Thanks Mazzy. Some great stories about my favorite band. 1976 was a great tour despite Keith's health issues during the tour. Saw them at MSG on 3/10/76.

I saw the Who in 1967 at the Cow Palace. It was with some of acts who also appeared on the bill with them at Monterey pop Festival. Eric Burdon, the Association, Everly Brothers and Sopwith Camel. If you bought an album at White Front department store you got a free ticket. It was my first concert and the sound was pretty bad in the cheap seats so I stood near the stage hoping to catch a piece of Keith's drum sticks- they were flying all over but not near me....I was 12 years old.

😊"I'm a Boy" was the first Who single I played. "I Can See For Miles" was the last I spun. "A Quick One" was the only album I ever bought (2nd hand for 50 pence)
Cream''s "Sunshine of Your Love" was more popular with the kids on the dancefloor.

promoting genzolini's books (which i was unaware of and would love to have) is a great way time. i couldn't have seen cream in the 60's except as an infant but seeing the who at the filmore west during that time would have been heavenly.

Last tour with Keith Moon at MSG. They played all of Tommy, Who by Numbers and Quadrophenia. The Garden rocked longer and louder than any of the hundreds of shows I have seen. You could see the Band was really enjoying playing for a raucous crowd.

I Can See For Miles is an absolute classic that I couldn’t stop playing when I bought the 45 in 1967. The dense, layered guitars still blow my mind. It is one of the truly heaviest songs ever. Excellent video Mazzy!

I still remember the first time I heard The Who, “Live at Leeds”. Wow! Great energy. Then “Tommy”, followed by “Who’s Next” while in the Army. I never felt “Quadraphenia” either. I’ll have to listen again. Bill Graham was great for music. I’ve read that he loved the Allman Brothers. On record, he said they were one of his favorite bands. Thanks for the video. 🎶👍🏼😎

As a teenager I didn't realize the social commentary of the song" Teenage waste Land" until I heard the live performance, where the music stops , and Daltry sweeps a pointing finger across the audience , and screams, " You're all wasted!", which caused the audience to cheer wildly in agreement, as though they were in tune with the music. so he did it again. Even more cheering in response. the third time, after the crowd's vocal agreement to the pronouncement that the audience was stoned out of their mind, , they went back into the song. They put on quite a show.

How lucky you and I were to be with the crowd that saw any of Bill Graham’s shows. All unique and I loved When Bill Graham would come on stage to introduce the band. It made the whole event more personable. We just flat out got lucky to see anyone at The Fillmore West and Winterland and The Cow Palace. These places were made for rock n roll. They were mostly wood construction which absorbed the sound, keeping it from bouncing and echoing like Oakland Colisium or any other modern indoor arenas would do. I know someone that works at the Cow Palace and she told me the owners are not interested in holding concerts there now. Such a shame. 👍🏼 on the Who of course. Just my 2 cents on the buildings & thanks for your videos too!

Entwistle and Moon are by far my favorite rhythm section of all time. I just watched An Ox's Tale about Entwistle and was interested to hear how his training as a trumpet player impacted his approach to bass guitar. My other favorite bassist, Phil Lesh, was also a trumpet player. Both Lesh and Entwistle took up the bass to support their guitar-playing bandmates (Garcia and Townshend) and their styles were instrumental (no pun intended) to the sound of their respective bands.
It's always interesting to hear your SF knowledge and experiences Mazzy. Thanks for sharing. 👍
P.s., what a wild line-up with Woody Herman opening for the Who.

Mazzy, I am envious (in a good way) that you got to see The Who in their prime. By the time I saw them, it was a show at the Oakland Coliseum. Townshend was having hearing issues, so he played behind a plexiglass partition. They played most of Tommy. There were like 20 people on stage…The good news? Well, Entwistle was still alive. In case you can’t tell, I was disappointed.

I've was always been a HUGE Who fan until Roger Daltrey became a HUGE WANKER when he poured £millions into the BREXIT campaign. I saw The Who live dozens of times through the sixties but my favorite, without doubt was at the small club "Tiles" in London, in about 64/65 where they supported "The Peddlers", who remembers them? But first on was, and bottom of the bill and uncredited on the shows poster was "The Jimmy Hendrix Experience", never heard of them, but WOW, it may have been "The Jimmy Hendrix Experience" first ever appearance in the UK. Pete Townsend came out after their set and said "How the fuck do we follow that" .... Indeed!

Kudos to Daltrey................"I'm not anti-Europe, I'm anti-Brussels, but people don't get the distinction. That's why I'm so angry about it. I want someone at least answerable to me" 👍
