Took a while to get this video done as we were both ill after the race 🤢 and for those mentioning typo's on my graphics - you're lucky I didn't pass out at the keyboard 🤒 🤣
Mark meticulously planned the training, the event, the pacing, and the strategy. Jen showed up and Leroy Jenkins'ed the whole thing. Mark is playing with fire by creating "Jen 2.0"
Making the shift from panic and hyperventilation when it gets really hard (which feels VERY scary), to realizing your body can do it and it's OK to push harder, and NOT panicking, is a really challenging step. *GO JEN GO!!!*
I would be really interested in Jen's training routine, I very much struggle with starting and keeping at fitness, but your explanation of day to day life with desk jobs, kids, dogs and just life sound really reasonable and sustainable. So I'm really interested in hearing about it.
Mark , as your crawling of the rowing machine and Jenny’s words of encouragement and motivation are ringing in your ears , where you thinking “what the hell have I created” . That said top effort to both of you . And good luck in London
Amazing stuff! All your vids are so well done and very helpful. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. Have you ever used any of these custom meal plan tools? I got one from Next Level Diet to help me add some muscle and I actually like their plans. Was just wondering if you've heard of or tried any of them yourself. Thank you!
These videos with Jen are so helpful. I started running at 28 and always felt like I arrived late to the game and sometimes would get stuck in my head about how I should have started sooner. Jen is such a role model. Subscribed because of Jen 💕
Maybe Jen's competitive drive wasn't calculated? Your tactics (and your own personal training) are definitely going to have to change based around Jen's massive improvement, well done to her! She absolutely smashed it!👊 Not so bad yourself Mark😉
Great job all around, Jen did fantastic, can’t wait to see her amazing progress. Btw I just ran my first 5K last week, while 38 min isn’t anything to write home about, I earned those miles. 2 days ago I ran 5K in 36 min, so I believe that improving ever so slightly. I want to thank you for motivating me to be above average. My goal is to get my time down to under 30 min before my first child is born sometime in March 💪🏽
Awesome stuff Khanom! Keep going - with running consistency is King - you will be surprised one day you pop an easy 28mins and you just keep getting faster. Just never take more than 1 week off in a row

@@JustinPDean I actually have been using it. It has been quite useful for me. I’ve been thinking on switching to the 10K plan sometime in the near future. I’ve ran 3 5K so far (first felt like I got hit by a freight train after I finished) but in the last two, I felt great, like I could had gone for longer….but as a newbie, I don’t want to push too hard and end up with an injury, so I limited myself to just 5K for at least a week or two.
It might sound weird but i’d love to see a video where you go through how you organise your life/business/training, from your videos it’s pretty clear that you are very organised and I think we can all benefit from that
Inspiring! At a few weeks short of 62, I got back to cycling after finding running would no longer work with my knees. Five months in, and without really trying, I've dropped 15 pounds of fat, almost doubled my VO2 max, and raised my average speed for an hour by 60%. Seeing this makes me wonder what I could achieve if I had actual goals and a plan. I do have one: In May, just two weeks after dusting off my bike, I rode an organized event of 20 miles, but cycled to and from the start point and missed a turn, resulting in a 30-mile day. I thought I would die (if I could just be lucky enough). Now that that I can easily ride 30 miles four days a week at a 60% faster pace, I'm going for the 66-mile or maybe the century ride for the same event this coming May, and I'm going to make the top 20% of my age group.
I love this. Currently going through a separation, this couples exercise and the union, companionship and banter is inspirational. *Your content has inspired me to start running and liking it in my 40's to get through my challenging times. Thankyou.
OMG, I couldn’t stop laughing when Jen said “Hey, come on, wake up!” and your kid’s filming was nice and clear. Of course, you already know you’re great.
Great video Mark. I'm in for my first Hyrox in London next month. No massive goals but having had a triple bypass 18 Months ago I'm looking forward to the challenge.
