Sephiroth's fall from being a hero actually feel like a tragedy in this game. It dosn't justify anything he does, and he was never 'entierly there' to begin with, but these glimpses into who he was before he lost his sanity due to the revelation about who he really is was masterfully done. It also feels Lovecraftian, where someone searches for alien truths that are incomprehensible to the human mind, and Sephiroth got his eldritch revelation from being in the mansion for too long. And just like with any Lovecraftian hero, the revelation broke his mind. Another detail is that you can tell he's trying to calm his nerves and try to resist just before he fully unravels, but his emotional & mental breakdown left him vulnerable and by that point it was already too late.

S24 no, Sephiroth isn't there. It's all in Cloud's head since there wasn't a black cloak nearby to facilitate sephiroth's presence. That's why i'm saying it's cloud himself putting those words in seph's mouth
Seriously. It may have been widely speculated that he would be playable (let’s be real, it was pretty obvious once the cover art dropped), but the fact they still tried to save it as a surprise is pretty dope. It’s always nice when the people behind games, movies, TV, etc do that.

And you can hear her pain and heartbreak in her voice when defending herself from Cloud's accusation after the flashback. Really sells that she's being violated and feeling betrayed. Really twists the knife (no pun intended).
I know this has already been discussed, but the "soldier" crawling towards Cloud's house bit, is some of the best environmental storytelling I have ever seen.

Spending those 15 minutes dragging my barely injured leg through that terribly textured burning building. I almost turned it off right there. I don't know how they spent 6 years making this trash
It's really freakin good! Also if you pay attention its exactly where "Player-Cloud" ends up, in the exact same pose after being blown away from the door/house. Just wish they didnt have the "Mo.." in there, makes it a bit obvious if you pay just a tiny bit of attention, still an amazing start!

I also find it weird that they were looking for Zack in the rubble in the first place, considering they literally have already had confirmation of his sighting on the cliffs outside Midgar, (aka they literally already know where he is because that big fight was literally the same day as the news report) and should have therefore posted guards at every single entrance to the city to get eyes on him ASAP if he tried to approach Midgar instead of wasting manpower on a search they already know is pointless. It's REALLY bad writing, despite being arguably minor in the long run. Not a fan of that opening sequence because of it tbh.
In fairness, he's had several hours to recover by that point. It's not like he went straight from one fight to the other. The man has cure materia on hand for crying out loud. By the time he got to Midgar he likely didn't have any serious wounds left.
I think Cody Christian's voice acting has improved since the last game. He wasn't bad or anything before, but I think he shows more range here. But maybe that's just because Cloud spent the whole last game being grumpy.
Reading too much into it. Cloud is stoic and cool he does not have much tonal range in the beginning due to story reasons. He is meant to purposefully be this way.

@RogerHR It wasn't Jenova controlling Sephiroth. It was always Jenova impersonating Sephiroth. It was hinted at multiple times throughout this game. "Those you love, those you fear, those you hate" and all that.
As someone who played the original final fantasy 7, this game is a 11/ 10 for me. Cant believe how good it looks. Combat which used to be a single command, is now s tier action combat
Max plays the BEST playthrough of FF7R in ALL of the internet. I just love how he sprinkles informative Lore throughout his run.... and the fact that he genuinely loves this game.
As someone who hasnt got the money (or the justification for that matter) to buy a PS5 for one single game, even if we've waited 4 years for this game, watching Max being so happy and hype while playing really is the next best thing! Makes the wait for the PC-port alot easier! There is a reason 23,300 people subbed to him just before Rebirth release, just to watch him play the og FF7 with mods ❤

a lot of interesting dialogue that makes references to the novels, for example did you know there is a short story of Tifa after the Nibleheim incident? in it it mentions Zangan saving her and leaving her in Midgar to go off to fight Shinra on his own, Tifa after regaining conciousness starts both working to survive and training to recover her lost strength, its there she meets Jessie, Biggs and Wedge on her work, which was, SELLING MEAT BUNS IN SECTOR 8 yeah, that random comment by the guy in Kalm was about Tifa
Just wanted to say I was pointed to your channel by my cousin, he was recovering from cancer and couldnt play rebirth so he was watching you (called you his favorite ff streamer) play it until he could after recovery. He just passed last night so i thought id come and subscribe in his memory. Ive been holding back on rebirth because ff7 is my favorite game and Im savoring it, but i think now I will continue with the thoughts that I have to play it for him. Imagine waiting 20+ years for your favorite game remake, and not getting to leave Midgar 😢

