they blew me away first game ever bought for me on PC. You had 3 colours per roblox looking mufugga of a car but you knew who you were racing against if you were already watching the sport. The only other racing sim worth a damn back then was Papyrus Indy 500 which came with the Creative Labs Soundblaster 8 (amiga had great sounds built in, we had to get a card) Papyrus went on to do Indycar Racing, Nascar Racing and the same guys are now doing iRacing. Crammond did 4 GP games but never really updated the engine at all so they sadly got jankier.
Somewhere between Indy 500 and F1GP are the first racing sims that A) you could tune the car, AND it actually made a difference B) you were actually on a full circuit and could turn around and drive into the traffic at high speed and C) you could smash up every other car. F1 was fun to play properly, Indy 500 was *f'ing epic* for doing a lap backwards at full speed then plowing into cars at 400mph closing speed and enjoying the carnage.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah my nostalgias! First two pc games ever bought for me was Alone in the Dark, and Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix. You had to use your imagination a bit but even with those blocks of plain colour, you still knew who and what you were passing every time if you knew the cars anyway. All the helmets were right on the drivers screen but they didnt actually get the rights for F1 so the team and driver names were different. (Thats Pierluigi Martini's Minardi OP is harassing. The white yellow black car) and the Green and Blue ones are Jordan 191's.... The Michaels debut car.