I like your channel Mark, because you are very relatable to most people, myself included. Decided to get back on the fitness horse about 6weeks ago after you inspired me - and you're a Brit, extra brownie points being a fellow Brit! Ran a 2:03 half a month ago, ran a 1:51 half last weekend after a month of working out (cardio) most days and eating right, last 3 miles were my fastest miles. Will continue to watch your channel with a goal of trying to beat my long standing 1:40 half marathon PB next year, through my newly learnt... habits! Thanks for the inspiration!
This video really helped me today. I watched it yesterday and the idea of having a baseline event to compare a future one against percolate in my head and pushed me to give it my all at a 5 mile race today rather than coasting with a friend like I've done for a while. I'm looking forward to really seeing how I've improved at the summer and winter '23 events. Thanks, it was really the push I needed!

Brilliant vid…so cool to see you at nearly 150k subs, remember watching you when you started out in the garage in those Covid swift days…this stuff works, you are going to keep growing here and be huge 👍
Hey Mark! I started training for Hyrox right after I saw your first video and my wife and I are running our first one in Chicago in Nov 5th! Just wanted to thank you for the inspiration. Greetings from Miami!
I commented on here a little while ago about beginning a journey from fatness to fitness, and although my progress towards fitness hasn't been anything like as impressive as Jen's, it's still amazing when you notice the little things that make you think "oh, I could never have done that before". Since getting a job (good thing) I've had to fit my training into my lunch hours, which has probably slowed my progress down quite a bit but has also meant that while I'm at the gym I'm usually training at a much higher intensity than what I did when I had no time constraint. It continues to be a really interesting journey. Mark, given that you used to be of a very similar size to me when I started out, did you have to adopt any strategies or exercises to manage lower-leg niggles? I have a history of both foot and knee injuries and would hate for them to be a limiting factor as I try to make my whole body work better than it has been
It's great that you've committed your lunch hours to do your training, Martin. Imagine if everyone did that! You'd more than halve the demand on the NHS. Hope you're able to eat properly too. If I may add my answer to your question for Mark, a variety of training will be beneficial, focussing on strengthening the tissues around the formerly injured areas. As a former rower I'd also recommend the Concept 2 rowing machine. Rowing exercises all of the main muscle groups so it's an excellent catch-all. However, see if you can find a real rower to teach you proper technique rather than a rookie Personal Trainer. I've seen so many people taught poor technique that it's not enjoyable to them so they quit. Also, learn how profoundly consequential diet is on tissue healing, particularly resolving inflammation. So that'll be none of Mark's beloved doughnuts and sugar, significantly limiting crappy carbs, and plenty of oily fish and green vegetables etc.
Those "oh I could never have done that before" moments are the best motivator! My first one was completing a proper push-up after having to use a kitchen counter for weeks, and boy did it feel great! :)
Inspirational and informative - and Jen's progress has been amazing - the result of lots of training and a good mindset - same as yours Mark - I enjoy your videos, thank you and well done to you both.
Jen has every right to be proud of herself, but there's more to it than that. This will undoubtedly make your relationship stronger, mentally and physically. Watching Jen motivate you on the row condsidering where she was mentally when she started her journey just shows how far she's come. Jen you rock, Mark you're in trouble now!
Just love your style of video - in particular the fact that you don’t take yourself too seriously and inject some humour! Keep it up!!! Oh and well done Jen for whipping his butt at the Hyrox!!!!
Amazing video, so well put together. Jen is a beast, that improvement is ridiculous. Can definitely see you've suffered with your recent events and recovery without professional facilities is brutal. Well done guys 👏🏽
Great video as always, but I wonder if your desire to be the fastest on 1 or 2 events, such as the ergo, is a bit like being 1st out of the water in a triathlon - a great split to note, but has less overall effect than being able to do the longer duration parts more efficiently. 5 or 10s/km faster on each run is going to give you 3-5 x the overall benefit you'd get from the erg dropping your 1k erg from 3:20 to 3:00 requires 480W instead of 350 - that's a huge difference in stress/load and 3x the difference of someone going from4:20 to 4:00
Honestly, what a great effort, credit to you guy's, that would destroy most people. Definitely above average, and cool that your son filmed it. Keep going!!!
