I live in the City. But have been to Syracuse, Albany, Rochester and Buffalo. Syracuse and Albany seemed fine. But Buffalo was a dump and Rochester seemed like an abandoned city. It's sad, cross the border into Canada, and it's beautiful.

There ain't nothing up here anymore. Everyone drives to see either the Adirondack, Buffalo/finger lakes, nyc, or Niagara. There used to be resorts as far as the eye could see. Mineral water springs. Now there's only a few floundering cheesy motels left and all that's up here is just a bunch of people waiting for something interesting to happen. Ever since the 1960s when the cruise ship industry became more popular we have been suffering, forgotten. Empty husks of bottling plants and dilapidated resorts are the only reminder left of what this place once looked like. What it is supposed to look like.

As someone who lives in a small farming town 20 minutes from Broadway in saratoga...yeah...school up here talks about how important the "battle of saratoga" was in the revolution yet nobody in other states learned about it
And up in the Lake Champlain area it was all about how important Fort Ticonderoga was. Saratoga would get mentioned, but a ton of emphasis was put on how the Green Mountain Boys took Fort Ticonderoga from the British by surprise; also the fort’s importance in the Seven Years War, and how it was originally French and called Carillon… We also got a lot about Forts St. Frederic and Crown Point, which were located a little ways north.
My first year in college was at Mohawk Valley C.C. in Utica. I hustled "Pong" in the student union for money, and took bowling as my P.E. elective. I guess I am your typical upstate New Yorker.
