    Watching you work is inspiring. Did you ever use powdered graphite or have you always preferred charcoal?

    I just love it! 2 questions, sometimes I see you do an acrylic wash, sometimes charcoal powder. How do you make the decision? Also, are you concerned about breathing in charcoal dust? Because while you use the vine charcoal even I see bits floating..

      Whether I use an acrylic wash or not just depends on the look I want for the piece. For black and white I just do charcoal. If I want the tonal color then I'll use the acrylic wash. I do occasionally where a mask and probably should more often. However, on my more recent pieces I've adjusted my process to where I don't lay down as heavy a layer of charcoal powder and that's when most of the particles float off the canvas. So it's not as big a concern as it was previously. Thanks!
