IMHO this is one of the greatest reading of this masterwork. I believe Mo Peter Serkin is the only one that has fully captured and transmitted so clearly the structure of the final fugue. May rest in the glory of God!
I think it must have been an enormous challenge for the son to even consider recording this music that his father was famous for. To speak in terms of better or worse, is something that I find uninteresting, even wrong. Music is not a competition (Bartok said competitions are for horses...). Both Serkins are on the same extremely high level as far as I am concerned.

So sad to hear of his death. Such wonderful playing of a work that is so complex and yet requires such continuity throughout to give it understanding.
18:17 is my favorite variation. It's so mysterious. I only wish it weren't so short 😩
