Price fixing has never worked, it just leads to no supply
Its how FDR ended the Great Depression. Farmers couldn't farm because they couldn't get a high enough price to recoup their seed costs let alone make a living. So FDR fixed that by fixing prices. Under republican policies, the Great Depression that Hoover started would never have ended.

We still produce more oil than anyone else in the world. Oil companies have their stock holders to think about like every other company. That is why they increased oil production gradually in 2021 and 2022, to keep prices up and recover from the COVID losses. It is also a world energy market. US oil companies sell some oil elsewhere, and may still buy from other countries depending on price deals and the refineries needed. Not so simple as the Republican sound bites make it seem, is it?
If biden doesn't close down are pipeline and give putin his than there's no war in Ukraine and our gas prices remain low like they were under trump.

The supply chain backups then followed. That is where the primary source of inflation came from. Afterwards, the oil companies restricted their production increases to get back the shareholder profits they lost in the previous year. That cost, of course, adds to the cost of everything - not to discount the recently reveled padding of the inflation cost by many producers who had record profits during this time. Easy for them to do, just blame Biden, right?

Then when economic activity resumed, oil companies admitted that they needed to recover shareholder profits lost during COVID. So they increased production gradually. Those costs do get filtered through as added costs for products, but is not the whole story. Food producers admitted they took advantage of inflation by padding their increases above what they needed to do. That is how they were able to claim record profits the last two years. Of course, it was easy for the oil companies and food producers to just let everyone claim that Biden is somehow responsible, right?

Price gouging is already illegal in 42 states. This is nothing more than distraction from the real reasons for run away inflation and that is Democrat policies such as over spending, redistribution of taxpayers’ money and reducing domestic oil. High oil prices increase the cost of everything.

The reason prices are high are not because of price gouging it is because fuel prices have skyrocketed and everything we purchase gets shipped at sometime. Plus add ridiculous government regulations that have to get passed onto consumers and prices rise. Democrats need to stop “helping”, because they do more harm than good!

What are the profit margins? Unless these companies profits are increasing, then I would not call what they are doing price gouging. Price ceilings never work. All they cause are shortages. You want to make food prices affordable, find the costs and bring those down.
This is a simple solution with probably disastrous consequences. I hope this is all talk. I do not want to see grocery stores being unable to stock like during the pandemic.

One of my sister's son in laws is and has been in the grocery business for about 30 years. He tells us that the margin in the business is very thin and they rely on volume and market share to generate gross margin. That means there is no price gouging at that level. Of course democrats think the solution to EVERY problem is more government control like the good socialists/communist that they are.