Another cool thing about the nibelheim flashback. Cloud’s clothing. 2 shoulders pads like a certain someone. And then present day wearing the famous one bolted shoulder guard. I hope new players have noticed this.

Exactly the same situation for me. I lost everything during that time, and went really deep down. Darkest place I have ever been. Had it not been for Max's FFVII Remake playthrough, I may not have made it. Now I get to watch his Rebirth playthrough after making it through that and being in the best part of ny life ever. 4:22 - 4:27 it's right there as he's looking up at the giant TV screen watching the report. Unless you mean when he had to pause cause of the passing truck. The reason the radio report doesn't get interrupted and resume like that is probably because it's not the same reporting. In real life news reports and radio reports will repeat information all the time but they aren't reusing the audio in each of those report even if they're saying the same information.
I skipped the cutscene thinking "It's just the stuff from the Nibelheim demo." What I saw after skipping threw me off. I said "Nope, I'm restarting, and not skipping shit."
I usually don’t skip, I was going to be on my phone then I saw what was after the trailer…..I was like this didn’t happen in the demo or this didn’t happen at the end of the first game….what is going on 😂

I love the subtle references some of the NPC’s are making. For those who read Traces of Two pasts, the guy who loves the steamed buns (and the girl that served them), he’s talking about Tifa who served steamed buns when she first came to Midgar. 😁
Also during the flashback when Tifa asks if Cloud worked out with the people in town, and again when she mentions the nurses who stayed with her during her recovery.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVENT SEEN MAX REBIRTH DEMO PLAYTHROUGH YET, YOU GUYS SHOULD! The Nibelheim part is definitely better there + his reaction. And then you can continue watching this after that. That's all.

Yep, it showed that the start is in a different timeline. Stamp's breed is different. My question though is how exactly those events that should taken place much later (a few days at least) happened right after "Comatose-Cloud" and Zack appeared in Midgar. Its like comatose cloud and zack were catapulted into another timeline alltogether. And there is another Cloud already existing there and vanished the moment of the highway incident while the others are presumabnly dead.
It really hits differently if you think about that when Cloud is retelling the Nibelheim story it's the most you see him smile/smirk, because he's telling it from Zack's perspective
Yeah. Anyone who knows what really went down there can tell how very Zack-like Cloud acts in the flashback. But, I wonder if anyone who doesn't know the twist would think Cloud acts different in the present because of how traumatic the loss of his hometown was.
I am as awed as I was in '97 when I played the original... Great characters, fantastic music, the gameplay and now discovering a new beginning and plotline... I feel like a teenage girl again... Thanx Square Enix for remaking FFVII and still cherishing the core elements of this game...Playing the Remake, Crisis Core and just the first few minutes of playing Rebirth showed me that this game still has, what made us become gamers and fans in the first place... We want great fights and a brave hero that may struggle, but is able to overcome everything because of conviction, friendship, loyalty and love. Dreams and Honour! 🪽 P. S. I love Aerith and Tifa, they're perfect just the way thay were/are! And just like the boys did with these two, you can be sure we girls swooned just as much over Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth!🪽 You can definetly feel that this is a game "from gamers for gamers" ❤ Thanx to Max for this playthrough... Love that little cut of Sephiroth interrupting Cloud before he talks to Tifa. She’s clearly going to talk to him about nibleheim but Seph just pulls up with his manipulative bullshit and plants an idea in Cloud specifically to make Tifa walk away and distance herself from him. Makes it clear that even if they’ve escaped the whispers, Sephiroth still intends to control how Clouds story will play out in this version.