Evening Mark and Jen. I competed in my first HYROX at Birmingham (inspired by discovering HYROX on your channel) in the 45-49 category. I’d trained hard for a couple of months and watched lots of HYROX videos and thought ‘I’d got this!!’ Well, I hadn’t!! It was brutal. Sled push, burpees and lunges killed me. Finish time of 1:22 when I thought I’d be somewhere between 1:12 and 1:18. My partner (who has now become my HYROX manager) suggested I enter the Malaga event next April which coincides with her birthday!! Along with entering the Brighton half marathon in February I’m hoping to get well below 1:20. I think more burpees and lunges are required in training!! All the above has been inspired by you and amazingly Joanne has now joined my gym which is unheard of so thank you for your brilliant channel.
Seriously impressive! Well done Jen! I always love seeing people who go from "nothing" to "something" and always a little jealous of what they get to experience in that first few weeks of training!
Love your content Mark and utter respect to Jen knocking it out of the park. I'm a former ultra runner and know the strength it takes mentally and reckon she would smash ultra running. Great stuff. 💪👍
I’m sure you get a lot of positive feed back, and rightly so. Your videos and content really are very enjoyable to watch. You, Jen, and no your son, are to be congratulated. Easily one of the better channels on RUclips!
What a superb result, and really inspiring for ‘other half’s’ out there who think this is impossible for them. The summary of improvements - speed, strength, mental focus etc are evident in this competition and Jen probably didn’t even realise how fit she had become until the event also ignited the demon competitive spirit 😆. Well done to both of you! Mark, u have some catching up to do 😆😆👌…
That is an inspiring level of achievement. I have just started to put my health together and have never been interested and still are not in competition. But I have been inspired by epic events and have secured a place for a 200 mile cycling ride next summer so that is my motivation that I am working towards. Challenges and measurable milestones are so important.
more great content. Back in 2008 I introduced my wife to running and cycling , since then she has a PB of 36 for 10k and sub 1:28 for a half marathon as well as numerous QOMs on the bike.I dont have any and cant run a sub 45 10k. I suggest you start getting used to the beast you have unleashed! I am doing Hyrox Manchester in Jan and looking for some tapering tips if you can spare a minute. Love your work
Awesome work guys, unreal! I have never done a race like that, I am a 60kg triathlete so would probably struggle big time😂. But it seems that like in Triathlon since it is an endurance event. if you spike your heart rate too much in the strength exercises than it messes up the whole race, there are limited times when we can spike the HR and keep going, it comes to a point when it just doesn’t go down anymore and you blow up. It seemed like Jenny kept her pace steady throughout the whole event, which is weird cause she didn’t have any experience but paced it perfectly. Keep it up you guys
Well done guys, excellent motivation video and especially to Jen…what have you created 😅 seriously brilliant job, I am off out to booth camp now all fired up,, still recon that 100k run did you more damage then you think. Any how looking forward to your next instalment, Rock on 🤘
This was an awesome video. Random recommendation, but actually very motivating! I have been starting to try and get back in shape and have plateaued in my runs. I'm going to change it up more and actually go to the gym, I think - perhaps participate in an event down the road to give myself a concrete goal to work towards. Thanks for the great video!
Great job! Have you considered Mark that the virus you picked up was already going to work on you during hyrox. The fact that you’re better before Jenna might suggest you were already feeling the effects during hyrox? I think Jenna is performing admirably, and has come along way. I’d bet my bottom dollar Jenna runs increasingly fast marathons and as I’ve mentioned previously, she’ll crush an ultra if and when she runs them. Be interesting to see her improvement on the vo2 and lactate threshold testing. Best wishes👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@MarkLewisfitness Fair enough! I just know from experience that when you’re coming down with a respiratory track virus or similar. The effects can be debilitating prior to any outwardly visible symptoms 😏👍🏽
Was going to say the same thing. Your body was almost certainly fighting infection already during this and the hyrox just accelerated the depleted immunity. You look ill doing it and not your usual self. Definitely will eat into your overall time at the next one all being well health and injury. The fact you have a time to beat will spur Jenna on even more. Great work. 👍
This was also my thought. I went hiking over the weekend and could only carry my toddler in his hiking pack for a fraction of the distance is usually do. Chalked it up to a buncha things but got ill the next day and am choosing to blame it on that.
