Great stuff bud I think the core expanstions are must haves just adds so much more to the game from the get go, tons of very in theme charts to roll instead of looking for ones that fit the games theme, I also have the solo rules sets great to have if you want to have your own games alone or to test stuff out, its also a great way to learn the game before teaching/showing off to others as well and get an idea of pacing if you want to have certian events to happen as well. Also the countless supplements and entire books people have done most are very cheap as well on places like DrivethroughRPG many also have print on demand others dont but still worth it if you have a home printer or even just keep the PDFs open or print off parts you will use the most off.
Yeah I really like the community that has sprung up aroud MORK BORG. There are some very talented people doing some awesome work with the game and really helping to bring it to life in different ways. I think I agree now after playing for a bit that the core set of expansions really are a must to help take you in different directions!

no, but that applies to most games. its a decent rpg mechanically but the setting and presentation is half the fun
The rules are pretty basic yep - but when you put them alongside the world that they are representing, it makes for a fantastic experience. At least in my opinion.
