This is Rafah, situated near the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
To help you understand the basic IDF strategy, let's divide Gaza into 5 parts.
We start with North Gaza, then move on to Gaza,
followed by Deir Al Balah, Khan Younis, and finally Rafah and this crossing towards Egypt.
And a quick recap: since Hamas attack on October 7, the IDF has invaded Gaza from almost all sides, by land, sea, and air.
Firstly, invading Gaza from the North, then progressing to Central Gaza, while instructing Gazans to move to the South.
There are various crossings that the IDF controls, namely the Kerem Shalom and Hamas controls Rafah.

Israel's ultimate goal is to establish a greater State of Israel in the Middle East and control parts of several countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Rafah from Egypt. Even without October 7, it would have created an excuse to attack Rafah, and this is a suitable excuse.

Biden's administration hasn't confirmed nor denied them because they don't want to be seen as unprofessionally taking Israel's word without question, but they also don't want to undermine the credibility of Israel's war cabinet because morale is important in times of war. So instead, they're just remaining quiet about the true number of battalions left because so far- data from Israeli universities and professors is already working against Israel's favour in mainstream media and in the ICJ. It goes to show that Israel isn't a fascist autocracy because not all voices in Israel are suppressed, but perhaps Israelis have become too enthusiastically consenting to what historians will inevitably term "terror-bombing" regarding the onslaught in Gaza.
More realistically, Israel has killed around 1/3rd of Hamas's fighters. Many of the battalions that the IDF claims to have "eliminated" have seemingly reproduced from their own ashes in Northern Gaza and Gaza City. They're regrouping extremely slowly and close to running out of ammunition, but it doesn't matter. If Hamas is completely dismantled, another Hamas with a different name will pop up and it will have the immediate backing of 2 million Gazans. The 25,000 Palestinian orphans of the war are technically already a national security threat to Israel, as cold-blooded as that sounds.