Brilliant work Jen and Mark. Don't beat yourself up though, Mark. Being on the backfoot of that 100km run would have depleted you, and the injury only delayed your recovery and training. But Jen was incredible and pulled you around like a boss. Chapeau to your son for the filming too, the boy done good.🙂 Looking forward to the next one.💪👏
Nicely done! Maybe Jenn can carry the backpack from the start at your next race: you’ll run a little faster, she’ll run a little slower, for the same effort and faster time overall.
Brilliant from the both of you. In hindsight it's easy to say you should have seen the improvements Jen was making. This was your first time doing it together. You'll learn loads from this personally and as a team. Also very motivational for me. I so want to do a Hyrox now. Well done 👊 👊
Great video as always. It's awesome when your spouse or partner shares the same passion for working out as you do. Also, the dude in the foreground blowing his nose at the SkiErg station is why I workout at home.
Brilliant effort, content and humour as usual Mark. Great stuff. You should have known you were in trouble when Jen even knows what an acceptable 500m row pacing is…..she did great.

@@korganrocks3995 Same. Been there, done that!
Inspirational and informative - and Jen's progress has been amazing - the result of lots of training and a good mindset - same as yours Mark - I enjoy your videos, thank you and well done to you both.
This is such a cool video !
I've honestly had this recommended on my feed and i did not know what to expect, but i ended up watching the whole thing.
I’m genuinely a little worried what I’ve done 😂
@@MarkLewisfitness 🤣
Good job Jenn!! Absolutely smashed it, with a smile on your face no less.
You both must be so proud of Jen, she smashed it. Excited for podium at London once you've refined the strategy
Ha! Podium is tricky, there is no pro category in doubles so there are some elite athletes in the mix!
Amazing to see so many people involved in this event.
You're a beautiful storyteller. You've got a new subscriber here. Really happy for Jen and you. Staying fit is a gift to ones self.
Absolutely agree. I thought Jen would hate it and you would drag her along. She did amazing. Well done.
Very well done Jen and Mark. You guys truly are an inspiration. Keep up the good content! Waiting for you guys to visit South Africa.
Always enjoyed the humor but more importantly seeing you knit the entire family into this… great job!! All the best in London! Looking forward. 👍👍👍
'C'mon wake up' Hilarious, thanks for the entertaining video. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Great to see Jen's improvement and how much she's enjoying it. She's definitely enjoying being competitive! Looks like the two of you could go far.
Woooooork Jen! Would have loved to also see your thoughts on this and how you’ve experienced your workout journey! Super inspirational :)
So awesome to see how much this channel your channel has blown up over the last couple years 🎉
Took us by surprise 😂
Congratulations on your success Mark, you can feel proud of yourself.
Just love your style of video - in particular the fact that you don’t take yourself too seriously and inject some humour! Keep it up!!!
Oh and well done Jen for whipping his butt at the Hyrox!!!!
Lmao I slammed subscribed the second she gave you the bird.... ahh my people 🤣🤣🤣. Thankyou for showing this process.
5 or 10s/km faster on each run is going to give you 3-5 x the overall benefit you'd get from the erg
dropping your 1k erg from 3:20 to 3:00 requires 480W instead of 350 - that's a huge difference in stress/load and 3x the difference of someone going from4:20 to 4:00
Honestly, what a great effort, credit to you guy's, that would destroy most people. Definitely above average, and cool that your son filmed it. Keep going!!!
Great video! I love how Jen just crushed it. And in case no one else has mentioned it, I noticed the fancy compositing… top notch! 😆
Awesome Jen and Jen's coach!
Appreciate the effort you and Jenna put in.keep crushing.
