Federer, Richard, Shapo have 45 degree takeback (open racquet face up). Federer (2017+), Shapo have the left side of letter V finish most of the time.
I am also playing single handed backhand, and I like this combinations because it is offers faster speed and better control.
1. Speed: the takeback allows a shorter swing time. Because the straight up take back's swing path will go pass the 45 degree takeback position. This helps a lot as OHBH tends to hit late and got jammed. This is the same concept to the old style loopy forehand vs the modern forehand.
2. Control: finish with left side of V means you have a firm wrist, which allows you to control the ball a bit more but sacrificing some power.
Take Federer (2017+) as an example, he's stepping into the court more to hit backhand on the rise. Most backhand he hits will finish with the left side of V to gain directional control. But when he received a deep slow backhand side ball where he is not stepping in but have more prep time, he will finish with the right side of V by relaxing the write to generate more power and spin.

Tsitsipas,Federer and richard gasquet have similar finish to musetti(right side of the letter V)......even intuitive tennis channel recommends this type of finish...by the way sampras back swing is similar to shapavalov...for me, since i play one handed backhand the most important thing is to remain sideways and weight on your front leg as u hit the shot...thanks for the vedio

Do you think the "right side of the letter V" is really due to wrist angle change or to just the rotation of the wrist going further but with the same angle? Thanks.

With one handed back hand I usually win. With 2 hands back hand I lose always. I hate using 2 hands, it blocks by body dinamics. I play padel as well, so that explains it i suppose.

you are rigth. i has used both styles. shapo has a tight wrist, that's why he finish in 90 degrees. musseti has a loose wrist, less control

I usually love your analysis, but you have things mixed up here. Primo, Musetti's backhand is... hmmm... not is forte. His preparation is actually pretty odd when you compare it to almost any other great one handed player. Not only Shapo's preparation is more efficient, it can even change to a slice more easily. Musetti dips his right shoulder too early and it accomplishes nothing really. Deuxio, the finish is very intention-related. If you want to control the shot because you are late, defending, returning... you'll finish with the left side of the letter ''V''. If you want to unwind and really go at it, you'll finish with the right side of the letter ''V''. I'll bet you one of my kidneys I can find both these 2 players finish with both sides of the letter ''V''.

What on earth are you talking about? Musetti's BH is beautiful. He tormented Djokovic in several matches with that shot, slices included. There's nothing "odd" about his preparation. It's like saying that Wawrinka's coiling is odd or any other movement that is not generic for all players.
