the Joe Gibbs legend almost ended before it even began - after a disastrous 0-5 start, people were calling him to be fired, but thank God we had an owner back then who was patient and awesome and believed in his people, people like Bobby Beathard who hired Joe Gibbs. Jack Kent Cooke was a great owner, I wish the team was still owned by him and his family. I had the pleasure to meet Jack Kent Cooke once and as a Redskins fan, it was one of the greatest moments of my life!
A lot of hitting out there - typical 1981 NFL. Nasty tackle on Billy Sims (20) where his helmet got driven into the turf at 7:00. He got up shaking the cobwebs out.
From 1980 through 1984 the NFL was dominated by 3 teams. The Redskins, 49ers, and Raiders. The Raiders won it all in 80 & 83. The 49ers won it all in 81 and 84. The Redskins won it all in 82. The Redskins were better than the 49ers during this time and they could have easily won it all in 82 & 83. However, they had the misfortune of playing the Raiders in 83. The Raiders could have won it all in 80, 82, & 83 but boredom slipped them up in 82 when they gave away a playoff game to the Jets. The same thing happened again to the Raiders in 85 when they got caught coasting in playoff game vs NE & blew a 4th quarter lead and lost the game. The Raiders were the only team that could of challenged the Bears in 85.
The Raiders didn't blow a fourth quarter lead against the Patriots in 1985. They were up by three at the half, and after New England tied it with a field goal in the third quarter, the Raiders fumbled the kickoff and the Patriots recovered in the end zone. Marc Wilson was 11 for 27 with three interceptions in that game. The year before, he faced the Bears and was 7 for 19 with two picks. There is no way they were challenging the Bears in 1985 with him at quarterback.
The dreaded RFK stadium was the Lions death nail!
Yes it was and it sucked
Joe Gibbs became not only a winning Super Bowl head coach, but also a big winner in NASCAR.
Thanks for these recent Redskin game of the week uploads. My childhood fandom all over again.
Wrong , it's a Lions game.
@@mikeaustin1323 no no. Redskins game
The Lions HATED RFK Stadium

00:46 Theismann the bearded one lol...
To this day Detroit has only won one game in Washington. I should know I bet on the Redskins
Ha...I'll do you one better. The modern-day Lions have only won one playoff game. I was there and bet heavy on Dallas.
@@traderduke2 you got me there
Lol … Yep. It always seems to work out that way.
Joe Washington was tough in this game.
Lions NEVER EVER won at RFK. It would be near 30 years later that the Lions would FINALLY win in Washington or more exactly in Maryland.