I'm not even playing the game and I'm still blown away at how amazing it looks and plays. The locations and characters are so full of life, including the NPCs. So much stuff to explore, so much game available to unlock. Story is wonderfully deep and intriguing. The dialogue and interaction of the main cast is fantastic. Music is great. This game gave us all we expected and a ton of stuff that we didn't. We've only seen the minutest portion of this world and it already feels like an 11 out of 10 game. Well done indeed!

Got this from NicoB's comment section: Something really cool about Zack's basic combo is that it shares mivements with his yellow Materia mives in Crisis Core! Most noticeable are his use of Twister and Giblin Punch in his combo. This really shows hot this game really something for any type of fan of the series.
Will have to watch this play through after I finish mine, but I had to see Max's reaction to the beginning. When Max first stated he had seen more than most, I was disappointed. But then he realized it was different and lost his shit same as me. This is gonna get crazy.
When I first started playing, I saw that the start of the game was the same as in the demo, so I’m like “I’ve seen this a million times, I’ll just skip”, then I’m standing there as Zack, like wtf, immediately return to title screen and start a new game again… lol

Watching through this video,I’ve seen Max find things that I myself missed in my own playthrough thus far: the aureate pinion in the chocobo ranch; the tank in the field, with the accompanying chests and dialogue; and best of all, how to turn off Mi’s repeated dialogue for the special field enemies. Love your enthusiasm for this game. It’s making my own playthrough feel that much more enjoyable as I go back to watch yours after each new chapter in game.

I don't know what happens in the next part obviously, but if Zack doesn't pick it up or notice it and just leaves it there because he's so worried about Aerith then holy just gets lost in some puddle in Midgar and never can be used to stop meteor in Zack's timeline. Keep an eye on that.

Even though a lot of the stuff is from demos, and what not, I love how they still have super exciting things that we never got to see like the whole Zack section. Can’t wait for the next part.
@@darkenix Remake’s performance mode on PS5 had a much better resolution despite the muddy textures, I guess the big problem is that Unreal Engine 4 has trouble with big detailed open worlds

The way inanimate objects just go flying and create a chain reaction of flying objects when you lightly brush past them is just one of THE best parts of this game lol I love it
I’m in love with this game, I’m only on right at the start of chapter 3 and have 10 hours on the game. Square did it again. I stayed away from anything pertaining to the game pre-launch and my mind has been blown thus far.
@@fajaradi1223Been playing it on graphics mode (16 hours in so far). 30fps usually gives me a headache after playing 60fps a lot in most games but after 30 minutes or an hour it looks smooth to my eyes again. My eyes can get used to 30 fps but my eyes can't get used to how performance mode looks still even after the patch. So I'd personally recommend graphics mode as well.

Final fantasy is back to masterpiece level. Blown away by this and only on chapter 3. 15 was ok, remake was good and rebirth is a masterpiece. So much good new content added as well as prety faithful nostalgic moments

I’m only on Chapter 6, but I’m in total awe over this game. It’s everything that I could want in a game. I happened to see a piece of detail that I never noticed before, but when Max changed Cloud’s weapon to the Sleek Blade…you can see Red’s reflection in the sword. It’s the little details like that instance that puts a smile on my face. That, and seeing Max experience this game we’ve all been looking forward to.

I absolutely love this game so far. I'm only exploring the Greenlands currently so very early but it's so cosy I love it. I'm not a huge final fantasy fan or anything, I've only played FF7 Remake and FF16, neither of those really struck me so quickly. The music, characters, world, everything's so warm feeling lol

Seriously. It may have been widely speculated that he would be playable (let’s be real, it was pretty obvious once the cover art dropped), but the fact they still tried to save it as a surprise is pretty dope. It’s always nice when the people behind games, movies, TV, etc do that.

Birt Baron NAILED Tifa's voice for the flashback. You can perfectly hear the subtle "what are you about to say... how do you know this" emotion.

