Unlike many performers, Shalamar sounds like their record. As you could see, that is a real band. No lip syncing here. I could tell because their singing pattern is different from the album.Shalamar can sing! Howard knows he can blow!
This sounds even better live; how many bands can make that claim? Damn, the guitar, the bass, the drums, Jody's voice, the riff, all taken up a notch when live, magical times:)
I can remember seeing them live. Stays with me forever. The 80s was the best time for R&B. The world was a different place then. Feel so honoured to have experienced these unforgettable memories.
Love Shalamar. Howard has a GREAT voice, and listen how he played with the original melody, improvising with his vocal, the sign of a great singer who REALLY understands MUSIC. and jeffrey did the moonwalk first, yes, I remember........
How did I miss this great tune when it was released?? Great musicians, great vocalists, great dancing, great melody, great lyrics - and great camera work!
People always say Michael Jackson took from Jeffrey Daniels, But people forget they fed off each other. Jeffrey taught Michael some of the glide footwork but Jeffrey took some hip movements that were Michaels signature steps when performing. It's great to see the influences.
Glad you picked that up ShoNuff right and they was friends too people just lack research and common sense and wanna say *STOLE* *COPIED* cause it's the biggest word they can find to throw stone's at Mike make him look bad
I can never get enough of that freeze at 1:17. Jody and Jeffrey complimented each other really well when they were in Shalamar together. Also, that chemistry was one of the many reasons why they were THE couple to watch on Soul Train for many years at one point. Jermaine Stewart on the background vocals at 1:13
just heard my Mom listening to this song while she was jogging. I'm so downloading it now. I wish I was at that concert, it seems like there was much less to worry about back then, everyone is having such a good time. Old school music is so much better than today.
Jermaine Stewart is in the background singing in back of Shalamar... Damn, I loved them so much... Thank God they are all still performing (even if it's not together).
yes guys . it is Jermaine in the background . He was one of our friends from the Soul Train set .He and Jody were very close . He influenced my lead vocals on " Stay Close To Love " and " Lovely Lady " on Shalamar's Disco Gardens album .
OM GEEEEEE.....nobody could eff with Shalamar, damn I miss this group, you can see in this performance that Jody wasnt effin feeling Howard, LOL but I still love this group as a whole and of course the solo Ms. Jody Watley. Notice singing background was Jody's good friend Jermaine Stewart(RIP) good stuff.
I really miss Shalamar and their great music. Today there is nothing but crap out there. Hopefully Rap is winding down and we can get back to real music.
Amoooo.... Pode passar quantos anos forem necessários, jamais deixarei de amar essa música e época. Pena não ter vivido na década de 70 para curtir muito esses sons...
Of course you're right! When Jermanine's album first came out, I remember there were several references to Shalamar while doing television appearances and magazine articles, etc. This is actually the first footage I've ever seen with Jermaine singing with them...Wow, I miss those days!
there's even congas and other percussions(cow bells...) : complete ! This one is one 100% real and authentic performance ! Sure the guys who were there (Tops Of The Pops) in 1982/83 still remember that magical moment !
@chucrb Shalamar backing vocalist was Jermaine Stewart who himself went on to his own hit solo career with selections like The Word Is Out, Say It Again and We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off
This was Shalamar at their peak! Sounding fabulous live. And with Jermaine Stewart in the background vocals. And they can say whatever they want, but without Jody Watley Shalamar is not Shalamar.
Having lived through this era (80's), this video and performance gives me chills at how perfect a group Shalamar was. Leon Sylvers produced his ass for Shalamar, Dynasty and his family group , The Sylvers. I rank Shalamar's amazing effect up there with Beyonce, Selena and the great Motown acts of the 60's.
OMG, Jeffrey Daniel of SHALAMAR fame is 56 years old today. Happy Birthday Jeffrey! You showed the world and Michael Jackson how to "moonwalk/backslide". I hope you have a wonderful celebration and thanks for the memories.
Saudades !
Back when groups could dance and still pull off their vocals!! Howard was and is the man!!
Unlike many performers, Shalamar sounds like their record. As you could see, that is a real band. No lip syncing here. I could tell because their singing pattern is different from the album.Shalamar can sing! Howard knows he can blow!
Howard's voice, Jody's look, and Jeffrey's dancing: What a wonderful combination
this is an unbelievable live performance! proper fuckin band
My popstar Jody Watler. I love!🥰
This sounds even better live; how many bands can make that claim? Damn, the guitar, the bass, the drums, Jody's voice, the riff, all taken up a notch when live, magical times:)

"Blind Vision" by Blancmange sounds even better live.
I can remember seeing them live. Stays with me forever. The 80s was the best time for R&B. The world was a different place then. Feel so honoured to have experienced these unforgettable memories.
We used this song as our wedding party reception entrance. It was real fun. A great choice.
Ok,no one cares.
@@kingforty881 Harsh

Howard Hewett is a vocal powerhouse. He will always be one of my favorite singers.
jermaine stewarts singing them background vocals really sets of this classic jam
The only version of Shalamar i acknowledge
Love Shalamar. Howard has a GREAT voice, and listen how he played with the original melody, improvising with his vocal, the sign of a great singer who REALLY understands MUSIC. and jeffrey did the moonwalk first, yes, I remember........

So that is Jermaine I'm not tripping.

I really miss Shalamar and their great music. Today there is nothing but crap out there. Hopefully Rap is winding down and we can get back to real music.
Fantastic performance from the great Shalimar.......
Jody looks so different with shorter hair, but I ❤ it! Good memories!! 💃💃💃
I was always amazed as to how SOLAR Records and especially Shalamar were so well received and more over in the UK.
This is awesome!
I saw them 3 times in the early 80s,
part of the S.O.L.A.R. tour
Amoooo.... Pode passar quantos anos forem necessários, jamais deixarei de amar essa música e época. Pena não ter vivido na década de 70 para curtir muito esses sons...
This is amazing...if you want to see Shalamar at its peak, this is it. Jodi Watley and Howard Hewitt were the real deal.
Classic! great song!
Pure MAGIC!
Howard is so fine right there! Great post!
Of course you're right! When Jermanine's album first came out, I remember there were several references to Shalamar while doing television appearances and magazine articles, etc. This is actually the first footage I've ever seen with Jermaine singing with them...Wow, I miss those days!
Al of Shalamar's music is hot!
nothing compares to oldschool music....
1:26 she's so grooved into the beat
She sho is groovin!
there's even congas and other percussions(cow bells...) : complete ! This one is one 100% real and authentic performance ! Sure the guys who were there (Tops Of The Pops) in 1982/83 still remember that magical moment !

Eu sempre digo: o que seria da música norte americana, sem a presença do povo de pele escura?
Nada.
シャラマーですね…この曲懐かしくよく聴いてた そしてジョディ・ワトリーの透き通った歌声が印象的ですね…
This was Shalamar at their peak! Sounding fabulous live. And with Jermaine Stewart in the background vocals. And they can say whatever they want, but without Jody Watley Shalamar is not Shalamar.
