click (Command + click) on Scene 1 2. Select "Insert New Scene" from the context menu that appears. 3. The new scene will automatically insert itself AFTER the Scene 1, which is the scene to right-clicked on. Scenes you enter on the Scene View will automatically get inserted into your script. Beat cards you put on the Beat Board and/or the Outline 1 & 2 sections WILL NOT get entered into your script UNLESS you do the following: 1. Use the "Send Outline to Script" button on the far left of the Outline Editor (just under the Outline 1 and Outline 2 labels) 2. IN THE Beat Board VIEW, go to the INSERT tab and select "Send to Script" or CTRL + SHIFT + C in Windows. I don't have a clue what it is in Mac, but if you hover over this "Send to Script" button, it should give you a keyboard shortcut. I hope that helps! Happy writing!
One more thing. I'm watching the 1-2-3 Workflow video from Final Draft and this video might be more helpful to you: ruclips.net/video/PBmd0BQuMoU/видео.html Good luck and happy writing!

@@inaltavamos1967 I did not. I’ve tried emailing support and have received no information. I don’t think it’s possible to be honest. Maybe in an update.
I'll try to answer your question. I'm assuming you're asking if certain colors mean certain things? If so, then that is entirely up to you and author's choice. For example: Blue cards for you might be A Story beats, green might be B Story beats, and yellow might be C Story beats. OR you could use colors to reflect the beats for your characters. Blue could be the "John Doe's" scenes that have to pertain to his story arc, and green are for Jane Smith's story arc. Whatever you want! I hope this helps. Happy writing!
Hi Claudio, you can print the beat board, which is connected to the outline editor. Here's how: kb.finaldraft.com/s/article/Can-I-print-or-export-the-Beat-Board
Insufficient information about how to setup Outline 1 and move from Outline to Beat Board or Vise Versa. Need to show how to setup Pre-Story, Act1, Act2, Act3, Teaser, then move it to the Beat Board or visa versa.
Hi, Scott! I might be able to answer your question. I'm on Windows, so if you're on a Mac, some things might be a little different. I'll try to accommodate. "How to setup up Outline 1" 1. I recommend you start by ensuring you're in the Beat Board view. If you're starting out on your script view, be sure your cursor is on your script page. Then from the VIEW tab/ribbon, choose "Beat Board". (If you're not on your script page, the Beat Board option is grayed out.) 2. Once on the Beat Board, there are a few ways you can add a new beat: a. INSERT tab > New Beat b. Double-click anywhere within the Beat Board area c. Right-click (or Command + Click) in either Outline 1 or Outline 2 sections above the beat board, just above the page ruler 3. If you've added a Beat by using 2c, then the beat is already on the Outline 1 or 2 section AND appears in the Beat Board. You can click and drag the beats from there in either places. However, if you added a Beat using 2a. or b., it will not appear on the Outline 1 or 2 section. Simply click-and-drag the beat from the Beat Board up to the Outline 1 or 2 sections above the page ruler. 4. At any time, you can right-click (I think Command + Click on the Mac) to access a context menu to change the colors of the beats, as well as other formatting options. "Move from Outline to Beat Board or Vice Versa" You may have guessed by the instructions above that it's just a simple click-and-drag from the Outline to the Beat Board, and Vice Versa. So to do what you you want in setting up your Pre-Story, Act 1, etc.... 1. Right-click (Command + click) on the Outline 1 section and select "New Beat" from the context menu. The new beat will not only appear on the Outline 1 section, but pop up on the Beat Board. 2. On the Beat Board, give the beat a title: Pre-Story, for example. 3. Click and drag the new beat to wherever you need it on the Beat Board AND on the Outline 1 section. 4. Hover your mouse over the edge of the beat on the Outline 1 section to get the double-headed arrow, then click-and-drag the edge to lengthen the duration of the beat. EX: If you want your Pre-Story beat to start on page 1 and end on page 2, drag the beat to the far left of the Outline 1 section, then click-and-drag the edge of the beat to the page 2 marker on the page ruler. I hope this answers your question AND it helps others who might have the same question you do. Happy writing!
Outline Editor: How exactly do you get what's shown in the video (split panes, left for populating the outline editor, right for the script)? Thanx.
Never mind, figured it out. This is terrific, a great new tool.

Any chance you could add the feature to put in additional lanes?
Can you add another level to the outline editor? For example, if I wanted to add an 'Outline 3', is that possible?
Following - That's what I need right now.

How do you add a scene in between other scenes so that everything after it moves forward to accommodate the new scene? It seems to only add it on top.
