What I love about this game is that it answers the question of what happens when you accept the Dragon Lord's offer of "Half the World" in the first Dragon Quest game. The Dragonlord doesn't kill you. Instead, you get a small patch of land literally named "Half of the World", and he takes the rest.
Look how big and powerful that dragon is, and how it tanks blasts from cannons. Now consider that in the canon timeline, Alef took that thing on with just a few melee strikes and the occasional Midheal.
I find this ending a little different in terms of happiness but prefer it cuz in this outcome this proves fate isn’t always set in stone and u shouldn’t always be forced into a life u don’t want
“Never had a chance to make a decision for himself” is pretty apt, cause every yes no choice in Dq1 can be summed up by “But thou must”. Ironically if the hero rejected the Dragonlord’s offer, he would have made a choice for himself by rejecting lordship over Alefgard.
I actually liked 2 more, and I initially had low hopes when buying it, however it proved me wrong, I actually was very invested in it, I'm still not the most fond of 1 however, no offense.