I also find it weird that they were looking for Zack in the rubble in the first place, considering they literally have already had confirmation of his sighting on the cliffs outside Midgar, (aka they literally already know where he is because that big fight was literally the same day as the news report) and should have therefore posted guards at every single entrance to the city to get eyes on him ASAP if he tried to approach Midgar instead of wasting manpower on a search they already know is pointless. It's REALLY bad writing, despite being arguably minor in the long run. Not a fan of that opening sequence because of it tbh.
In fairness, he's had several hours to recover by that point. It's not like he went straight from one fight to the other. The man has cure materia on hand for crying out loud. By the time he got to Midgar he likely didn't have any serious wounds left.
I think Cody Christian's voice acting has improved since the last game. He wasn't bad or anything before, but I think he shows more range here. But maybe that's just because Cloud spent the whole last game being grumpy.

Reading too much into it. Cloud is stoic and cool he does not have much tonal range in the beginning due to story reasons. He is meant to purposefully be this way.

did you know there is a short story of Tifa after the Nibleheim incident? in it it mentions Zangan saving her and leaving her in Midgar to go off to fight Shinra on his own, Tifa after regaining conciousness starts both working to survive and training to recover her lost strength, its there she meets Jessie, Biggs and Wedge on her work, which was, SELLING MEAT BUNS IN SECTOR 8

He just passed last night so i thought id come and subscribe in his memory. Ive been holding back on rebirth because ff7 is my favorite game and Im savoring it, but i think now I will continue with the thoughts that I have to play it for him. 4:22 - 4:27 it's right there as he's looking up at the giant TV screen watching the report. Unless you mean when he had to pause cause of the passing truck. The reason the radio report doesn't get interrupted and resume like that is probably because it's not the same reporting. In real life news reports and radio reports will repeat information all the time but they aren't reusing the audio in each of those report even if they're saying the same information.

I skipped the cutscene thinking "It's just the stuff from the Nibelheim demo." What I saw after skipping threw me off. I said "Nope, I'm restarting, and not skipping shit."
I usually don’t skip, I was going to be on my phone then I saw what was after the trailer…..I was like this didn’t happen in the demo or this didn’t happen at the end of the first game….what is going on 😂

I love the subtle references some of the NPC’s are making. For those who read Traces of Two pasts, the guy who loves the steamed buns (and the girl that served them), he’s talking about Tifa who served steamed buns when she first came to Midgar. 😁
Also during the flashback when Tifa asks if Cloud worked out with the people in town, and again when she mentions the nurses who stayed with her during her recovery.

Yep, it showed that the start is in a different timeline. Stamp's breed is different.
My question though is how exactly those events that should taken place much later (a few days at least) happened right after "Comatose-Cloud" and Zack appeared in Midgar. Its like comatose cloud and zack were catapulted into another timeline alltogether. And there is another Cloud already existing there and vanished the moment of the highway incident while the others are presumabnly dead.
Just woke up after a 15 hour sessions yesterday - for so many parts I can’t wait for Max’s reaction. Hope everyone is enjoying - god I love this game
It really hits differently if you think about that when Cloud is retelling the Nibelheim story it's the most you see him smile/smirk, because he's telling it from Zack's perspective

Yeah. Anyone who knows what really went down there can tell how very Zack-like Cloud acts in the flashback. But, I wonder if anyone who doesn't know the twist would think Cloud acts different in the present because of how traumatic the loss of his hometown was.
I am as awed as I was in '97 when I played the original... Great characters, fantastic music, the gameplay and now discovering a new beginning and plotline... I feel like a teenage girl again... Thanx Square Enix for remaking FFVII and still cherishing the core elements of this game...Playing the Remake, Crisis Core and just the first few minutes of playing Rebirth showed me that this game still has, what made us become gamers and fans in the first place...
We want great fights and a brave hero that may struggle, but is able to overcome everything because of conviction, friendship, loyalty and love.

Love that little cut of Sephiroth interrupting Cloud before he talks to Tifa. She’s clearly going to talk to him about nibleheim but Seph just pulls up with his manipulative bullshit and plants an idea in Cloud specifically to make Tifa walk away and distance herself from him. Makes it clear that even if they’ve escaped the whispers, Sephiroth still intends to control how Clouds story will play out in this version.

