I sold my wa73 and later bought a BAE 1073 and noticed a difference in detail . For the money the wa73 isn’t far off and I actually enjoyed it. Might buy it again honestly
Thanks for the demo Barry. Sounds good! I use the Drawmer 1974 and 1976 saturator together for some projects. The independent width on each band on the 1976 is fantastic. I also run the SPL Vitalizer Mk2 (Hardware) which takes a lot of getting used to but it sounds amazing. The stereo width is just beautiful.
That Tele cutting board looks awesome! I jumped onto Etsy to buy but it looks like you don't ship to Australia, which is a pity. Oh well - good luck with the venture. Oh, and thanks for the run down on the WA-73 EQ capability. I am waiting for mine to arrive since I ordered it a couple of days ago from a local reseller.
Nice job on this video. I like seeing knobs being turned in real time and more importantly actually being able to hear the difference vs one's ears thinking they do hear it...even with the YT compression. I have the same WA-73EQ and happy with it and as you say, good bang for the buck. Cool to see how others use and apply hardware/software in their studios. I don't typically use the EQ when tracking with the 73EQ. There are so many good EQ options for mixing I haven't really used the 73's EQ section there as I like the Pultec Tube better, both UA plugin and Warm Audio EQP-WA hardware version. Try this, take the output of the 73EQ and feed it through the Pultec with the EQ off and see if just running thru the tube on the Pultec adds any positive color. I swear I can hear it but it may be a placebo affect :)
What happened when you turned the hipass filter off? it seems it turned on...I'm confused, it was supposed to recover the low end, not cut it...i'm I right?
@@BarryJohns Yes I got this, but, what I meant was, when you switched the hipass filter to "off" position, it sounded like it was turned "on" in a very agressive way, like the switch conection was inverted. When U put it in the OFF position, the bass should be kicking all the way in, and that's not what happened. It actually did the opposite. That's what I meant
Have you tried the Behringer clones of the Neve gear? I've heard a few people say things like the knobs/rings are back to front and pop off. Also higher noise floor.
is it normal I gpt a little hissy buzzing sound going into my wa73 eq inserts from my interface outs with balanced 1/4 trs? Is there a way to get around this?
So I keep seeing Nuendo on the screen behind you? I remember you saying you’re switching back to Pro Tools now that Avid seems to have realized the error of their ways?
@@BarryJohns Cool. I’m a Digital Performer guy, but it’s always good to be conversant in another DAW. I also have Logic, Cubase and Pro Tools and there was a lot I liked about Cubase, but I thought “Well, if Barry’s gonna go back to the dark side (haha!) maybe I’ll adopt Pro Tools as my backup?” One of the factors is I recently bought a used Avid S3 on eBay. I’m really into the EUCON protocol since having an Artist Mix + Control setup. Obviously, the integration between Pro Tools and EUCON surfaces like the S3 is very complete and deep. Really love the S3. Built like a tank and used prices have dropped like a rock since they announced end of support 12/31/2026. I paid $2k for a mint used unit and I’m seeing prices go even lower.
@@BarryJohns I forgot to mention: the only downside is even though I have a perpetual license, I’m not crazy about getting dinged for $199 once-a-year like clockwork by Avid. Sure. I guess I could let support lapse, but uneasy now about whether they might pull the subscription only thing sometime in the future should they feel that the climate has changed and they can pull it off. Waves sure as hell backed away in a hurry when they tried it, but I suspect Waves *still* wants to go there someday and is biding their time. Avid might be doing the same thing.
I've got RME UFX II and the heritage 73 elite preamp, the instrument inputs of the rme have 8db gain... the output of the preamp should be connected there? or in the back inputs with 0db gain? thankyou very much for your helpful content! sorry if my english is bad.

Man warm audio continues to impress me.. but so do you because you keep it real.
Great video, as per usual! I have a Wa273-eq and a Wa412 that I absolutely love. Thanks Barry.

These are really great preamps. Compared them to some BAE preamps I had and couldn't really tell the difference.
Barry I have 2 273,s. Stereo and Tegeler cream, which I just got, love them both ,Love your channel
Love your channel, those cutting boards do look cool!
HERITAGE AUDIO EQ 73 KICKED THIS THINGS ASS !

I have a 273 and I love it. Great sounding unit.
Same here
That stuff you and your wife made is pretty cool.

Nice video Barry!
on an different note, nor related to this, I’m getting the cutting board today 😂😂😂
The only best way to know how good a preamp is to use it on vocals not instruments
The video was specifically about the EQ part of the unit, I didn’t do anything with the preamp. I talked about this in the video
Great video
Wish it weren't so, as the Warm stuff sounds awesome for the price, but the quality control and durability on their stuff has been very poor for me.
Can you route around the edges to help with spillage?
What happened when you turned the hipass filter off? it seems it turned on...I'm confused, it was supposed to recover the low end, not cut it...i'm I right?
Adding a hi pass to a compressor will retain the low end and even emphasize it, on a EQ, it removes the frequencies below it.

Not yet!
Wow you’re in Orlando? So am Im trying to decide wa73 or ha73 and do I need the eq
HA74 and when used as a hardware insert, the EQ is great! I also have a video of the HA73.
are your cutting boards made in the USA?
My wife and I make them at home. Www.artisanwoodshed.com

The video was filmed before that video. Still considering it.

Connect the output of the HA73 to an input on the rear of the RME and not via a front instrument input.
