Parker's best chance to get a top 3 and qualify for the Olympics was to do exactly what she did. Cranny, St. Pierre, and Schweitzer were at the top of their game in their professional training schedules. Knowing they all had stronger kicks than she has, she needed to make the race very hard and she needed for one of them to have a not-great day, but they all had great days. She's coming off a heavy-loaded NCAA season. It's crazy that she achieved yet another PB.

But she didn't execute the plan. They were only running 2:58s per 1000m which is only 14:55...not going to burn the kicks out of the top contenders with that. Plus she shoudve not front run the whole time; make someone else lead for the second mile then push the final mile. She threw no surges in to put them into oxygen debt...it was just one 2:58 after another and they just drafted with little effort expended. Her last 1000 was only 2:55...the winner of the steeple ran that with barriers and the water jump to negotiate.

Great race. This was the first time I recall seeing pain in her face while running. She definitely gave it her best effort.
She isn't known for having a strong kick so I think it definitely made sense for her to keep the pace honest and try to slowly drop people who can't keep up. Unfortunately there were three talented ladies that were undroppable.

Why don't interviewers listen. #1. She had to repeat that she wasn't seeking an Olympic standard. #2> Why ask the question, "Are you proud of your effort" when she clearly stated that less than 1 minute into the video? A patient young lady. Congrats to Parker. She trains smart and hopefully has many great races ahead in her career.

I am a Florida Gator and lived in FL for over 13 years. But I am from AZ. Back in 1995, I met Billys Mills - the surprise winner of the 1964 Olympic 10k. Mills had burned out at Kansas in his senior year and surprised the running community by qualifying in 1964. Some runners peak later in their mid to late 20s. Front-running in college doesn't always translate to international victories among the elite. Steve Prefontaine had the same problem in the 1972 Olympics. He burned out at the very end after front-running at times. His friend was Frank Shorter, also a Gator Alumnus and Olympian. Parker is very young and has potential and experience now to aim for the 2028 Olympics. Best wishes from a UF Alumnus. Go Gators!

But I wonder why someone would be racist in track and field which is multi-cultural with many countries represented. It's not a "white's only" country club event of the 1950s.

She could have run 1440 if someone else helped even a little bit with the pace. Like at least two or three of the laps. Our pros are in for a rude awakening at the Olympics if they have to sit on a college girl

@@xcbaby123 I still don’t think they’re metal chances are high, but they didn’t have to sit on her, it just made it the easiest race for them. All three of them are going to double back in the 1500 or 10,000 so why do any more than you have to? They put 11 seconds on her and the last 800. Obviously it isn’t easy to lead for 4200, but she was never going to kick with those three women.

Definitely her most mature interview yet- honestly everything happens for a reason and (just my opinion) I think she needed to be a bit humbled by the pros. Really pulling for her in the 10k but she still has a lot to learn with racing and tactics when going up against pros and running in the packs. When in packs she seems to really struggle with trying not to trip.

She ran such a great race, it was so much fun to watch! Even if she didn't make the team, she ran her own race and did it perfectly! It was a personal best and you sure can't do any better than that!👏I think she probably will get to compete at the Olympics, assuming Elle St. Pierre makes the 1500 team, because the 5k final is the evening before the 1500 heats. At the Olympic level, that double would be very tough, and I think St. Pierre will likely concentrate on the 1500.