I'm not even playing the game and I'm still blown away at how amazing it looks and plays. The locations and characters are so full of life, including the NPCs. So much stuff to explore, so much game available to unlock. Story is wonderfully deep and intriguing. The dialogue and interaction of the main cast is fantastic. Music is great. This game gave us all we expected and a ton of stuff that we didn't. We've only seen the minutest portion of this world and it already feels like an 11 out of 10 game. Well done indeed!

Most noticeable are his use of Twister and Giblin Punch in his combo. This really shows hot this game really something for any type of fan of the series.

Watching through this video,I’ve seen Max find things that I myself missed in my own playthrough thus far: the aureate pinion in the chocobo ranch; the tank in the field, with the accompanying chests and dialogue; and best of all, how to turn off Mi’s repeated dialogue for the special field enemies.
Love your enthusiasm for this game. It’s making my own playthrough feel that much more enjoyable as I go back to watch yours after each new chapter in game.

I don't know what happens in the next part obviously, but if Zack doesn't pick it up or notice it and just leaves it there because he's so worried about Aerith then holy just gets lost in some puddle in Midgar and never can be used to stop meteor in Zack's timeline. Keep an eye on that.

Even though a lot of the stuff is from demos, and what not, I love how they still have super exciting things that we never got to see like the whole Zack section. Can’t wait for the next part.

@@darkenix Remake’s performance mode on PS5 had a much better resolution despite the muddy textures, I guess the big problem is that Unreal Engine 4 has trouble with big detailed open worlds

Definitely helps you see that Cloud's current personality is a combination of Zack and Sephiroth.
I’m playing Rebirth while I also have this video pulled up and anytime something crazy in the game happens I’ll pause it and watch Max’s reaction right after mine.

The way inanimate objects just go flying and create a chain reaction of flying objects when you lightly brush past them is just one of THE best parts of this game lol I love it

I love that they gave Trooper Cloud Zack's voice and also giving young Cloud Zack's speech patterns and behaviors. That was a nice detail.
I’m in love with this game, I’m only on right at the start of chapter 3 and have 10 hours on the game. Square did it again. I stayed away from anything pertaining to the game pre-launch and my mind has been blown thus far.
Does the performance mode still blurry AF?

@@fajaradi1223Been playing it on graphics mode (16 hours in so far). 30fps usually gives me a headache after playing 60fps a lot in most games but after 30 minutes or an hour it looks smooth to my eyes again. My eyes can get used to 30 fps but my eyes can't get used to how performance mode looks still even after the patch. So I'd personally recommend graphics mode as well.
I can't even tell a difference between the graphics modes, except that the 30 fps is noticeable @@Ti7Vk3y
@@Ti7Vk3ynot me, from start up to now I play with performance and my eyes are fine; guess it all comes to how well your eyes are but I could be wrong.

Final fantasy is back to masterpiece level. Blown away by this and only on chapter 3. 15 was ok, remake was good and rebirth is a masterpiece. So much good new content added as well as prety faithful nostalgic moments

How absolutely incredible! Seeing your reactions make me so emotional as well! We really finally made it! 4 years! So far this game is amazing and has been worth every second!
I’m only on Chapter 6, but I’m in total awe over this game. It’s everything that I could want in a game. I happened to see a piece of detail that I never noticed before, but when Max changed Cloud’s weapon to the Sleek Blade…you can see Red’s reflection in the sword. It’s the little details like that instance that puts a smile on my face. That, and seeing Max experience this game we’ve all been looking forward to.

I absolutely love this game so far. I'm only exploring the Greenlands currently so very early but it's so cosy I love it. I'm not a huge final fantasy fan or anything, I've only played FF7 Remake and FF16, neither of those really struck me so quickly. The music, characters, world, everything's so warm feeling lol
I’m 12 hours in and still in the grasslands. One of the best games I’ve ever played.

Zack and a confident Cloud bith with their own buster swords defeat sephiroth in a godly epic 1v2 within the lifestream.
We are back boys. Looking forward to this playthrough more than anything right now. I dont have a PS5 or time to play this anyway, so ill be enjoying it through Max. Lets hecking go 💪🏼
