Hey guys. Didn't really have it in me to squeeze an entire video out of my reaction to the remaster so Imma just leave it in a RUclips comment down here instead: The remaster itself was both extremely cool and extremely disappointing at the same time. I'd heard a lot about how the AI fuzziness wasn't quite as bad when seeing it in a theater but there were definitely tons of noticeable mistakes that could have been patched up before release. However, in my opinion, the shots that weren't ruined by the AI upscale (basically all of the closeups and a few other moments) looked absolutely amazing. I was able to notice details that I'd never noticed before and I've seen this movie like 50 times lol. I think the real best part of the whole thing though was just getting to see it in a crowded theater with a bunch of other Daft Punk fans from all generations who were laughing along with the movie's funny moments and being sad during the sad ones. Plus, they played a bunch of their older music videos (along with the Infinity Repeating) one and the remaster quality on those was amazing, so there was an added benefit. I still don't know a whole lot about 4k remasters in general but I did do a bit more research on Interstella's remaster specifically while I was editing this video (I recorded the VO a week before seeing it in theaters and the VO was written well in advance) and I don't think a proper non-AI remaster would have been as easy to make as a lot of fans seem to think it is. The original master file is apparently just gone due to Toei mismanagement back in the day and the file the team had to work with was edited using different encoding standards than the master (because Japan and France have different encoding formats in general). I think it'd have been nice to have a dedicated person to look over the remaster and potentially fix a lot of the fuzziness but I have no clue how feasible that would have been or if it's even possible given the formatting of the source file, so I totally get why it had to be AI in the end. I've also seen some people being like "why couldn't they have just used the blu-ray version in theaters" or "why couldn't they have made something similar to the fanmade 2k remaster." I was certainly one of those people when it was first discovered to be an AI remaster. The thing is though, Interstella uses a ton of trippy filters to make the movie feel more dreamlike (which is partially the reason the AI struggles with the faraway shots more) and I don't think a lot of fans realize how much those filters affect viewings on larger screens. I actually really like the 2k remaster (kinda wish I'd known about it while editing lol) but I'd probably be just as disappointed if it they played that in the theater because of those filters. When you take that into account, it kind of takes the situation away from "they're AI-ing it because they don't care" to a more "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. A lot of this is kinda rambly but there's a lot of nuances in this situation that I felt I should bring up. Anyway, thanks for all the support on this video. I've been wanting to make this one for a long time and it feels a bit weird now that it's done lol. New video in a couple months hopefully (aiming for March but idk). Catch y'all later! -(Big) Grump
This video was recommended to me. I don't normally comment on videos, and I've not seen any of your other stuff yet but this was well put together, my kids love this anime/music video thing. I was in my early teens when I discovered daft punk and interstella 5555 and it opened my eyes to what could be done with creative expression, and is an experience like no other. I hope the rest of your stuff is this well put together and I'll add it to my binge listen to while at work. 😊
I genuinely didn't even know there was an entire film featuring these characters! I thought maybe the animation was made or found just for the music video!!!
algorithm did me goood, definitely gonna watch the movie now! I instantly thought of watching it with LosslessScaling to frame generate it to 60fps. Gonna be visual eye candy
@ it was pretty good for me i would say, although you should watch it with a better bitrate so the overall image is cleaner. I tried it on an archived version at 96fps tho. Give it a shot! LosslessScaling overall is a pretty nice tool. Im watching One Piece at 90 frames with it and its just worth it

algorithm did me a kindness today. I've seen a few other videos about this topic before, but your passion for it shines through and keeps it fresh.

Awesome Video! Keep up the good work, the algorithm found me, it will find others :)
Great to see some daft Punk appreciation
Props to the Mighty Algorithm, I'm glad it sent me here. I learnt a lot about one of my favorite pieces of media.

Always wondered what this'd look like at a higher framerate but after the 4k remaster I'm too nervous to try lol