Seriously impressive! Well done Jen! I always love seeing people who go from "nothing" to "something" and always a little jealous of what they get to experience in that first few weeks of training!
This was really interesting and you guys are hilarious 😂😂. Really appreciate the insight honesty in this event.
Awesome video, happy to see this come full circle. Very inspiring and humbling at the same time.
Well done Jen, fantastic performance! And as always, superb editing by Mark with plenty of great jokes! Hope you’re both recovering well.
Jen is a natural leader and showtime performer. She proved that you can transfer social media fit into real fitness. Good team performance.
Love your content Mark and utter respect to Jen knocking it out of the park. I'm a former ultra runner and know the strength it takes mentally and reckon she would smash ultra running. Great stuff. 💪👍
Fuck yes Jen! I was so damn impressed to see her pushing Mark on those runs and then doing more than her part on the exercises! Damn cool to watch!
Well done to both of you. Great effort!
This has been such a fun journey to watch!
Thanks. We thought it might be back in March. Great to see people enjoying it still.
I’m sure you get a lot of positive feed back, and rightly so. Your videos and content really are very enjoyable to watch. You, Jen, and no your son, are to be congratulated. Easily one of the better channels on RUclips!
Thank you. Much appreciated 🙏
Well done Mark and Jen! Hope you guys feel better soon and can’t wait to see how you guys go in London. 😊
Great work! I'm super excited to see your London video next month
Love your work
Awesome work. Psyched for my first Hyrox in Manchester to celebrate turning 40.
Brilliant video as always, love watching your stuff! Motivating to watch as a 38yo desperately trying to improve my crossfit standards!
Well done guys, excellent motivation video and especially to Jen…what have you created 😅 seriously brilliant job, I am off out to booth camp now all fired up,, still recon that 100k run did you more damage then you think. Any how looking forward to your next instalment, Rock on 🤘
Yep - didn't want to fill it with excuses - but wasn't on top form!
Well done Jen love, banging effort. Mad how much more you can push yourself in a competitive environment, someone looks like they got the buzz.
Fantastic effort and great to see the insane improvements Jen made. Great video and you both smashed it at Hyrox 👏 👏
I did wonder that - but didn't want to fill her video with my excuses 🤣
@@MarkLewisfitness Fair enough! I just know from experience that when you’re coming down with a respiratory track virus or similar. The effects can be debilitating prior to any outwardly visible symptoms 😏👍🏽
Was going to say the same thing. Your body was almost certainly fighting infection already during this and the hyrox just accelerated the depleted immunity. You look ill doing it and not your usual self.
Definitely will eat into your overall time at the next one all being well health and injury. The fact you have a time to beat will spur Jenna on even more.
Great work. 👍
@@wildernesstraining1957 makes sense - and while we do go off too hot, I did feel the effect was harsher tha it should have been !!
Chapeau to your son for the filming too, the boy done good.🙂
Looking forward to the next one.💪👏
Yep. That 100 has a lot to answer for.
Absolute mega effort from Jen. Huge props!
That's so impressive you must be so proud of how she has done so far and I am sure she is just going to get faster and stronger
Nice reality check and amazing progress by Jen.
Can't wait to see the next race.
Nicely done!
Maybe Jenn can carry the backpack from the start at your next race: you’ll run a little faster, she’ll run a little slower, for the same effort and faster time overall.
Jen crushed it and you contributed too! Well done!
Great video Mark. Loved it
Quickly becoming one of my favorite channels
Well done both of you, great video as always!
Brilliant from the both of you. In hindsight it's easy to say you should have seen the improvements Jen was making. This was your first time doing it together. You'll learn loads from this personally and as a team. Also very motivational for me. I so want to do a Hyrox now. Well done 👊 👊
Yep, very confident of an improvement next month.
Outstanding work both of you! Jen, you killed it!
Fantastic job Jen & Mark!!! Awesome gains Jen!!! Loved the Video!!
I love this - well done both of you. Amazing effort
Yep. She wasn’t happy with me slipping past 1:45 😂
Well done Jen!! Awesome progress!!!
